Hey, guys @balou21 and @Su08! Congrats on acceptance to UC.
I'm currently an undergrad here at UC, and I grew up in Cincinnati. I can say that there are a lot of good apartments around the area, but some are definitely a further walk than others. I wouldn't recommend the Forum unless you have a car, or plan to heavily use the shuttle and Nightride systems. There are many great places on Jefferson and Bishop streets that are walking distance to either the main campus or the medical campus. Riddle Road or anything near Straight Street is also a good pick, as it's near the main campus. Clifton Ave can get a bit loud, as it is near the Greek houses.
There are several UC housing facebook groups too, and I've already seen people post their openings there for next year. You may want to try to see if there is a grad school cohort that you can connect with though. Many grad students I know also like to have their own apartments and then socialize on their own time, so that may be a consideration.
    Good luck with everything!

I can try to restore a previous version, but recent data will be lost. I don't know why people keep deleting large chunks of relevant data, like military branch and BAA ???

One thing my adviser did mention to me was that last year's NDSEG deadline was apparently a lot later than this year's, which could affect the update timeline........

Sorry to double post, but I wanted to mention I received a merit scholarship from BU yesterday (full tuition!). To everyone else feeling the impostor syndrome, remember that adcoms and financial aid committees can think more highly of you than you do.

I'm just making a list at this point. I want SO MANY things! But I'll most likely be moving out of state, and I figure it'll be easier to make most purchases after I move instead of having more to pack.

I'd definitely opt for something less fragile and proprietary than a Mac. Lenovo's ThinkPad laptops are absolute beasts, super durable and powerful without being crazy expensive.

@redhartI totally understand. I moved from an undergrad school that was a bit better than average, to a school, which although not internationally known, is one of the best in the country in my area!
Last semester was a total trainwreck, and both semesters I've had to drop to 2 classes to keep up (even though this semester, I didn't have to be a TA, I need to get better grades, and on top of having to move again and a RIDICULOUS amount of work on a fellowship, I needed to be realistic.) I've been creative with trying to socialize a bit, and fortunately, my partner was able to move to another city in the same state, but it's been isolating with not as many chances to meet, and that's definitely taking a toll.
Speaking to the few classmates I know though, I do definitely feel like I'm falling behind, but looking at it again, sometimes I realize that quite a lot of it is just busy work, or people trying to boost their own egos, or people that just have more mental stamina than me. But that doesn't mean their ability is better. (Those are the good days though tbh... most of the time is full of self doubt.)
I am looking forward to the summer though, when I'm more integrated into research, and I don't have to worry about classes at the same time. I feel like you may be in a similar situation.

@Phoenix88 I'm glad that you'll soon be moving into a stage where you can focus more on your research over the classes. Yeah, it sounds like we definitely have some of the same feelings! No fun. It's so hard worrying that you might behind where your classmates are or where your professors expect you to be. But hey, I guess we're all winging it at some point...

    Hey guys,
As I'm sure a lot of you are in similar positions, I thought this would be helpful! I recently was admitted into a truly great program, and the excitement has slowly turned into crippling anxiety. Lots of "They're going to figure out I'm not as smart as they think I am" "Everyone else is so much better, I will fail"...etc. I know this is so common with all people and especially in academia! Anyone relating to that right now? Because I am feeling it hard?

I'm glad that I was able to help you out!
I'm surprised that POIs at other schools are reaching out to you though! Maybe it's a field-dependent thing. Engineering professors definitely pride themselves in being too busy for their own good. But yeah, it's good that you see the value in networking at the recruitment event, it should really help you out as long as you put the energy in. Emailing the profs should double up on the efficiency as well.
Best of luck, and feel free to reach out via PM if you need more help!

YYYEEEESSSSS!!!!!!!!!! I was 4/17 and selected!!!!  Thanks to everyone in the chat it was very entertaining and kept me from doing anything else besides hitting refresh the past few days.  To those who didn't get it best of luck in the future.  There were obviously many qualified people on the google doc who had higher GRE and GPAs that did not get it.  My advice is keep working hard and it will eventually work out.  I was rejected my first round of grad school and got into a master's by a fluke at the last second, two years later I got into the grad school I was rejected from.  I applied to multiple fellowships along the way and never got any until now.  Ahhhhh   I am super excited, I've been TAing for the last 4 years (2 in masters and 2 in PhD) so this was a huge relief especially since my adviser emailed me yesterday saying that he didn't have the money and I would have to TA another year.
