A bunch of people have given up their acceptances to my PI and yet I still haven't been reached out to. I know I'm a terrible interviewer but its incredibly sad that I'm at the bottom of the list. I can't believe I got a ton of interviews only to not get accepted anywhere. I'm feeling for everyone in the same boat right now.

Have you been able to get constructive feedback about how to improve your interviewing skills? That is a very tangible thing you could work on if you need to reapply. I know feedback from faculty has been invaluable for me during the application process.

It’s a new week. Hoping everyone gets great news this week! Still waiting to hear from one last school!

Honestly, the worst part about the weekend nowadays is knowing you won’t hear from a school for two whole days. This process needs to be over!!

Guys I'm freaking outttttt. Not getting in this cycle (my second time applying) was never an option. My chances lie in only one school now, and I'm so nervous funding won't be available for me... I don't know what to do

Follow @PsychChatter on Twitter. They have a monthly psych jobs thread that lists opportunities -

It's very common, but if you want more concrete data I would look up the ratio of offers extended to offers accepted in each program (I first saw that data in the Insider's Guide, not sure if it's available elsewhere). If you see that the program extended 18 offers last year and 6 were accepted, there's a pretty good chance you'll be pulled from the waitlist. if a program extends 6 offers and 6 were accepted, less so.

This doesn’t help with the feelings about reapplying, but I have something that helps me to be nice to myself rather than self critical. For most schools, getting an interview means you’re qualified and a good applicant. It’s just about fit and personality from that point.  Five interviews means you’re hecka desirable as an applicant! Hope this helps a little

Anyone have any advice for not freaking out post-interviews? I'm not a very good interviewer. I recieved 5 interviews this cycle and I honestly don't think I'm going to be first choice for any of these programs  I just really don't want to have to go through this whole process again next year.

I've been worried about the exact same thing. I'm awful at interviews and terrified of getting rejected from everywhere I interviewed at. I wish I had some actual advice for you but just know you're not alone! Even people who are great at interviews get rejected all the time, which just goes to show that a lot of these decisions are completely out of our control and have nothing to with our intelligence and worth

This was my post! I received notification of acceptance from a staff member and a signed letter from the grad director of psych. I did not hear directly from the DCT nor my POI (yet). I also got a notification that my application status has been updated. I hope this helps! When I have formally accepted the offer, I will mention my POI's initials.

I'm not sure what's worse, seeing all of these rejections, or starting to see acceptances from the place you interviewed at.

Ugh I can't wait until this season is over... it's such a soul-sucking process. I had one interview but it doesn't look like I'll get anymore at this point, and this is already my second time applying. Is it just me or is this year crazy competitive even compared to other application years? Maybe it's a combination of COVID creating less funding and the GRE requirement being waived for many programs, I'm not sure...

I wholeheartedly recommended sending thank you notes. I've heard that it does matter to some people and I can assure you it would not be perceived as bothering them.
How long has it been since your interview?

I'm pretty sure that's the standard message programs send when they extend an invite. Stuff about feel free to ask questions, etc. I almost never do unless it's about a specific issue that the secretary can answer, usually because I can ask what I need to on interview day or some of my questions will be answered during the day's presentations. I'm not sure how other people do it, but I avoid asking the PI interview-related questions beforehand unless I've been invited to an informal interview. They're not immediately important and I don't want to waste their time outside of interview day.
If someone typically does do this though, I hope they answer you. Also, stuff about the program, clinical training, etc. I consider to be interview day questions.
Edit: let me edit to add that I doubt your PI is going to think you're uninterested just because you don't ask a question before interview day. You might be over thinking it
