lechatgris got a reaction from Phoenix88 in Boulder, CO
I finished my M.A. at Boulder last May and, to fill the time while I wait for all those Ph.D acceptance letters to come pouring in (any day now, right?!), I thought I'd pass on some highly relevant Boulder/Denver info.

lechatgris got a reaction from ladybug3 in Things not to say to someone who has just been rejected by their dream school
After last year's all-around rejections, I think the worst were the myriad variations of:
"So, what are you going to do?" and "Oh, well you have a 'plan B,' right?"
"You didn't get in anywhere? Why?"
As well as anything religious/ shamelessly repeated from a motivational poster.
I fully agree with the whole "not meant to be" thing--even the thoughtless passive voice propels you into the vague abyss of misery.

lechatgris got a reaction from psycholinguist in What are you reading?
I'm reading GradCafe, rather than the 80+ first year comp. papers I ought to be perusing.

Sorry for the freak-outs. Now it'll be like getting rejected twice, which I believe the kids these days would call "pwned."

All quiet on the western front. As my dear, departed grandmother used to say, "Well, shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit."

jprufrock, dude just break up with your SO and find a new one in grad school. It's not worth the trouble or drama. You'll meet someone else in grad school, and it'll all be okay.

I love your personal attacks. If I consider you ignorant and you consider me ignorant, at least I will not do not launch personal attacks. But whatever it doesn't matter, to each is own. If you want to argue against me that is fine, but at least use argument or provide examples. Regardless, as I have said I respect the people and the field just as much as any other. But there are reasons why most people, even many of those highly educated put science and engineering above humanities. I don't know if it's right or wrong, but that is just the way it is. They are not equal as of now and they never have been, either one way or the other.

j/k, Rutgers, I'm a very serious person.

shoulda been a cowboy . . .
I would go all the way back to high school and take a geometry class so that my GRE quant. score would be better than a 5th grader's.

lechatgris got a reaction from psycholinguist in Picked up any new hobbies while waiting?
I just completed a 3-hour desk cleaning mission! I'm pretty sure I haven't seen the surface of my desk since 2007. Strangely (sadly?) exhilarating.

lechatgris got a reaction from Nessie in The 'addict' thread
My problems are escalating. The mailman just parked his little truck outside my house, then crossed the street and started walking the other direction. Presumably, he will make a loop, ending with my house. I find this very distressing and am wondering about the legal ramifications of tackling said mailman and rummaging through his rucksack to make sure there aren't any grad school letters for me. Three more months . . .
