  1. I agree! Or, OP, were you looking for tough love? Want us to say "suck it up! Do the work!" ? Because we can do that, if it will help
  2. Probably because nobody really knows. I know some posters have said that they were rejected from PhD programs and recommended for Master's, but they have always been in the same field. I think it all depends on the communication between the departments. If the psychology department doesn't have a lot of overlap with the Women's Studies program, then they are unlikely to discuss applicants. It also depends on how "caring" the Psych department is. After all, you applied to THEIR program, and all they are really obligated to do is accept or deny you, not necessarily give you guidance as to your fit elsewhere in the university. Also, think of the Women's studies department. After they receive your file from the Psych department, depending on their outlook, they might not like the fact that you didn't seek them out in the first place, like they are your second choice. When they ask you that question, "why did you apply to this program?", they know that your answer has been formulated after your rejection to the Psych program and your referral to their's.

  4. My parents are pretty smart. My dad's a psychologist and my mom's a musician. I've gone through this roller-coaster of deciding what to do my whole life, and here is what they told me. My father: "Make a decision, and make yourself believe that it is happening. Wear it a few days. Wake up and know what the decision is. Go to bed and know what the decision is. In a few days, look at how you feel. If you are happy, then it will be the right decision, and you can make it for real. If you aren't, then try making another. Wear it a few days..." My mother: "Think about what you want to do NEXT YEAR. If you start thinking about your entire life it will become overwhelming. What do you want to do tomorrow? next month? Go for it, and things will become clearer once you are there." Both of those techniques have worked so well for me. Everybody goes through this at some point, and it can be stressful. Stay strong and open and focus on the excitement of all you could do!

Not really. You can probably walk from one end of the campus to the other in 15 minutes, but chances are you will be hanging around a smaller area. The cheapest parking lot is pretty far from the University, however, and biking might be a better option from home if you don't want to make that trek on foot (they do have a shuttle).
  6. Ok guys, I'm seriously considering accepting an offer without hearing back from my final school. My head is spinning. That final school is stringing me along, and I'm exhausted. Lastly, I don't want to string along the school that accepted me!

I completely understand. I'm waiting on the official stuff from my last choice before I make that final decision.

I am in the same boat. I am still waiting to hear from my top choice. I emailed them but still haven't received any response. Ugh.

You know, I'm not even sure if I would accept them if they accept me. But I just hate feeling strung out.

  8. That's so strange. It's almost like they will know the answer before, but they just aren't going to tell you until then.
  9. Freaking perfect. At least I was the popular kid for my other school. But I still want to call up the school going MIA and say, "but, but, I thought we had something SPECIAL."
  10. please give me an answer :(

  12. OK. TODAY. I will hear TODAY. (right?)

  13. I used to make my living playing Irish fiddle. But tonight, somebody is cooking me Italian for dinner and I am not playing out anywhere. Oh, how things change.
  14. I'm with you Kathiza. I look forward to a response to your post!
  15. Dear last school, please let me know your decision. If you reject me, then my decision is easy. If you accept me, then I have many nights of sleepless decision making on the way. I need to know if I should catch up on sleep now to prepare.

I just sent out emails to the last schools I interviewed with, since apparently other applicants were given offers, and I'm in the dark (most likely waitlisted without them telling me). I would like to make my decision sooner rather than later for the schools that did give me offers.

Yep, down to that last ONE. It's kinda agonizing, isn't it? Yet at the same time, I'd almost welcome a rejection.

Oh wow...come on, schools! I need to know noooowww.

  18. I'm not going to lie, I think it's kind of funny. "I didn't make the list?! DAMN! -1!!" "I'm on this list?! Lies! -1!!"
  19. Happy for all of you getting great news!!

  20. I agree! Tell them that the school wasn't the best match for you for various reasons, and you wanted the fellowship opportunity to go to a student who had a higher match. (or something like that). But congrats on the multiple acceptances!
  21. Admissions committees are like the popular kids in middle school. You don't want to upset them, but you want them to like you. You want to be in the club but you know you have to prove yourself first. It's really hard waiting while they are all huddled in a circle talking about you. Hang in there!
  22. I generally agree with the value of patience, but if a program is sitting on your application for much longer than they said they would, I think a polite email inquiry is fine. It's important to word it, of course, so that you do not sound impatient or short.
  23. Just sent a "yo what's my status?" email to my final school. Hopefully I will get closure soon!
