    2. bythesea

      bythesea

      me too - I only applied to 5 :(

  6. I'm having regrets and worries already - I feel like I should have applied to a few more schools, but the deadlines are too close and my letter-writers are already organized/working on my current letters.
  7. Almost ready to submit everything...

  8. Still haven't chosen which paper to use for a writing sample.

  9. I've started having bad dreams (maybe nightmares?) where a school I'm not even applying to in real life is evaluating me, and I'm there for a visit and have to match little jars with test questions/answers on them, but the questions have nothing to do with my discipline.
  10. Ah, okay, good! It's nice to have a variety of mixes to draw upon. : )
  11. I hope I didn't come off rude, sorry if I did.
  12. Still chugging away on my last paper of the semester.

      A Finicky Bean

Me too, my friend, me too.

  13. I haven't yet gotten mine in yet, but I intend to go whole horse on next semester's courses and try to get excellent grades in all of them. I also might work on simplifying/decluttering my home in case of a move for grad school (!). I imagine it's much tougher for those who don't have courses next semester or are finished their degrees already.
  14. eternal return
  15. Stuff without vocals, please! I usually pick an instrumental mix from 8tracks.com/mixes/study
  16. One of mine had to be 300 words. I had to do a LOT of editing, took out most of the past discussion and made it very future-oriented. I also asked several people on another grad-applying website for input on what I could cut. I took out almost everything that could be seen from looking at my transcript or CV. No citations, although I referred to a couple of theorist's names. Took out any trite 'I am a hard-working/determined/etc individual'. * And definitely reword any passive voice sentences, that can cut words by a good deal! And a grievance of my own:trying to balance finishing up these apps at the same time as finishing up final papers for the semester is painful.
  17. You'll probably want to specify some problems/areas in your SOP, but it's better to admit you're not 100% sure yet than to pinpoint an exact problem when you're not sure. I don't know much about Ryerson but I'd suggest applying to at least 3-4 schools to have a wider net. York isn't a bad idea,Waring, Dimmock, and Cragg seem to be in your area. Queens has Schüklenk,Sypnowich, and Pratt. Guelph was recommended to me but I won't be applying there, but Dr. Harvey fits well with your project too. McMaster is also a thought, for ones close to Toronto.
  18. westward wind
  19. Thought l'd try to revive this thread - how are everyone's applications going? Submitted already, or more left to be done?
  20. LORs should be submitted any day now...

  21. I think whether the courses are probationary or preliminary depends on the school. Here are some example links I dug up, hope it helps: http://www.mcgill.ca/history/graduate/ma#QUALIFYING http://www.yorku.ca/gradhist/ma/index.html http://www.ucalgary.ca/pubs/calendar/current/gs-3.html http://www4.carleton.ca/calendars/grad/current/regulations/index.html#2
  22. Hi: most Canadian schools have deadlines around early-mid January, and very few require the GRE. I'd highly recommend applying to some up here!
  23. What is your area of focus within philosophy?
  24. I'm in the same boat lolopixie. You can do it! Hopefully I can as well.
