frances1022 Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Has anyone received a rejection or waitlist from Laurier advanced standing yet?

I'm not super interested in waiting another year to apply just to stay in Toronto so i've conditionally accepted the offer from Carleton. I would have loved to go to Dalhousie just to be on the east coast but perhaps its not a wise to spend a bunch of money just to go live by the sea~~~~~~~~~~~ To be honest I didn't notice much of a difference between the Carleton and Dalhousie programs - does anyone have any insights into any big differences between the two? Sending love to all you waitlisted babes out there, you are worthy. see you in the fall at Carleton

If it's rolling admission- in that they give decisions based on when people applied- i would have thought i would have heard by now...so no idea what to think...do UBCO keep a waitlist? You got 2 emails that it was under review? I only got one on January 24th…did anyone else get 2 emails?

TeeM2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 I got waitlisted for the UofT MSW program. I got an email today at 12:49 saying 'an update has been made to your application. I'm a domestic student. I wonder what the odds are of getting off this waitlist
taco-belle Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 (edited) Also joining the waitlist club for UofT 2 year... there certainly seems to be a lot of this ? I'm figuring the likelihood of getting accepted off the waitlist is probably pretty small, but I'm just happy that I wasn't outright rejected lol Edit: in case it's helpful to anyone, my last name initial is L and I'm a domestic applicant. RiceCrackerrr Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Nothing from UofT yet… No offer, no waitlist, nothing. Been refreshing my SGS page and email every 5mins. Geez I’m soooo done with this waiting game ? Still holding a tiny bit of hope on alphabetical orders… Last name initial Y. Anyone with last name starts with U-Z received their decision? taco-belle 1

shani101 Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Just got waitlisted for UofT 2 Year Program. My first time applying, last name starts with an S and I got the email at 1:39 p.m. I heard the waitlist is unranked bc if someone rejects their offer, they'll find someone with a similar candidate profile. For example, if you have lots of research experience but less field experience, they'll find someone on the waitlist with those same qualities to offer the acceptance to. Still waiting to hear back from the York 2 Year MSW program. Has anyone heard anything yet? RiceCrackerrr, WhoDat, T.O.hopeful and 2 others 4 1

This might change my RNGesus prayers because I can get a lot more specific with them ?

RiceCrackerrr Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 I just put September 30, 2022. I know it says it's gonna close by early Sept but just in case. jyjy22 and ShaDiMSW2022 2
TikiRogers Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Hello everyone! Long-time lurker, sporadic contributor to the 2-year MSW thread of last year. Congrats to all those who have been accepted to various programs :) I have been accepted to a school, rejected from two schools, and waitlisted at two others - one of my waitlist schools being UofT (like so many of us, it seems). Honestly at this point in my life and my academic career, it doesn't make a huge difference to me which school I attend (I am fortunate in that I will be able to relocate anywhere in the country without it being super hard on my finances, and I have no caregiving responsibilities anymore), and I've only applied to CASWE-accredited schools. I've noticed a big emphasis on UofT in this thread. I understand that it's the number 1 social work grad school in Canada, has a good amount of focus on clinical work, and is close, for those of us who live in the GTA. But I am wondering if there's anything to recommend it beyond those factors. I don't want to take the wind out of anyone's sails if you're waiting on a response from UofT, or applying again next year, or to diminish your achievements if you got in (far be it from me to do so! I think it's an amazing achievement with such stiff competition), but I am wondering if you all know something I don't lol. I am genuinely curious: why is it that people apply year after year almost solely to get into UofT? Is there something very unique about the skills it equips you with? Does it offer more opportunities to its students or graduates? Is it easier to get a position as an MSW in the job market if they see you've gone to UofT? Yeah :) These are all the questions I can think of, but if you can also answer a question I haven't thought to ask, that would also be cool! Good luck to everyone, and don't let this process get you down <3 Hoping_MSW and confusedsamosa 1 1

Good luck to everyone, and don't let this process get you down ❤️ I got accepted into UofT MSW (fourth attempt). UofT was my top choice because of location (I can't move super far from Toronto/want to keep my current job as part time during grad school), I know many UofT social workers who have great careers in my areas of interests, they have 5 streams which helps you specialize into your area of interest (I'm choosing Mental Health/Health), and they usually have great practicum placements available (esp. Clinical-focused placements). Overall UofT is very clinical-focused which is ideal for people who want to work in hospitals/practice in clinical settings and do therapy. Other schools have different foci like social justice, macro practice/policy, and others are more generalist. Forgot to add but another poster reminded me - this is one of the few programs that have a non-BSW program and they have a much bigger cohort (140 vs. 25-30).
