I also got accepted by Indiana for Fall 2012, but without first year funding. Does anyone know anything about the funding situation in Indiana this year? Is there a waiting list for funding?

Hi, Sun Yuezhu!

I'm not exactly sure how the funding is worked out there, but I do know that they have a somewhat large incoming class of 15-20. It's no wonder they can't offer first year funding to all of these new students. It seems like they pick a very select few from each incoming class to fund and the rest have to fight it out for the TA positions during 2nd and 3rd year. Indiana is a great program and everyone there has been super nice, but I decided to decline their offer and take UCR's because they also have a great program and they offered a fellowship.

I emailed the graduate secretary, but no replies....

I just called, and she said that they sent letters out earlier this week, so we should get them Friday or Monday. Good luck everyone! So nervous!

I too am waiting for a response from Pitt, good luck everyone. I really want an acceptance from Pitt, but I was lucky enough to get a great tution waver with a month stipen from my 2nd choice (NDSU), so I won't be totally devistated if I don't get in. I do wish they would have given us the info on the website instead of killing a tree though....the wait wouldn't be so unbearable!

Anyone know any info on University Montana Anthro Department admission results/info?

'

I emailed them a few days ago and haven't received a response. They're the only school I haven't heard from yet so I hope we hear soon- I need to start making some decisions!

Hey:

Congrats on your URC offer! I heard their program is great ! I wanted to apply to UCR too, but the prof I'd like to work with transferred to another school last summer. Anyway, thank you for the info!

Thanks! I am pretty excited to get started! Bummer your POI from UCR transferred! Did you apply to any other programs besides Indiana?

Anyone heard anything recent from UC Irvine? I'm expecting the rejection any day, but I'm getting impatient haha.

I haven't heard anything from them, but I haven't emailed them yet. It's getting really late in the game. Did you email them?

Anyone hear from Columbia anthro (archaeology)? Once again just waiting for that rejection, but I'm getting impatient.

I called Columbia on Monday and they said decisions would be made by the end of the week . . . haha, still haven't heard from them yet. I also applied to the archaeology program.

Yes I did. My POI from UCR transferred to Harvard (a much more competitive program.and of course I did not get in..lucky me :( :( ).I got into the socio-cultural program in UNLV with money. Does anyone have any inside info about this program? Or life in Las Vegas in generally, besides strippers and casinos?

Sorry to hear that about your UCR POI! I've only heard good things about the program at UNLV! They have some great people there! I have some family that live out in Las Vegas. They love it! It is pretty easy to get distracted in a city like that, but as long as you stay focused, you'll be just fine! It gets REALLY hot out there in the summer (it is the desert afterall). But there are some nice places to hike out there (like Red Rock). I fully intended on applying there, but ultimately decided against it because the program wasn't as good a fit for my interests as others. Anyways, congrats on UNLV!!!

I did my undergrad at UNLV and can say, in all honesty, the majority of professors are AMAZING. Who is your POI?

There is much more to living in Las Vegas than strippers and casinos. Once you get off the strip, it is pretty much like any other suburb in America. Well, except for the occasional neighborhood casino, which house most of the movie theaters and the slot machines in the grocery stores. You will get use to it though. In fact, you won’t even notice it after awhile. Plus Las Vegas is a great place to study cultural anthropology!

I should warn you that the neighborhood right around the university isn’t that nice. I suggest looking for housing a little ways away in Green Valley, Henderson or Silverado Ranch. It will only be a 10-30 minute commute, depending on which area you choose, but it is much nicer. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Congratulations! You’re going to love it there.

I am just wondering if anybody has declined (or knows someone who declined) a PhD (sociocultural) offer at UChicago?

I'm on the waitlist.

Thanks

I'm in a similar situation with Columbia. Does anyone know any Columbia admits who might decline their offer?

Are there any Temple PhD admits lurking around here? If so, I have a question. I saw that someone just posted an admit to the results survey (the only other admit I saw was back in Feb., so I have long counted myself out of the running, but...); what does your application status list online? I wanted to check with someone before I contacted the department, as mine still reads "pending review." Who did you contact in the department to find out? I have been in most contact with Prof. Garrett, but I am insanely nervous to email him and check in ... eep!

Seriously, it's practically April and I still haven't heard from AU or Temple. I mean, just send my rejections already!!!! :) Congrats to everyone who's been getting some good news!
