Nyctophile Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Oh, yes. I have kids and need a 3-bedroom (not shared with other bill-payers), and all of the schools I'm still considering are in areas with a higher cost of living than where I am now. I know how to live frugally, but it's still anxiety-producing. The "I'm not good enough" worry is most profound with the school that offered me a hefty fellowship. I'm doing the [*points to self* "who?… me?"] thing, for sure. It's intimidating. if you decide to go with UCR and need info about the neighborhood, feel free to message. I grew up not far from there and lived in Riverside for a few years so I know the area fairly well.
arober6912 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 oh bugger...there's the first rutgers accept on the board... And so it begins.... Good luck!
arober6912 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Looking at the Rutgers acceptance on the board, all I can think is "The audacity! How could one hear on the 23rd and not notify the general populace ASAP!?!?" Is that sad? Have we reached that level yet?
mikers86 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 ...shit. Well, there goes that possibility!
elizabethevrhrt Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 oh bugger...there's the first rutgers accept on the board... My thoughts exactly.

I had the same exact reaction when I saw it.
BookGeek Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Are there any current URI Ph.D. students here? I just received my acceptance, but have not heard anything about funding yet. The results page seems to suggest that this is common.
BunnyWantsaPhD Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Anybody hear anything or know anything about U of Iowa? It's pretty much the last school I'm waiting to hear from...so all my hopes and dreams essentially rest on this school. Ugh.
Romanista Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 To the person accepted to the University of Miami: which website shows your application status? This is one of the schools that hasn't sent any kind of information on how to check one's status.

It looks like last year they started notifying at the very end of February. Not that last year's pattern means anything definitively. But I'm waiting on them, too!

Between Fields Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 (edited) I got accepted to URI last week and didn't find out about funding info until the DGS emailed me a day or so later. EDIT: And in related news, paper waitlist letters from Missouri were dated 19 February and I got one, today, if anyone's still waiting... I would love to ask the same question! I can't decide if I'm going to lose 20 pounds from stress, or gain 40 from eating my feelings. For the sake of fitting into my clothes, I need this to end. Horb Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I never really gain weight. I stay relatively the same size. Then this process happened. Now I really need to go to the gym. Ugh.
despejado Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I never really gain weight. I stay relatively the same size. Then this process happened. Now I really need to go to the gym. Ugh. Yes. This. I started running last week. I swear it's the bagels.
Horb Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I have been eating just way too much food. Thank god it is winter. I can wear bulky sweaters and be comfy.
toasterazzi Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 EDIT: And in related news, paper waitlist letters from Missouri were dated 19 February and I got one, today, if anyone's still waiting... Thanks for the update. I've been waiting to hear from them. I was expecting rejection since I saw acceptances go up almost two weeks, but now I'm gonna have to compulsively check the mail...
andromache Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Rejected from CUNY's PhD program, but accepted to the MA in liberal studies. Can't find any funding info, so I'm assuming that there isn't any. I just want to get into a program with FUNDING!
despejado Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I have been eating just way too much food. Thank god it is winter. I can wear bulky sweaters and be comfy. Oh lord, I wish. Not in Texas. It's shorts weather and they're starting to feel tight. Actually, I'm about to hit up the treadmill right now. I have some stress and anxiety to run off.
BunnyWantsaPhD Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 drinking wine before working out pretty much covers all the bases, right? That's what I'm doing tonight anyway ; ) Don't we all! I can't decide if I'm going to lose 20 pounds from stress, or gain 40 from eating my feelings. For the sake of fitting into my clothes, I need this to end. Hah
