tabbykiki Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 anyone hear anything from VCU re: interviews? Curious about VCU as well...
Yellow Magnet Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Curious about VCU as well... I know that VCU departments do all reviews and invites independently. Some departments are much slower than others because of the amount of applications they need to go through. They are also the type to invite current grad students in the selection process.
DidacticPrinter Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Yellow Magnet: When did you hear from CCA? And any idea if all departments request interviews? They're my top choice, but with their interview date set for 2/23 I'm feeling a bit nervous about the non-response I'm hearing...
DidacticPrinter Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 While I know this article is fairly strictly about MFAs in creative writing, I'm pretty sure it's almost identical for visual arts as well... It's a good read, nonetheless. http://chronicle.com/blogs/arts/m-f-a-application-season-etiquette/29172

They're my top choice, but with their interview date set for 2/23 I'm feeling a bit nervous about the non-response I'm hearing... I was contacted on Feb 5th via email and was given the option of setting up a skype interview. I am not sure if it was just the sculpture department or all department. Wish i could be of more help.
krohmer Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 During my UT-Austin interview they told me that I was their first painting interview, I don't know if that is a good thing or it's just a coincidence. Any ideas?
pulpandink Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Rejected by Tyler today…oh, well… saves me the cost of a cross-country move.

Good to know, thanks. I applied for the Vis Comm program at VCU... Not a lot of data out there on typical notification dates.

Any ideas? Seems like a good thing to me that they chose to mention it. Noticed your signature -- are you interviewing in person at Penn or over Skype?
Czarina Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Second rejection. VCU Painting/printmaking. Found out via email after inquiring about interviews. Trying to fight off the feeling of bleakness even though there are still a few more to go.
kafralal Posted February 10, 2014 Author Posted February 10, 2014 Keep your head up, Czarina! I second that. It just takes one!
pulpandink Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Anyone hear anything from Indiana-Bloomington yet?
meese Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Well, people are hearing back from temple. Anyone applying to the photography department hear anything yet? I'm finally at 'complete and ready for review' as the last recommender finally turned in his recommendation. Urgh, I'm going into that deathspiral where everything is riding on me getting into grad school. Not to sound dramatic *snerk* but I either need to get into a MFA program or have some form of magic happen and get me into a job that I don't despise will all my heart and soul. Corporate Retail is a rank bitch.
krohmer Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Seems like a good thing to me that they chose to mention it. Noticed your signature -- are you interviewing in person at Penn or over Skype? I decided to do a Skype interview, which is tomorrow actually. I hope doing a Skype interview instead of flying out doesn't hurt my chances. What did you decide to do? Congrats on the UT interview! How did it go?

What did you decide to do? Congrats on the UT interview! How did it go? It seems like a great many people are doing Skype interviews, so I doubt it will hurt your chances. I'm only 2 hours away from Philadelphia so I opted to go and visit the department while I was at it. I feel like I didn't do very well with the UT interview.. I was pretty nervous and didn't articulate my ideas very clearly. I'm hoping they liked me regardless. What was your experience? Good luck with the meeting tomorrow!

evd Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Congrats! How did Syracuse inform you, email? - I applied to 'Cuse as well, different department email from the program coordinator for photography. this only happened a couple hours ago though, and it might be different for the departments depending on how long it takes to review the submission materials.

Make sure you post after your visit and interview, and good luck! I bet it went better then you think! It is such a strange sensation speaking to someone through Skype. My interview was alright I suppose. Sarah Canright said "excellent answer!" a couple times and seemed to enjoy what I was saying, but Dan Sutherland didn't seem too impressed. I guess we shall see! Thank you!
alexandria Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Got a catalog from saic in the mail today. Tricky mail! Not exactly what I was waiting for..... Ha! I got one too and thought the same thing. cruel tricks.
