Has Anyone Else Gotten Problematically Lazy Since Being Accepted?

Maybe its good to relax a little before starting grad school.

My last semester only consists of an internship/thesis at a company. While it is full time work, I have the weekends to just relax. Totally forgot how it feels to have a day or two off :)

Jesus yes. I just don't care. I did it. I'm done, I don't care about my classes I just want to get out. The only thing that sort of holds my productivity together are departmental honors and my own expectations. I just want to study what I want to study, I don't care about a fourth course in analysis or formal languages >< My graduate course is pretty flipping sweet and I like to study for it but even then I don't care enough to slog through the nonsense for the grade -.-

Problematic is the right word. I'm in my last semester of UG and I'm taking four courses. One of them is just so pointless... I have my final presentation on tuesday and I've been trying to find the motivation to work on it all weekend. Let's just say I haven't found it. Thank goodness I am the first to present and then I can just show up and enjoy everyone else's presentation for the next few weeks. Two other of my courses still seem relevant so those I'm still motivated for. The fourth is easy and kind of fun.

I'm kind of glad I'm not the only one feeling this way...

I have also become slightly lazy, but I feel like most (if not all) undergraduates suffer from "senioritis" at some point just because you're that much close to the next step in life.  ;) I'll try to embrace both the lazy and the determined parts of me.

A world of yes, since being accepted to program A but still waiting and waiting and waiting on program B and still not knowing where I'll be hanging my hat in September.  And the thing is, I haven't been lazy at all, but I *feel* lazy and unmotivated.  I get myself to do what I need to do, but I feel no satisfaction in any of it.

THIS. The uncertainty has been really distracting. And I though it would get better after I got an acceptance and it did, but shortly after, I was put on a wait list and the waiting began again. I'm a planner; I like to know what I'm going to be doing with my life and where I'm going to end up and this whole experience has been the opposite of having a organized life plan.

At least the distraction is happening at work and not while I'm writing my thesis. So I have that going for me.

Not so much lazy, but I'm distracted.  I'd rather be getting ready for my move than doing any of the things I'm supposed to be doing.

I've got both going for me, haha! I'm doing stuff like looking at apartments for the fall instead of my homework! I'm glad I only have a month and a half left. :P

I am thinking of withdrawing from a course (well after the add/drop deadline), so it'd show up on my transcript. But I'm already into my top two schools, and I don't think they'd really care about it.

I finished my M.A. program in January and now I'm working at a used bookstore full time before heading off to my program in the fall...so I am not sure as if lazy is the correct word so much as anxious to just head out to the program.

I am two years out of undergrad and currently work a job with extremely minimal and flexible hours, so right now I have plenty of time to read all those books on my Goodreads checklist and watch all of those series on my Netflix playlist without guilt ;) Not sure how difficult the change back to intense round-the-clock academic work is going to be, but I'm all about enjoying this time of guilt-free indulgence while I've got it!

God, yes. Accepted my spot at Columbia and my productivity plummeted. One of my classes doesn't have formal due dates and I've been procrastinating one of the papers for the past two weeks. I'm a little afraid I might end up turning it in before graduation :P

I found out I got accepted just before sitting a neurology midterm, which of course I sat with zero anxiety and pressure, and ended up getting 100%. Of course! When it no longer matters! Geez... My non-professionally-related electives, however, have definitely succumbed to my laziness.

Yeah that is so painful. I spend so much time looking for apartments and thinking about how my life at grad school will be.

I want this experience to start. NOW!

This is exactly how I think 11

I messed up my 3-step plan. Oh well.

At this point, I just have homeworks, finals, 1 project, and my jobs. Three weeks left of classes. So close! >_<

  • 2 weeks later...

I didn't participate previously in this thread, but I identify with the laziness--I'm still basking in the afterglow of being accepted by top program. I've been paradoxically lazy and anxious about apartment hunting, mostly, whereas I've begun reading some canonical texts about my field (I have no access to reading lists; I'm just being a nerdy overachiever). We'll see how I fare in May, when grad students at my school typically secure housing for the fall...

Personally, I am racing at this point.  I had to get observations done for a clinical class and the majority of my observations have been canceling.  Now I am trying to get 19 more hours for speech/audiology in 3 weeks!  Can I just say... AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!

for me it is the opposite, i need to finish all my tasks at my job before i depart , it means a lot of things to do..
and im trying to finish a paper to publish it before i start the PhD, then im in hurry

i know i should rest because after i will be totally focused on the PhD,

i cant be lazy now :c (even i want )

I can't afford to become "problematically lazy." I'm in my clinical experience right now, so I am responsible for teaching English/Language Arts to 140 students.

As I sit around my house on this incredibly unproductive Sunday, I couldn't agree more with the OP. Senioritis to the MAX. Already been accepted, only taking 9 credits (all i needed), and just two weeks left... Hopefully I can jump back into the swing of things, come August..

16 credits, (12 needed), and I'm slacking off big time. Doesn't help that six of those credits are with a prof with incredibly lenient policies for late work. All I know is that there are 11 class days left of this semester (before finals) and I'm going to be handing something major (or a lot of something minor) every damn one of them.
