Hi all!

Is anyone else wondering how good their references will be?

How important are references compared to grades? Does anyone know? I am wondering about the clinical one in particular. I really wish we didn't need so many references; they are so subjective and you just never know what they're going to say

For anyone applying to McGill... once you complete the checklist (i.e., upload transcripts, answer the questions, etc.) is there something to do to completely submit your application? I don't see any button to press that gives me a sense of completion haha. I guess once you've completed everything that's it? Just wanted to make sure.

Thanks!

Haha! I was wondering the same thing! Wrote them to ask, but haven't heard back.

Canada Post lost my Priority mail to ORPAS.

With my letters of reference

Not to sound dramatic or anything.... but they ruined my life.

Oh no, I'm so sorry Vancity! Do you think if Canada Post wrote you an official statement of some sort, ORPAS could grant you a delay or something?

Get them re-sent! It seems like most of the Ontario schools are accepting references/transcripts until the end of the month!

Good idea, although I think you need to have the referees mail them in themselves, Vancity. I was told I could not mail them directly. Edited by speechful11

Have any U of A applicants received any indication from them that their application is complete? ApplyGrad says "request pending" and beartracks says my reference letters are "initiated"/"requires action". My letters were mailed, but they were all sent from within Edmonton (and two of those from campus) so I doubt that they're lost in transit or anything like that. I ask because I've received some sort of confirmation from everywhere else I've applied, but not them.

How are you accessing beartracks? On applygrad the status of my application also says "request pending"... today though my application was updated and it says they have received all my reference letters. I am reapplying though so I only had one new letter that was mailed in, the rest were taken from my previous application.

This is probably a stupid question but what's ApplyGrad? What school is that for?

It's the online application system for the University of Alberta!

I am experiencing the same issue.... I was able to see the status of my documents on Thursday and saw that one letter is currently outstanding. I know he mailed it in earlier than my other two references so I assumed the letter either got misplaced or lost in the mail. He resent it on Friday but clearly I knew it was going to be late. I emailed ORPAS and this is what they said :

"Thank you for your email. As you can well imagine, there is a large volume of mail received and processed by ORPAS, particularly during deadline time. All documents are date stamped as of the date they are received, and are uploaded into the system as quickly as possible.

Please note that you will need to keep checking the website, as we update the information as soon as it becomes available.

We suggest that you keep all communications (such as emails) with regards to your transcript requests and your referees showing that you requested these documents well before the deadline. This information would cover all your bases should the documents be late in arriving. "

So I would suggest contacting them about it but I hope this helps!

Why doesn't ORPAS just switch to an entier l'y online process like McGill?

I have access to beartracks because I did my undergrad at the U of A. I can view the status of my application by pressing "admissions".

Mine changed to "received" as well but I thought that was because the online email thing accepted it? All of my letters were sent by mail, so I entered the csd address.

Thanks all. It will be ok. There is always UBC..... and I hand delivered that stuff. #nevertrustCanadaPost

Hey everyone,

Do you know if ORPAS will tell us how they calculated our GPA and when? I remember some of last year's applicants talking about how ORPAS calculated some things differently so I wonder how we can see their final numbers.

My application shows they've had my transcript for a few days now.

Thanks! :)

The GPA calcuation can be found on the bottom left hand side of the application menu that has information about orpas.

However, ORPAS will update your profile to show the exact grades, total gpa, and last 60 gpa sometime in Febuary.

Hi! Yes, for me

Arggh, sorry about that first post: can anybody tell me how we can edit our own posts?

As a plan B, I'm looking into master programs to teach French in high school or French as a second language. Applied linguistics is another possibility. I haven't started the proccess for those programs yet though.

This is exactly what I wanted to know. I'll check again next month. Thanks, Kats!

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if any one has any backups to SLP? It is very competitive

I have no real back ups - SLP is it for me. I can't think of anything else that would suit me better. I do teach ESL so maybe I would keep doing that or something in rehabilitation. Or language research. Only sure about SLP! Edited by speechful11

Just an update - my application status changed to "submitted" today!

My application status for the University of Alberta still says some items are pending, and it says that for ALL of my items!! My referees have all received confirmation that their letters were received, and my transcripts say they're at the destination. So worried...

Can anyone tell me how many people are admitted each year into the program at Western? I know its a smaller class size but I can't seem to find it listed  anywhere on their website.

Last year, it was about 36 people. Ranges from 33-36 from what I understand. Not sure what this year will be like. Edited by speechful11
