2015 Canadian SLP Thread!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if any one has any backups to SLP? It is very competitive

I'm not sure if I'd actually go into the other programs or not, but I have applied for backups. I applied for occupational therapy and a few college programs, a CDA one and one for autism and behavioural science.

My official GRE scores were not received by Dalhousie even though I had them sent directly on December 19th. How frustrating! Hopefully this doesn't happen to anyone else.

Hi! Is anyone else still waiting for their Dalhousie application checklist to be updated online?

Mine still hasn't updated. They just emailed me to say they hadn't received my GRE scores. So I'm assuming if you're missing anything they will most likely contact you this week.

I received an email on Wednesday from Dal letting me know they had received all my documents and they also updated my online application that day.

Mine has not been updated at all but I received an email from them saying that they had received all of my materials.

May I ask when you sent your documents in? I sent mine in well before the 15th, and I haven't heard anything from them. It's making me quite stressed!

My Dal application says that nothing by the application fee, transcripts and reference letters have been received. I sent my GRE scores in August, so I know they DEFINITELY will have gotten them by now.

EDIT: I just realized that at the top of the application summary page, it says, "The Received field indicates whether or not a requirement has been met/document received. This information may not always be updated for Dentistry, Law and Graduate programs."

I mailed mine Dec 29th. Maybe they are going through the applications alphabetically to make sure everyone has everything sent in?

I wouldn't worry too much about it. They said they would contact anyone if they were missing documents to give them a chance to resubmit. And considering the fact that they definitely looked at my application and saw that my GRE scores were missing and still have not updated my online checklist shows that they just aren't updating the checklists.

I really don't wanna wait until April to find out!

Hi everyone!

I recently started a small project called "Sincerely shared". I would really appreciate it if you guys checked it out!

www.ssymond.wix.com/sincerelyshared

It's an SLP-based project - I am aiming to raise awareness for Parkinson's induced speech, language and communication deficits through the sharing of ANONYMOUS stories. Please visit the link and see what we're all about! And, feel free to submit your own story by clicking on "Share your story", following the procedure outlined! I would really appreciate the support, and I'm sure all of you will be able to relate because of your personal experiences volunteering in SLP.

Thanks guys and good luck to everyone! All the best.

Some of my documents were taken from last year's application, some were sent in early December and I dropped my resume and additional information form off in person on January 15th!

My GRE was sent in October when I wrote the exam. Everything else was sent mid December.

Thank you for letting me know!! Fingers crossed that I hear back from Dalhousie soon!

I had a dream where I accidently pressed a button that cancelled my whole application.

I can't help hoping they'll start accepting in February this year. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas in October all over again... Except this time there might be no gifts!

Is anyone applying with just a  non-honours degree? I am only doing a B.A. in hopes to save my gpa.. I have spoken to U of T, and they dont require a honours, but is it an advantage in any way?

Thanks

I'm not sure about UofT but I contacted Dal about this a few years ago and they told me it is much more advantageous to have a higher GPA than an honours degree. I know most school like to see that you have research experience though, but I think any research experience is good... it doesn't necessarily have to be an honours project.

I'm applying without an honours degree. I wanted to focus on my GPA and volunteering. Plus, at my university, doing an honours degree takes longer, and I just want to get onto SLP as soon as I can!

Is any one getting frusterated with sGPA calculations? I am almost considering redoing 2 courses where I got a b+ because it's bringing me down that much!

I wouldn't worry too much. I remember asking UofT a long time ago something similar and they told me B+ and above is looked at favourably (of course, the higher the better). If you had a B or below then maybe (but not necessarily) in your favour to re-do. I don't think many people would re-take a B+. Edited by speechful11
