Called VT today to see what they meant by a decision has not been made on my application. Basically because my POI has no funding and all TA positions have been awarded, they want to see if new funding becomes available. She didn't say it means I've been waitlisted. Expecting a rejection from here too. Does anybody know when Nebraska notifies its candidates? Or UMass ?

There are the geophysics that geologists study, which is "geophysics" and then there are the geophysics that physicists study, which is geophysics..... I guess i'm a bit biased hahahaha.

What is the geophysics that geophysicists study? (Geophys major here...definintely not a rock-licker  :-P )

I remember when I was taking geology lab and the TA wanted us to lick rocks we found during a field trip... No thanks haha

That was the moment when I was 100% I wanted to be a geophysicist.

I have never wanted to identify a rock so badly that I had to lick it. But some people...

Received emails from some of my POIs:

UCSB POI doesn't have funding for a student this season

UC Davis POI could not get any of their applicants through on first round offers, and likely will not be able to admit any students

Arizona State has reviewed applications but decisions are still being made.

Still hopeful to maybe hear back from somewhere else today though!  ;)

That's not very encouraging. I hope you get some good news soon.

Just heard back from my POI at UNLV. He/She informed me that the grad committee has met and that SOME decisions have been made. They are awaiting an update to funding to see how many more students they will be accepting.

I presume this means top tier candidates were sent acceptances and that they are waiting to hear back to see how many new acceptances they should be mailing out? I am quite hopeful for UNLV since my POI has funding!

Advisor asked me today if I had any plan Bs :/. He's going to try to hook me up with an environmental consulting company

And just to throw into the mix, I am still awaiting decisions @ UC Boulder, UNLV, and Texas Tech in case any of you are waiting to hear from them as well

I don't know how some of you are handling the wait. I've already heard news from a couple of schools and I am still ready to email all of my POI's today. Is it April yet?

I've pretty much done my best to forget that I've applied to graduate school. Mainly with the hopes that I'll be pleasantly surprised with any news...

Fortunately for me three of the six school to which I applied do not admit students until March (or so I've been told).

-back to forgetting about grad school-

April 27th is really late... that probably means its an acceptance but i'm not sure they secured funding for you since funded offers expire on april 15th at other places.

I don't think that means much of anything. Decisions are due by April 15th anyway. Sorry. I hope you get in!

I just got off the phone with my POI at Nebraska, he said that there's a place for me there (he admitted me) but he's unsure about funding. Is it worth going without funding ?
