I did ask him about it yesterday and he, for real, compared it to "Survivor" in that the contestants, if voted off the island or wherever they are, can't tell their families about their status until the show airs (?).

He said I could tell my immediate family but he asked me not to post it on facebook or twitter.

Also, anyone here apply for a DAAD grant as well?

Just received word from the folks over at DAAD via email, that's a negative ghost rider. Rats. Anyone else hear back from the DAAD?

Must be the first one to find out... I'm a Bulgaria ETA finalist, found out today that I won the grant. Good luck to everyone!

Wow, that was quick. Congrats! You must be on cloud nine. Enjoy!

Hi mcgov36,

Congrats! Did it come to your college mailing address or your permanent address? Was it a thin envelope? I'm on Spring Break now and can't wait to get back to campus to check my mail.

Oh, how I envy you! Don't forget to add your stats to this spreadsheet: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=taWW8xiKve1Tm6Ow6bHdhYA&hl=en#

We're tracking when everyone receives their notifications!

That goes for everyone else, too! Update the spreadsheet when you get a result!

Anyone else waiting on word from Mexico? I applied for the research grant, but i haven't heard peep since the first round recommendation. (I'd pretend like waiting was getting in the way of "making other plans," but really I'm just impatient to hear.)

Hello Sally and other Spain finalists,

I just read on the Fulbright Espana website that grantees will be announced by April 1st. It even mentions the exact amount of the award:

ETA: https://www.fulbright.es/book/view/118

Full Grant: https://www.fulbright.es/book/view/95

MBA: https://www.fulbright.es/book/view/97

Hopefully we'll hear back in a few more weeks!

ooo gracias! But what does this mean? "Fecha prevista apertura próxima convocatoria:mayo de 2010"

Does it mean they will select by April 1 but won't tell us until May?!

Hi everyone...and congratulations to those who got notification of acceptance for Bulgaria. It's exciting to know that news is trickling in.

FYI for knownothing and anyone else out there who applied to Nepal, a grantee from 2008 has told me that he heard around Easter (I think about March 26 that year), so maybe we will get lucky this month too.

Anyway, I wanted to share this with anyone who might be interested (and willing to jump the gun). It's a full copy of the 2009 handbook for grantees. Maybe some of you have already seen it, but just in case, here is the link: https://us.fulbrightonline.org/documents/handbook_09.pdf.

Good luck everyone!

HEY! Who deleted the spreadsheet? I hope it was an accident, otherwise that was pretty mean!

Anyway... no big deal. I saved a copy of it on my hardrive yesterday... it's on my other laptop, though. I will fix it when I have the chance!

But, whoever you are, don't delete it this time! You would just be creating more work for me!

Edit: Nevermind, delete it all you want! I just realized that Google spreadsheets logs the past versions of the spreadsheet every time a different person makes a change. So I can just hit "revert" and it goes back to the way it was before.. Google thinks of everything! Sorry for the false alarm, everyone :)

I found this when I just googled "sub-Saharan Africa Fulbright." I was trying to see if they had information about when we would hear, as it sounds like the Spanish site has, but instead I found this:

http://fulbright.state.gov/orientation/af-nea-sca which is the schedule for the 2010 orientation. Could be premature, but it might make sense to avoid booking vacations for June 21-24 until we hear either way- which I have heard tends to be quite late...

Great find! Turns out there's information on all of the 2010 orientations! http://fulbright.state.gov/orientation/

Warning: this is maybe the most hypocritical post ever because by posting in this forum, I am sure you can guess what my "status" in the Fulbright competition is.

My Fulbright advisor told me not to tell anyone (besides my immediate family) about my status in the Fulbright competition as to whether or not I am a finalist or not a finalist until the final decisions are made. Was anyone else told this? Is this common practice or something my advisor made up? Just curious...

Thanks in advance!

Definitely not common practice. When my advisor was notified, she actually asked me to speak as a student representative for Fulbright on a panel discussion for the 2011-2012 applicants at my school. I say, tell as many people as you'd like.

Last year's thread has quite a bit about letters (for at least some regions) only going out from Fulbright IIE on Wednesdays. I think we only have one acceptance reported here so far, but is there any indication of whether or not this is the case this year?

I'm waiting to hear from Mexico too! I applied for a research grant as well. This waiting is the worst. My letter stated I would hear sometime b/t March thru May!

Quick question: Do the grantees always find out through snail mail from the host agency abroad? Does IIE email the grantee in addition?

Last year, hardly anyone got e-mails. It was just snail mail. Although for some the letter came from abroad, others it came from IIE. I think it might depend on whether the country you applied to has its own Fulbright Comission or not.

I noticed on @Sally's spreadsheet that someone got the grant for Austria yesterday. Congrats whoever you are. It's even more exciting that it came by email.

That's how they should be notifying people...an email as soon as they can and a snail mail letter to follow up with! Leave it to the Austrians to show some compassion! biggrin.gif
