Hey y'all I have been reading this thread along with the yale one and I've seen a lot of people talking about shipping their portfolios to the interview, flying with them, or driving them, but it seems like lots of this talk is by the people applying for painting. This leads me to ask: DO I HAVE TO BRING MY WORK TO MY INTERVIEW???? (because I had no idea!)

I'm applying for sculpture and could straight up not physically carry my portfolio to my interviews.

I know this is a stupid question but any imput would be amazing as I'm really freaking out about it!

I was wondering this yesterday. I may feel a bit awkward showing up empty handed, but I'm interviewing for Sound so I'm not sure what I'd bring anyway . . .

Also it seems from years previous they send an email w/more details to those with scheduled interviews 1-2 weeks before the interview. So we'll see.

Hey, congrats on the SMFA interview!

The school should tell you what they need. My SAIC performance interview doesn't require me to bring anything original, but they did tell me to bring my portfolio on a flash drive as a backup. Yale is pretty notorious for requiring original work at the interviews for painting applicants (sculpture seems exempt from this, thankfully, and I have no idea about the other departments). If you have an interview and are unclear on the parameters, by all means ask the program assistant. My overall impression is that requiring original work is pretty rare. That said, it's not a bad idea to have documentation on you of both your portfolio and recent work (either finished or in-progress) since submission.

Just got an interview request for SAIC Photo department.

This one will be skype (again!) because I'll be flying from Vermont to New York.

I REALLY want to hear from Northwestern....what's going on?!

Congratulations!

Well, last year with NU, looks like they let people know in the first week of February. Their application deadline was fairly recent, too (the 12th, right?), so give 'em some time. It sounds like a lot of us here applied there; they might have a larger-than-normal crop of applications to sift through.

I'm personally wondering what the heck is taking Stanford so long -- their deadline was 12/8.

Thanks!

I just hope the interviews are in March so I can actually make it to at least one Chicago interview. Blegh!

Thank you for info!

Stanford's admission page indicated a gap between the application deadline and the committee's review. I believe their timeline re notice jibes with most other schools.

Grueling!

Good luck!!

I agree. I plan on asking the professor who contacted me about the interview at UCSB, what I should bring and how I should best prepare. So far, I plan on bringing documentation of finished work and work-in-progress from what I've accomplished since my application and perhaps a list of questions I have regarding curriculum, funding, what alumni have been up to, etc.

is anyone else going to the OSU MFA visitation day on the 19th?

Did you hear back from them about anything yet? After phone interviews for Drawing and Painting I was told that they'd notify people "soon" but that was over 3 weeks ago now, so I am assuming they already notified the accepted people.

Hey, I actually made an account on here only because I saw your question and knew I'd seen this information before, and had to share. You'll find the information on each department's requirements on page 53 of this pdf (typed out as 51 in the document, but labeled as 53 in the search page function). For sculpture, it seems that they account the difficulty of transport and require only photo documentation. Hope this is helpful for you and others!

nothing official yet. I had an informal chat with one of the sculpture faculty members a couple of weeks ago, and then today I received an invitation to come to the visitation day. it doesn't say anywhere in the email I received whether this invitation has been extended to all applicants or just those who'd advanced to a certain stage in the process. if/when I hear anything more, I will let you know. in the meantime, good luck to you!

Okay, maybe I'm crazy, but it looks like the wording on Austin's page has changed a bit.  It now says, "Your file has been forwarded to the Graduate Committee for review. Each individual graduate program sets its own schedule for reviewing application files. You should consult the graduate coordinator in the program to which you have applied to determine when decisions will be made." and I think before it just said "Your application is in review." or something.  Am I losing it or what? omg I can't take the waiting knowing that other departments have already heard from Austin! Come on, painting!! I gotta know! Ahhhhhh freak out!!
