  1. I actually tend to choose my undergrad classes based on the book selection, so I never end up selling them back. As a result, I have far too many books.
  2. In your situation, with your commitments, I would place more emphasis on schedule flexibility.
  3. I think your best bet is a terminal MA. There's some funding out there and, perhaps more importantly, your PhD application will thank you for it.

  6. Quote from article: "Don't abolish tenure altogether, says Trower. Just rework it. Create a tenure track that explicitly rewards teaching." From my perspective, this is pivotal, and, I would think, would be welcomed by academia as well.

  8. This may or may not have made me laugh for longer than socially acceptable.
  9. Got this in a YDS mass email: "This fall Yale Divinity School will be partnering with our colleagues from Harvard Divinity School, University of Chicago, and Candler School of Theology at Emory University for several joint information sessions. The first will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the National Press Club in Washington, DC! (Note: Representatives from the University of Chicago Divinity School are unable to attend the DC event) The second will be held on Monday, October 4, 2010 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Thomas W Cole Research Center for Science and Technology on the campus of Clark Atlanta University, Atlanta, GA. We hope to also offer similar events in Chicago, LA, and perhaps the Bay Area, too. Electronic invitations complete with a link through which to sign up for these events will be coming soon to an inbox near you! Also, please see below for a list of important dates! " Personally, it sounds like a good deal. I'll be making the 3 hour trip to ATL. Anyone else from this board down? -CBF+pwn
  10. I'm one of those unfortunate souls who love books in their hands or at least paper. I can't concentrate or take in information nearly as well on devices.
  11. I know that I would betotally distracted by it, lol.
  12. I'd definitely think you've got a shot, but at that level with the ISM and YDS, you're dealing with some elements that lie necessarily out of your control (*cough* luck *cough*). It's definitely worth your time. Unfortunately, I don't know about Union or Rice's programs in this department.
  13. I would definitely re-take them again, trying to get above 700 on your Verbal. You don't want to be discounted at any programs because of your GRE score.
  14. This guy sounds like a pro.
  15. I'd say that if you have a macbook or desktop of some sort it would be a viable option for day to day grad-life, but I don't think it's at the point where it can be a viable replacement for either a macbook or a desktop.
  16. Thank you! I just bookmarked it, and plan to use it profusely this coming year.
  17. Thanks for the input! That sounds like a good way to get such a positive LoR in my application.
  18. Oh well, consensus is damning. Thanks for your input, all.
  19. Wow, that's enlightening. I had hoped that the reverse would be true, but I feared it would be as you say.
  20. Hey guys, I'm in a situation where the professor I took two classes from this year, formed a close personal relationship with, and was the most successful student of both said classes is a lecturer. He was only going to be there for the year and has since taken another position at another university. He knows me exceedingly well and was committed to working with me all year, and would write an absolutely GLOWING LoR. He also has a PhD from an Ivy League institution in my field, but is just not a tenure-track professor. Is he a good option or should I look for other options? Any opinions are appreciated!
  21. wants to go to HDS...
