@Schatzie15 is a car necessary in Dallas? My cousin drove there last year and said it was a nightmare and the road rage just made everything worse. She even said that some of her classmates told her not to mess with drivers in Dallas because of the greater likelihood of ending up being shot.

Thanks everybody for the advice. In response to the above I'm originally from WA but moved to NY state for college. I forgot to mention a school in Arizona was in the choices too. I visited AZ last June...almost passed out with the heat. I've never sweated that much in my entire life. I just wasn't feeling well, swollen hands and overall fatigue with the heat (I was hydrated mind you). I hope TX is not that bad?

Thank you so much! This just goes to show that you should NEVER give up! I wish the best to other applicants with low stats

I hate to sound bitter. But in my own experience, I can say that a majority of the schools are really hung up on those two scores that start with "G". Last year, my school's pres. of NSSHLA who presented at the ASHA conference got rejected from all schools simply because her scores were average. On the other hand, there was another girl who wasn't really involved anything but had a 4.0 and high GRE scores, who got in with some funding offers. Is it unfair? TOTALLY! But there's a part of me that believes that people like us ( lower scores) will be amazing SLPs someday. We just need the right school to appreciate us.

So is anyone else getting really frustrated when many people are posting about trying to decide between which school to go to? I'm really glad they have that option but it sucks whenever rejections keep rolling in. :/

In a way yes, but it is a sign that the school is really taking their time and not fishing their applicants by 4.0s and 160s.

It's not all about stats. They probably had more experience / better LOR's / statement of purpose. People who think they deserve acceptance to programs because of "better stats " ? Now that's what "bugs me" . Stats don't tell you how good you'll be in a certain career. Just sayin. ?

Then in all honesty, I have no idea why math scores are so important when looking at applicants. No idea

WHAT DO THESE SCHOOLS WANT?  You could literally be the president of the U.S. and still get rejected.

I really hope so. I'm still checking for e-mails for MGH. I think last year they sent them out at 6pm to check the portal. Might as well get the bad news done with in one sitting, and console myself over nutella and a cinnamon bun.

I would also love feedback on NYU, I've read very mixed reviews on the program. Also interested in reviews on MGH!

That was really helpful! Thanks! All I've heard about Syracuse was that it snows a lot there (wasn't really helpful)  I heard students were placed in NYC for practicum though.

Hey! I will PM you on the weekend. It just has to do with something I heard about how they unfairly select their applicants and the overall atmosphere once you get there. Again, I haven't personally experienced these from them but it's what I've heard from past applicants and students.

UT Austin really emphasized the holistic approach, I'm hoping they mean what they say.

I know, first it's the anxiety of waiting for a decision and then getting a rejection is a whole different misery itself. It's. not. fair.

I'd like to believe that there are some schools out there who see their applicants as people and not decimals and percentiles. The truth is when you become an SLP your clients want to know how you can help them not your GRE scores and last 60 GPA. To those with lower stats, please don't give up.

Maybe, but it's also still early in the admissions process. Maybe at this point they're just accepting the higher stats, but will move to accepting people with more average scores. Last year they sent out acceptances through late March/early April.

Well, then I guess it's really just hoping for the best.
In-state students were mentioned, but how do state schools value out-of-state applicants? I would think that since tuition costs more, it would play a part in the decision. Or do they generally prefer in-state applicants?
