Buying vs. Renting during Grad School

Oh yikes, I should clarify Cornell is NOT like that (hallelujah!), but many other top schools are unfortunately. It's one of the many reasons I decided to go to Cornell. -
Buying vs. Renting during Grad School

For what it's worth, I was explicitly told by every advisor I've spoken to that graduate students should rent instead of buy. At least in my program, 2/3 of students will be kicked out, and you don't want to be stuck with a mortgage, so consider that. -
Woohoo! Picking out a place is kind of fun, right? Are you going to have roommates? I'm moving in 2.5 weeks and the thought of packing everything up is so sad... plus, I found out that my advisor won't be at my graduation since he'll be in Germany. I'm much more sad than I care to admit... normally, the professors for your department line up and you shake their hand after getting your diploma, I was going to give him a big bear hug. Fortunately I have two advisors, maybe the other will be there I'm kind of worried about adjusting to a different professor-student dynamic. One of the students who graduated from here a few years ago gave me an exhaustive list of all the things he tried to do that apparently weren't normal at the new place. Do most students usually not grab drinks with their professor after an exam? Or call them for a ride to the airport?

So I'm dying my hair back to brown... I have to teach a class in 7 hours, this is my second attempt, and I just found out that the hair dye I have on my hair right now has coconut oil in it, and guess who's allergic to coconut oil? So my whole head is red and burning, but I'm leaving the dye on just so that my hair isn't a pukey green in a few hours... Someone kill me!

Oh man, that sounds like a horrible situation... Sorry!

Why not? There are plenty of sedatives available for pets for exactly this purpose.

I thought I was doing so well financially... reserved a U-Haul, bought a cat tree (for the cats I don't even have yet, hahaha), took a long trip to use my telescope, etc. etc. etc.... and then today I got an email saying I forgot to pay rent. Seriously, I can't believe they let people like me be adults??

That's neat @Neist, a community garden plot is a brilliant idea. I just have a 2'x2' area filled with concrete that they call a patio

HP's Instant Ink program has saved my butt... it's $3 a month to print 50 pages (that can roll over) a month, and after that it's $1 per set of 15 pages (or you can buy a bigger plan), and they mail you unlimited ink. It's the best.
