A few places are starting to if last year is any indication: Baylor University (has a preview weekend), Cambridge University (HPS), Central European University, DePaul University, Pennsylvania State University, University of California, Irvine (LPS), University of Iowa, and Villanova University look like they've down Skype interviews in the past.

@The_Last_Thylacine do you know what day? I'm running the google sheet this year that's tracking everything and I want to keep it up to date but haven't seen that posted yet.

Someone I know got an acceptance email from Michigan State on Sunday. It's a bit earlier than MSU usually goes, but they have sent out fellowship offers mid/late January in past years.

Are language courses covered by Phd or funded masters program?
MtnDuck replied to UndergradDad's topic in Philosophy
I was at a funded MA program and took both German and Spanish while I was there. A few other folks took language courses as well. At my current program languages are also covered by tuition so long as you a) meet the department requirements for enrollment should there be any (e.g., my current program requires 10 credits of philosophy/quarter) and b) don't exceed the university cap on credit hours (e.g., at my MA I couldn't go over 18 credit hours a semester but could take non-department courses as long as I stayed below that number). I think in general you can take what you want (within reason) so long as you meet department requirements and don't go over on credit hours. Depending on what programs you're looking at, it's possible that you can find a copy of their graduate handbook on their websites and see if they have a "language" section in their handbooks. -
Given that the old wordpress site from two years ago isn't being updated, I've created a google doc that consolidates the acceptance, waitlist, and rejection information for PhD and Master's programs. I'm probably missing some from both still and will edit it when possible. You can view the google doc here (http://bit.ly/PhilAdm) and comment if anything seems wrong/is missing. I don't expect to really start updating it until next month, but once the emails, letters, and phone calls start rolling I'll update it to keep us all in the loop.

Finally got a no from UNC

My roommate (isn't on here) just turned down funded offers from UPenn, Georgetown, and turned down Cornell earlier this week. Mostly works on feminist philosophy and social/political.
-
Fabulous, thanks for sharing! Historically I've been interested in food ethics (mostly pet food tbh), epistemic injustice at the intersection of feminism/bioethics/Phil race, and philosophy of liberation (social movements, solidarity, respect for alterity).

By UW I take it you mean UW Seattle based on your post history? If so, I've accepted there and I know of one other person as well. What are your areas if you don't mind me asking?

Final Decisions / Accepting Offers Fall 2018!
MtnDuck replied to SlumberingTrout's topic in Philosophy
I've accepted University of Washington Seattle. I've also removed myself from the waitlists for UC-Davis and UVA. Don't know if that will help folks, but at least if I would have gotten an offer they can go straight on to the next person without delay. -
Explicitly, no. But it did sound like everyone who was initially offered was visiting (which was four of us) and at no point was anyone else mentioned as not being able to visit, someone else we should know about who might be a future colleague in the program, etc. :/
-
I'm one of the folks with an offer from UW-Seattle. I'm probably going to be accepting by the end of the week at the latest (I'm waitlisted at a few places but I think I'd still pick UW over the other places). I believe that they're aiming for a cohort of 4(?) and I think at least one other person from the folks that visited will accept their offer. I'm not sure about the other two folks since I know they had offers elsewhere as well.
-
Also waitlisted at UVA right after my roommate turned them down.
-
Congrats! Just so you know, a number of people who are initially waitlisted for funding end up receiving it. I think that for my year over half of the people originally had no funding and I know that a few of the first years were originally on the waitlist (we tend to shuffle through a few people on the waitlist every year). If you're really interested in VT (or anyone else who was waitlisted for funding) I can send along other funding options that I know about. The DGS also sometimes tries to help people find things.

Current VT student here-- a couple grad students talked about this yesterday. Our DGS is currently away at a conference so we think that may be part of the delay. This was also a hiring year for us and last time that happened nothing went out until after the 20th (of March...so we're still later than even that) so that's also part of the delay possibly.

I have! I think one of the professors at my undergrad (not in phil but worked with the three food ethicists in the phil department...we were a bit heavy on food ethics) published in it at one point. I haven't kept up with it as much as I should have though :/
-
I'm currently at VT so if you have any questions feel free to let me know! We just hired someone who is phil sci but I don't think we've made an official announcement yet (but I can PM you more about that if you want).

I am mostly interested in ethics (food ethics, pet food, normativity), epistemology (feminist epistemology, testimony), and social/political philosophy (philosophy of liberation, systems of justice) and I said so in my statement. So, I don't know what AOI they stuck me under to be honest! Probably *not* mind though If I ended up going there I'd be interested in possibly working with Oshana, Rulli, or maybe even Copp. I'm leaning towards a different school at the moment though.
-
My roommate found out about Cornell before getting the official email.
-
Yes, sorry didn't see this earlier. From the email I received it seems like they do admissions based on AOI and the list is unranked as @Halcyon23 said. But Dr.Gilmore also said something about letting folks know their rank on the waitlist when they do start pulling from it (but this could also mean that they will break things into several AOI lists and then have ranks within those lists). *shrugs*

Syracuse called one of my colleagues to let them know they were accepted. So, I guess that means they should be rolling acceptances out to other folks soonish.
-
I'm with you on that. I managed to never hit submit on my Arizona one somehow...
