  1. My undergraduate program covered all of these pre-recs
  2. I did! I was able to take the MAT at my undergraduate university. I did much better on the MAT than the GRE. The only school I applied to that accepted it was Gallaudet University.
  3. I finished my bachelors degree in 3 years, as did another girl in my undergrad program. It isn't going to be a game changer but it certainly doesn't hurt your application. I still had 100+ hours of research, all of my observation hours, and 7 clinical hours by graduation and having an extra year would not have helped me gain any more experiences due to how my undergrad program was designed. I don't recommend graduating early without talking to your CSD advisor first. They can look at you as a whole and determine if you are a good candidate to graduate/apply early.
  4. A masters is the entry level degree in our field, so I guess they supplement the work experience for GPA.
  5. In the SLP/A field a 3.5 isn't considered competitive. Although I have no authority on the matter, I'd say a 3.7 would be considered competitive. Speech Pathology graduate school is extremely competitive, 300-400 applications for 20-30 positions is typical. This was record year for applicants as well. I don't mean to be belittling or anything, I just noticed you're in a different field and I'm not sure if you're familiar with speech =)
  6. It depends what type of therapy you want to work in. Would you rather help children develop fine motor skills, or help them communicate? I went into speech because I think the most important part of the human existence is the ability to communicate. I wouldn't feel like I am making as much of a difference in a child's life if I were in OT or PT (Not to say these fields are amazing and extremely important, they just aren't for me.)
  7. I mean this in the most polite, sincere, and kind-hearted place I physically can. However you have a relatively low GPA for this field. Your verbal GRE score is the 37th percentile; math 8th and writing 38th. Having a lower GPA and GRE scores really damages your application. You have great extra curriculars, but that also never enough to balance both lower GPA and GRE scores. In this field most schools look for a percentile score of 50th across all sections. Anything under 40th is concerning, while I've been told anything under 30th is a red flag. I don't know if programs like Magoosh will be enough to raise your score enough, and you might want to bite the bullet and pay for a professional prep class. Also, the ETS websites has all of the verbal and quanitative concepts covered. Here are the links to those PDFs/sites: Math: https://www.ets.org/s/gre/pdf/gre_math_review.pdf Verbal: https://www.ets.org/gre/revised_general/prepare/verbal_reasoning/ Here are a list of all of the possible essays: https://www.ets.org/gre/revised_general/prepare/analytical_writing/issue/pool https://www.ets.org/gre/revised_general/prepare/analytical_writing/argument/pool I think that boosting your GREs and making sure your personal statement is drop dead amazing! Also, if you find the GRE isn't a test that you are comparable with check out the Millers Analogy Test or MAT. It's another test that I did significantly better on. There is a chance you could too! There are several programs that accept MAT scores in place of the GRE. Gallaudet, Wichita State, and the University of Rhode Island are just a few schools that take the MAT. I'm sure there are more. I'm sure adding more to your resume will help, but I have a feeling it's the GRE scores that are killing you. Best of luck!
  8. Accreditation is essential. However, there are many reasons a program is put on probation. Some are as silly as not updating their website, others as serious as lack of faculty competency. I looked up their reason for being placed on probation; they didn't put the phone number to CAA on their website. I would have no qualms attending this program
  9. If you did not receive an interview, its essentially a rejection. You aren't the first person to have gotten that email without an interview though.
  10. I am an undergraduate student in the SPA program at WVU. Did you get an interview? If so and you got an email saying your application is under active consideration you are on the waitlist. WVU has sent out acceptances.
  11. The MAT is the Millers Analogies Test. It's $100 and takes an hour. You answer 120 questions which are in the form of analogies, ex. A is to B as C is to D. Gallaudet was the only school I applied to that accepted the MAT. Other schools do as well, South Carolina State, Valdosta, and a few more. The MAT is a far more accurate measure of graduate school success, faster, and cheaper than the GRE. Gallaudet is private so it's the same price for everyone. Tuition alone is almost $16k but with added fees I'll be paying around 18k with the fees minus room and board. I refuse to live in a dorm again, I'll lose my mind if I don't have my own bathroom or a kitchen to use. My parents actually live outside of DC so I am playing with the idea if moving back home and commuting.
  12. You are not. It's the one thing I highly dislike about this field. It's really embarrassing.
  13. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any programs that are as positive about ASL as Gallaudet. I'm not even sure if there is one! Their website has a lot of great information though. They have a list and description of all the classes that are required. I applied because of my love for Aural (Re)hab, and my dedication to the preservation of ASL and Deaf culture. (Minor side rant: I hate how all of our programs teach "cultural sensitivity" but completely disregard and disrespect Deaf culture. It's bizarre and frustrating.) Their program is in the SLCC building and it is the most beautiful speech clinic I've seen at a institution. The facilities have the newest technology and everyone I met when I visited was amazingly kind. I can't say enough good things. I may be biased, but this is the best program out there for people wanting to work with the d/Deaf or Hard of Hearing populations. I was accepted into the program for this fall as well. I have my GPA and MAT scores listed below. I didn't disclose my GRE scores to Gallaudet because my MAT score was far higher and they accepted it. Gallaudet doesn't have a limit to how long your personal statement can be. Mine was around 6 pages. This was a huge plus for me because I didn't feel like I could express myself nearly as well in 500 words or two pages. I also really liked that they didn't use CSDCAS, their online application was simple to use and I never had an issue with them losing apart of my application. If you have any other questions just let me know! Best of luck!!!
  14. I got into the masters program for speech pathology at Gallaudet! I'm debating what to do with living arrangements. I could live with my parents, since they live 20mins out of DC; however, I don't know how I feel about that! I'm from the area and the Metro, our subway system, is pretty reliable. There is at least one stop at the GWU campus that I can recall. I can't speak about the bus system though. Public transportation is functional in DC, not no where near as good as a place like South Korea
  15. Here's the link to the Gallaudet FB group! https://www.facebook.com/groups/1690338364573323/
  16. Verbal reasoning: 148-152 Quantitative reasoning: 145-148 Analytical writing: 3.0 - 4.5 GPA: 2.8 - 3.7 For Hampton Verbal reasoning: 140-158 Analytical writing: 3.0-4.0 For UDC GRE: GRE: GPA: 3.0-3.8 These are from ASHA Edfind. I couldn't find any other information on their websites. Good luck!
  17. I only applied to three schools, but I knew where I wanted to go as well. I've been wanting to go to Gallaudet for grad school since I was accepted into my undergrad program!
  18. I just committed to Gallaudet! I see no reason to wait on other schools when I have already been accepted into my first choice. It seems silly.
