is it that bad? I don't know much about the climate on the campus. well the department has a large criticaliving mass of women color, hopefully they support each other when things are rough.
-
Thanks and yeah I know it's not perfect but boy I really liked the scholars there. here I was thinking I would be in American studies and I am getting more love from Communication lol. I did speak to a student and was told that his entire cohort was on the wait list so it is possible folks wont go. I have hope we can get on that wait list lol.
-
Anyone else apply to Michigan? the board has that they were two admits yesterday. the first program that will hurt me to get that rejection. Let me pray for this waitlist situation.

yep, I never considered it before. I never took a class in undergrad. After being out of school for a while I took an intro public speaking class. The professor used a lot of Comm theory and I realized it could give me my Cultural studies backed by social science optic that I really wanted to use that I could not really find in Soc or American Geography. In England, cultural studies is infused in the social sciences thanks to Stuart Hall. In America not so much, we are empiricist to the dire end lol.- 733 replies

Yeah it is for some disciplines. I applied across three disciplines. Right now Comm loves me the most but African American studies ain't showing me no love. I received a nice rejection from Cornell a bit later after the interview email. So it balanced out today. And thanks I appreciate it. You have been racking up yourself.- 733 replies

Sorry to hear that. I have two rejections after the first one the sting is less but if UNC chap was a top choice than I can imagine it hurts. So far what school likes me vs which ones dont has been super random. I just pray one of my top 2 likes me lol

I have no background in Comm either. I have a social science background. I basically have loads of coursework in Geography and Sociology with a bit in Anthro. I know for me comm folks have said they just like my topic. I think you still have a very good chance.Keep the faith. Positive thinking is good but I do understand the anxiety.- 733 replies

Haha thanks for info and yes this adds a new layer to grad school admissions. It wasn't always like this. I will say one thing at least UPenn doesn't do this lol. Also, interviews come at different times for different tracks lol.- 733 replies

2017 Applications Thread

Strategic ignorance can save your life so I will do that in a heartbeat. Your topic sounds cool. My work involves understanding racialized and gender narratives in popular culture and how they become inscribed in places and bodies, what mechanisms root them or make them valid knowledge over other notions or ideas. I am interested in the longevity of narratives and how these abstracts shape embodied encounters more broadly. And maybe we will at Madison- so far this is my first admittance so or we also might cross paths at a conference. I plan to span the disciplines regardless of what program I end up in.- 733 replies

I have noticed it being so horrible, don't remember it being this bad last year. Some of the comments are horrible but the kicker is, faculty know about this page and folks are not stupid. they can put 1 and 1 together many times. It also doesn't do anything for you in the long run. Also I have always had a bit of hard science envy but the hard sciences folks are way more neurotic than the humanities and social sciences by far. Those comments and questioning people admissions rather than going to their section just drives me a little crazy.

Just wanted to update folks.. So thus far I have been dinged by one Communication program, I have been waitlisted by Minnesota and I have been admitted into another Communications program. Feb is off to an interesting start. I wish everyone the best, especially those who are waiting for that first admission. it definitely helped with my anxiety level.
