    Good Luck with Harvard. I ended up not applying because I mixed up the dates. I did talk to a student there and she gave me a pretty favorable impression of the program. All but one of my non AMST programs have gotten back to me so now I am just waiting for the slow American studies programs lol.

    I am done. I got my rejection from Upenn today. So all of my comm programs are over. I am very happy with 2 for 2. Now I have to wait for my American Studies results which are not as great with 1 waitlist and 1 rejection lol.

    thanks good to know where I stand unofficially with them. I tried to apply to Berkeley ethnic studies but was pushed toward African American studies by a prof in ethnic studies just to get a big rejection too.

    @phdthoughtsCongrats!!! thats how my season started with a waitlist.. I definitely hope March moves faster than Feb because everything has become secondary to this process in my life.

    Yep Monday things always start things off. They love those emails at the end of the day that you have to respond back to asap lol. I am ducking this Thursday by taking off because last Thursday was a dang mess for me.

    I would contact programs and faculty of interest folks even if u think it might not be a fit to gauge their interests. Having no background myself I kind of tried to do that and sometimes it works other times it wasn't successful. But based on what little I know about Comm programs I think you might have fit with U of Michigan, Minnesota, maybe U Mass Amherst, UNC Chapel Hill, Madison, Iowa, UT Austin American studies folks are very very nice I would study that program to see if you have any POI's, BU has a new emerging Media PhD and Maryland Amst has a professor who is into digital stuff I think u should check him out. I know folks love Browns Media program as well.

    I attended USC a few years ago but biking happens there, many professors I knew did it but you have to be careful of drivers. The southeast, and Columbia especially, is a car dominant city. Public transit is not a thing. I never took the bus outside of the campus shuttles my entire time there. Yeah USC is downtown and it's not flat like most of the geography in Columbia. For instance, as you go away from the center of campus to the gym its an incline so coming up it's a steep hill. I hated walking up on days when I was running late. Now if you live behind the campus its not issue So if you are east you are fine but if you are west that's where the uphill battle is.

    How many more programs do you and your partner have to hear from? Compared to past cycles long ago when I did it for the MA I didn't got the most of my news until Feb and March, so this has been kind of early for me but I guess with this new system of interviews it has to be.

    @phdthoughts Sorry to hear of your situation. How many programs did you apply to? Did you happen to contact anyone before hand? If so maybe you can ask them something. In a past cycle, I had one program not reject me until after April 15 and I later learned it was in fighting between faculty about my application so that caused the late notice.

    When it hits you that you should have applied to the communication program rather than the American studies program at a school that was at the top of your list and you just have to live with that rejection because you know it's really about fit lol.

    So anything new on the American studies front? Almost all of my non-American studies programs have replied back and I have only so far heard back from 2 American Studies programs. I know that many applied to Yale and Brown. But what about Boston Unversity, Kansas, and the George Washington University? Still kicking myself I didn't apply to Austin and low-key sad I didn't apply to Harvard even though I know that would have been a TKO reject lol.

    Great situation to be in. You could actually go through the skype interview without any pressure and use it as a way to network. But if you really would rather not, then you can let the faculty member know how much you appreciate the invitation but you have been admitted to a program that you feel is a better intellectual fit for you and you wanted to let them know so that perhaps this could open up an opportunity for another scholar to get an interview.     Of course, we have to situate all of this in the introduction lol .. This is cross-disciplinary and we gotta cover all the bases lol

    Lets do a vampire (anthology). I want to write about The Vampire Diaries and examine blackness and magic through that popular cultural optic. You can add Teen Wolf, the Originals, Supernatural, Lucifer, True Blood, etc.

    Well instead of cutting back on students some of the no productive folks could retire. But you know that's just me, I am definitely going to advocate for the young and make sure I work a career that is mindful of that.

    @NoirFemme I just dont know what that means for Brown and Yale. Minn liked me but so far mostly Communication are into my profile while all of Black Studies aint about me at all which is not that surprising since I haven't taken any black studies courses so I am trying to figure a pattern but it doesn't seem to be one. LOL. I still so many programs to hear back from so it's like damn.. And I know at the end of the month its either gonna be good or like today a TKO lol. Thursday have been rejection days for me so let I am gonna dodge the 16 and 23 something fierce.

    Haha yeah but I am good. Stony Brook is good and it's close enough to NYC to still have fun and explore on the weekends. And the cultural studies program sounds so great. If u go get that certificate in that. I just drool at their class offerings.

    It was emailed. FOlks were waitlisted too today but maybe you are on the waitlist. One student, I talked with said they kept a waitlist. Keep up hope and good luck.

    Thanks but I am good. I love Michigan but it's not to be heck I might just have to get a job there in a few years. It just was a double rejection day. All my rejections but one have come on Thursday so I am kind of avoiding them now lol. My first rejection was on a Thursday via email, then the same school mailed it to me and it came again on a Thursday( I was like damn I got the email no need to put the salt in my wound lol) now today with two more lol. But tomorrow is Friday which I have gotten admitted on so I am hoping that prevailing trend happens again. So do you still have lots of programs to hear back from? Because I applied to so many I still have a bunch but most of my December ones are done now thankfully. I have two more December dates that I am waiting on.

    I got that TKO from Michigan today. This one actually stung a but thank god I have got into a program before I received this one. And good luck everyone it seems as rejections are on these terrible Thursdays lol. Next Thursday I might need to take the day off lol.
