  1. I'm not gonna lie. I just got my first rejection and it's not easy. I received a generic email from someone I'd never heard of at University of Michigan: The Educational Studies admissions committee at the University of Michigan, School of Education recently reviewed your application for admission to our doctoral program. Unfortunately, the admissions committee cannot offer you admission at this time. The committee reviewed a great many applications from well-qualified individuals and had to make difficult choices. In its deliberations, the committee took into account your professional experiences, prior academic performance, and the fit between your interests and goals and our programs of study. We wish you the best in your academic pursuits and future career. Whomp whomp. It wasn't at the top of my list but rejection hurts, nonetheless. Anyone else feeling the burn? 2a/0w/1r/5??
  2. I know, right?! My guess is that they're from a different program than I, but that does not much to satisfy my anxiety. At least I know I'm not the only one, @PhDinEdu
  3. I see a few rejections and waitlists for University of Michigan on the results board. Did anyone actually get in? So far I have heard nothing myself...
  4. @victoriaaa It's got a stellar reputation, for sure. Doing a happy dance for ya!
  5. So happy to find you all! Approaching 40 here, two young children, and both exhilarated and terrified of leaving the world of work and salary for a new town and poverty. Last time I was in grad school, I was young, with no ties, and I didn't think twice! Now there are so many factors and complications. I always wanted a PhD and then all of a sudden I realized it had better be soon or it may be too late. Several mentors in their 50's and 60's have told me that not pursuing one is their biggest regret, so I take solace in that.
  6. @nm2016 Yes totally appreciate that!
  7. SHIPS & RILE I did not attempt POI contact, something I now regret. @forgetful26 How about you?
  8. Congrats! Good news is always welcomed on this board, regardless of geography.
  9. Johns Hopkins has an online EdD, I believe.
  10. @DBear Congratulations! I'm glad you figured out how to handle your dilemma. I'm always so appreciative of the advice of more experienced students on here. @fuzzylogician, I believe that if you have not been to graduate school, it's hard to understand how close knit the scholar community is, and how your name gets out there. I have learned this from my friends who are professors and post-docs. Right now, going through admissions, I feel fairly anonymous and unknown. It only occurred to me quite recently that any schools that reject me, and those I decline as well, will still be in my orbit. And by "occurred to me" I mean that I imagined myself as a rock star scholar in six years, and the Ivy League faculty who did not return my emails or invite me to interviews shaking their heads and thinking, "Oh, we sure missed out not accepting hopefulyphD2017."
  11. Congratulations @nashville! That's awesome news. Thanks for coming out of the shadows to share.
  12. All true but I prefer my anxious waiting with conversation, speculation, and trivia sprinkled in, you know?
  13. @tgcaccount I contacted admissions earlier this week and they confirmed that, yes, all PhD weekend invites have gone out as posters above already stated. Guess I just needed to hear it directly myself. Ouch. I hate not being invited to the party! Always did.
  14. I have always wondered this. LiveJournal! I forgot about that. Things change quickly online. Great thread.
  15. I don't include my scores because I want to remain anonymous. I feel kind of like I'm betraying the trust of adcoms by posting. I'm probably too sensitive!
  16. I don't but it sounds like an awesome program. Good luck! Stanford GSE thread eerily quiet. One interview on results board so far.
  17. Wow so happy to hear good news! Congrats to @higheredbee and @rockrmoose both. @PhDinEdu I'm also waiting on Michigan's ed program.
  18. @tgcaccount Thank you for posting to help me feel not so alone! You may now go back to lurking...
  19. Have any other PhD applicants heard anything from Penn? Besides the one quant poster, I haven't seen or heard anything. Policy program applicants? Anything?
  20. Thanks! Leadership. Do you mean in terms of GPA? I'm not sure I understand your question. I taught for a number of years before getting my EdM, if that's what you mean. Others in my program had 2-10 years or so of work experience.
  21. With a similar resume and lower scores, I was accepted into the following EdM programs: TC, Penn, Michigan, and Ohio State. This was several years ago, am going for a PhD now, but I was accepted everywhere I applied to and my guess is you will be, as well. Best of luck!
  22. Hi @Plane_Jane you're in good company!! Welcome and congrats!
  23. I did not check that box, as I already have an EdM. And an MA
  24. Ha. I wonder what'll be under that Scooby Mask.
