  1. Congrats @PirateJenny! I have gotten much better responses on the phone. Have you tried calling instead of emailing?
  2. I have no idea, you're our insider. ? I think if you called they'd be happy to share that information with you, and if they happen to give you a time those invites are going out, report back please!
  3. Great question @abnumber5 I have tried to go with the flow and listen as much as I talk, but I get incredibly self-conscious. I almost feel star struck. As they're talking about Amazing U and Amazing Prof, I am thinking, "Eek! This sounds amazing! I want to go right now! Oh Geez I hope I'm not screwing this up because it sounds amazing!" And so on the hamster wheel goes. So I end up saying, "Hmm that sounds interesting!" "Cool" etc and I feel dumb about that too. Any advice @fuzzylogician on what to say after Awesome Prof shares something about his work that doesn't sound childish, pandering, or inane? ?

  5. This is a great question @socrate4se Have you gone back and re-read the threads from your schools from previous years? I found them very enlightening. I feel pretty confident now that the answer to your question, for my schools at least, is that they are representative, yes. But there are exceptions.
  6. But more of a welcome distraction

  8. I really regret not setting up a separate email for grad applications. Such a good idea!
  9. I applied to the PhD not EdLD, but I just want to say we all have a thing that we worry about (or many things, ha). Mine is that I'm older than the average graduate student, and while I think my experience is an asset, it may not be seen that way by ad comms. I don't know! It's scary putting yourself out there, yet I do believe there is no "ideal grad student." I also think the good people in admissions and on committees know what they're doing and are seeking a sense of fit curiosity, and work ethic, and will see past our particular warts. But I'll believe that more when I get into my top choices.
  10. Yes, the only pattern that's clear is that I'M STILL WAITING
  11. @day_manderly indeed. I thought we would've heard a bit more last week but I think you're right--this is the week. Based on past results, over half of my programs should send out interview invitations or acceptances this week.
  12. Congratulations @Caballita9287

  14. As if I wasn't constantly refreshing my email! Argh!!
  15. Hi @mr_r it speaks highly of the program that you're reapplying! Good luck and if you have any inside intel, don't be shy.
  16. We're all entitled to a little intrigue during this waiting game
  17. Congrats!! That's wonderful. Seems like short notice but maybe it's less time to stress. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
  18. Since only one person on here has heard from LPO I'm not willing to phone it in just yet. But it is frustrating going into a holiday weekend, @Espeon I hear you!
  19. @OutdoorsEd I know, right? I'm not sure what will change on the site--I'm guessing where it says "submitted" it will change to "decision" or such? @Espeon nothing on my end.
  20. @easteregg I figured you were one of us, waiting as well.
  21. @easteregg Fair point. Did you drop in to share extra special intel with us, as an insider employee? Kidding. Sort of.

  23. I'm so glad we're talking about this. @wet gremlin I'm with you, I've lived with imposter syndrome long enough. I don't have regrets, per se, but oh, how I wish I could go back in time and believe in myself a little more! Sometimes I think I'll feel so crushed when I get my first rejection. But then I think about John McCain and HRC and ALL of the many jobs I've never gotten and realize that we will make it through. And that everything works out the way it's supposed to. Etc. That being said, please, please send me an acceptance soon!

  25. Right, of course, they're only human! And herein lies the rub of GradCafe: I'm enjoying the fellowship and am glad I know others in the same boat, but if I didn't know someone had already gotten a call, I wouldn't be as anxious as I am now. Wait, actually, I was fairly anxious before. But now it's more pointed.
