    Only one of my acceptance calls has been during actual business hours — most have been in the evening. One even came around 8 pm on Valentine's Day. You never know.

    Around 4 slots (as far as I know?). Not sure if everyone was notified at the same time or if all decisions have been made. The call came at night — for some reason I think that might be important in terms of figuring out where they are in the process and how things are going? But I'm not sure what it means.

    Did your contact give you a time estimate? My person said 10 minutes which I assume isn't enought time to destroy me with "gotcha" questions. But definitely review your SoP if you're like me and pitched different angles of your interest areas to different programs. Look at their work again. Review your CV. SMILE (if you can). My current program x-ed a candidate after an interview because they said (among other things) that she didn't seem that interested and also seemed ... very sour. Don't be sour (you know that already!). There's a list of the most common interview questions floating around these forums somewhere. That might hold actual advice that you can actually use ...

    A professor at NYU. Where I also study. This is not to lead you astray with "false premises" - I'm just serving up information as more or less received.

    A very reputable face-to-face source told me that NYU isn't even close to finalizing things. I wouldn't necessarily cross them off your list yet.

    Film and Media. It looks like the first round of results are in for the most part. I think?

    I managed to steal one of those Berkeley acceptances. The weak thing about site-check/letters vs. phone calls is that letters can't accidentally give you inside information that would be useful for people still waiting (or even useful to you like, "We are seriously broke" or "Doane just quit tonight," for example). Based on a conversation with someone who onced worked in admissions at Berkeley, most acceptances might go out all in one day with a spot or two still in question. But it may be different from year-to-year. It's pretty unlikely that I'm going to end up there so, to anyone that ends up waitlisted, there's a good chance another spot will open up.

    Berkeley made "double-check" and "more information" calls/emails this week and last so I assume results will be in next week. That would certainly be in keeping with their pattern over the years (at least as far as the Results Survey is concerned). Still not soon enough.

    @KTan Both? Unofficial early last week, confirmed at the start of this week via POI and admin. I'd echo advice elsewhere and say play it cool with professor contact at this point. I've talked to a few profs in my department about it and their advice on contact in general was ... all over the place. But all felt that after apps are in, it's time to let go. I contacted no one in advance. My dept and some of my letter writers are well known in the programs I applied to so I'm relying on that and the "strength" of my jibber jabber to do the work, for better or for worse.

    Sorry - my message was totally vague. Finishing an MA this spring, starting a PhD in the fall. Thus far, USC CS is my only official acceptance.

    I had no previous contact with anyone in the department until last week and was admitted. It is far, far too early to give up hope. The adcom slugfest/negotiation has only just begun.
