different countries have different accreditations for clinical psychology. APA does not necessarily allow you to practice in other countries (i.e., APA does not allow you to practice in a bunch of European countries that I know of), also check official registration requirements to be able to even use the title of (clinical) psychologists - these are often protected titles. In many countries 'coach' is not a protected title though. Academia maybe, but depends on your credentials of course.

You could start here to look for requirements (when in English)

My only thought is that I'd be unwilling to go into that amount of debt for any clinical psychology program, tbh ?

    Hey all!
Just thought I'd share my good news. I applied to 6 schools this cycle, received official rejections from 2 schools, and expecting the other 4 to all be rejections as well since I've had no interview requests. I started applying to lab manager/lab coordinator positions and I've already gotten 2 interviews so far! I haven't officially gotten the jobs but I feel so much better after not getting any interview invites prior. I really thought my application wasn't good enough and honestly debated giving up on ever going to grad school, but just getting these interviews have really made me more excited and I'm definitely gonna work on my apps and try again next year!

@Psychdreaming143 if it were me I'd stay with them bring a facemask when I was sleeping/ a few clorox wipes and try to sneak wipe things down.  I'd make up a story off having recently been ill and how excited you were about staying with the student that you decided it was worth the sacrifice.  So they feel bad and you also have an excuse to be anal.

I would email the people who are coordinating the arrangements immediately. Your host let you know she was sick for a reason, (which was really great of her!) I'm sure she would understand and probably also be relieved if you stayed elsewhere. Your health is important. It is perfectly acceptable for you to explain this and ask for alternate arrangements, just be prepared to offer to take care of it yourself. A good program will likely make new arrangements for you anyway, though.

I would tell the graduate student about your immune system and your fear along with a get well package/card... They also know the stress and fear around interviews so I don't think she will be upset if anything this will allow her/him to focus on taking care of themselves instead of hosting.

CBT is a typically considered technique or a perspective in therapy that you can become trained and competent in. If you'd like to become a licensed and practicing therapist and use that perspective, there are a few different options. This is a pretty nice article that outlines some routes you can take to achieve your goal, depending on what you're interested in. You do not need an undergraduate degree in psychology to pursue this goal, but you will need to get a higher mental health-related degree (such as a PhD, a MSW, LMHC, or LPCC).

Guys I'm casually measuring the time until my next interview by how many more sleeps I have until interview day. Like nbd, but it's now 15 more sleeps til interview day. I need an advent calendar to get me through this business.
Edited bc actually an advent calendar is such a good idea. I'm going to find one on amazon and just eat 2 chocolates a day. Just living my best life.

8 publications is practically unheard of before grad school, right?? Either clinical psych is just so crazy stats-focused that your GRE leaves you ineligible most places or there’s a problem with the kinds of PIs you’re picking or your approach to personal statements/LORs has some problem. If you’re just coming out of undergrad that might be a factor too I suppose. It seems likely that you can get a paid postbac position with the stats you have that can enhance your app, so maybe check those out and don’t worry about masters programs (I’d actually recommend avoiding masters programs to *anyone* who can snag a paid research position but maybe clinical psych really is just super stats-obsessed and this advise is only for people interested in research.)
Anyway if anyone’s interested in BU’s timeline, BostonU extended an unofficial on-campus interview offer to me yesterday; official ones seem set to go out next week. Date is around March 9?

I just received my confirmation for running the Boston Marathon this year (?). Which btw happens to be on April 15th. I grew up in Boston so that Monday has ALWAYS been Patriots Day. But now it's The Fate of My Professional Career Day.
tbh, I just want to fast forward 3 months so I can know my fate  ?

This happened to me on my first ever application round. All I can say is: SLEEP! If possible, take off work or other responsibilities to get some good rest. That will make or break if you get better.
Try not to stress. I'd highly recommend you go see a doctor/hit up urgent care to get some medication (I wish I was able to do this when it happened to me. Z-Packs -as bad as they are for antibiotic immunity and as much as I hate relying on medication - are true lifesavers. My cold came on around 1am the night before the interview, so, I unfortunately did not have time/it would not have made a difference in such a short amount of time). Pack medication, tissues, cough drops, and TONS hand sanitizer in your bag (if you carry one).

So I have interviews in February, and honestly I have absolutely no idea what to do to prepare. I'm definitely in that (super healthy) headspace of "this task is so daunting that the best way to solve it is to never ever think about it until it goes away or I die". It's so frustrating because we've all work so hard to get here, and now I'm having this complete mental block. Has anyone else had this problem?
How did you guys go about starting to prep? I know I need to break things down into small manageable tasks but the question is - which step first?

For anyone that applied to Clinical Psych PhD programs at UNC-Chapel Hill, American University, or University of Cincinnati - I emailed their graduate admissions and all these programs are still sending out interview invites. Not all interview slots have been filled. UNC applicants will hear by January 18th, and University of Cincy applicants should hear by the end of Jan. Hope that helps!

honeyrue reacted to higaisha in Applying for a postbacc with POI while app is under review?
Howdy smart folks of the psych forum. I have a bit of a dilemma on my hands, and I'd like to get your thoughts on it. Basically, I'm wondering if it is unprofessional/in poor taste to apply for a post-bacc position under someone I have applied to work with in PhD admissions while my application is in review.
I'll break down some of the facts
Me and the POI have been in correspondence, so i'm not really cold-calling I have no clue at what point of the review process my app is in I am highly unlikely to be accepted in to the school anyway, so its just a matter of asking sooner rather than later for a backup  I feel the opportunity is time-sensitive, so I don't want to wait until I'm formally rejected to reach out In the odd chance I'm in the running, I don't want to come across as someone who's kind of accepting defeat  WWYD? Thanks!
