When is it okay to inquire about the application status.
Ternwild replied to taharah's topic in Waiting it Out
Any time is fine, really. The best way to contact is via email to the general graduate admissions email. Late Feb/Early March is usually a good time to inquire and they're used to it/expecting it. Some responses will be "Thanks for contacting...blah blah...please check the web portal...blah blah...expect decisions by xxx." Real generic, avoidance stuff. But I find every few schools they're properly check for you and look through your application status, personally. -
This application season I learned........

Whelp, a quick glance at my signature would indicate that I am not stranger to rejections (or losing money xD). The best thing I can say is don't give up. Work on your GRE scores and try to get a job in your field (or something you can relate to your field). I am reapplying this years because I raised my subject GRE score by 100 points after studying for 10 months. Because my field is incredibly competitive, I am also applying to Master's programs to increase my odds, by improving my application next year. Ultimately, there is going to be a time when you might be faced with deciding whether or not to continue to pursue a career in academia. And, honestly, that's okay too. Just know that the idea that you'll just get into a grad school right after undergrad and you're done in 4 years, isn't the reality. Grad school applications can be very competitive and you may have to sit out one or two cycles until you can get in. There are a LOT of us here that are on our 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th cycle. If you don't get in this year, don't sweat it. You aren't alone and it doesn't mean the end of your academic career. Work on raising your application competitiveness and apply to more attainable schools (a lesson it took me 2 cycles to learn). Also, consider shotgunning a few schools that have programs you're interested in. Meaning? Apply to 10 instead of 3. Focus heavily on three or four and make yourself super competitive to them, and then apply to 5 or 6 schools that sound pretty good, but are really there in hopes to getting your more options. If you don't get into the 4 you focused on, but do get into one of the rest, then great! You now have solid choices.

That's my mood through all of them. lol -
You're right with your assumption that the last semester grades don't factor into their decision process. Bear in mind, however, most schools will ask for an official transcript after you confer your degree, if you get accepted.

The tutorial explains it pretty well. But as soon as you type the name of the program or university, the drop down menu will start to auto populate with the item that closely fits. Give it a try by starting to type in the Cell and you'll see what I mean.

Did you want them to be able to add them? My plan was for them to manually imput the data if it doesn't show in their dropdown menu and I'll add those specific universities/program names to the list. It wasn't removed. I only set it so it wouldn't reject them; instead, it lets them enter it but with an error indicator, which allows me to quickly flag it and add the name of the university, personally.

This really the point I was trying to make.

Go ahead and type in your institution name as is. It shouldn't prevent you from doing so anymore. But do try to university names with the closest available from the drop down menu. Also, if you have to manually enter it, enter the name exactly like it is on their website, like you were mailing a letter to them (i.e. u of new hamp ❌, University of New Hampshire ✔️).

No you should leave the professor alone and wait to see the results. Nothing you can do. Coming off as begging or flip-floppity will only look bad on you as a candidate. Also, sorry about your breakup. Hopefully it was mutual.

Mate, listen, I went to undergrad at TAMU and let me tell you, they did you a favour. That university is awful. The tiny little town, College Station, is so sad and run down. You aren't missing anything, man. Save your time for a school that deserves it. -

The physics results page is turned into some sort of comment sections...there's pages and pages like this. See for yourself... 2019, the year when people turn the results page into a forum. -
I have one! =P We need people to help The Grad Cafe make a tool to locate deadlines. Specifically, we need people who can take a few minutes a day to look up deadlines for their programs (Priority deadlines and even if the time has passed) at various universities and enter the data. ?

Check out this post I created and enter your data! @TGCA responded to a thread I started and suggested someone start a excel sheet full of Deadlines for various programs. But this is crowd sourced, so I need all the data you have to be entered into this excel sheet, so @TGCA can create a tool to help people quickly find application deadlines! This is a tool we all very badly need. So, I hope it serves a great purpose to future applications like TGC has done for us.

We need more contributors. If you haven't contributed yet, please take the time to enter your data. It only takes two minutes and I've provided a tutorial on how to do it in the original thread. -
Yeah, emailed the grad department. They let me know "You're application is slotted to be reviewed by March 8th." So, I guess I know when my rejection is coming in lol.
