  1. Just ran through my weekly/Friday check ins on PhD applications- still no updates! Didn't actually expect there to be, considering most the schools have notes on their systems or sent out emails about being MIA from the 23rd to the 1st. I'm excited to find out what happens after the first.
  2. I haven't heard from any of my PhD program schools so far, either. I think it's still fairly early. I've only seen one of my schools pop up with two interview invites for my program, but the person I talked to did not have the same POI as I do. The other of my school programs that has popped up on survey has been only for rejections, so I'm not bummed at all to have not heard from the program for those emails. I don't think we should get too worried about not being contacted. It sounds like you are a very strong candidate and there's still lots of time during this application season. If you do end up needing a second backup plan.... worldschooling is a thing
  3. This is fantastic, thank you for sharing!
  4. I would appreciate this information, as well.
  5. I agree, I don't think there is much reason not to share initials through the survey format. That format doesn't directly connect anyone to their forum avatar. I honestly doubt many POIs check regularly, but I bet many know about gradcafe. I think the not sharing in the forum is more a safe than sorry/discretion and valor type thing.
  6. I can't share what anyone's actual reasons might be, but I can tell you why I would assume for only stating them through private message (or for being purposefully vague when discussing your own stats). There is a [good] chance that POIs are aware of these forums and might even watch them. If you give enough identifying information on here, it probably becomes easy to figure out exactly which applicant you are. There is no way to know what sort of implicit or explicit association that POI has with this forum, the fact that you have shared information about being contacted, or anything else you have said or done on the forum. There is then the chance that this could impact your chances of getting into the program. The initials thing I am not totally sure about, honestly.
  7. All the University of Iowa's on survey have specified the subfield of psychology (1xchild-clinical, 2xcounseling, 1xcognitive, 1xclinical, and 1xexperimental). The one that specified as cognitive says it was an informal contact, so I wouldn't worry. https://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=iowa&t=a&o=&pp=25 I've only seen school psychology pop up for MIZZOU so far.
  8. Emersion is the best way to learn a language
  9. Legit backup plan: masters of science in psychology, research tract. You'll see me again in a year or two with a better CV with another degree and research experience. Best/craziest discussed by hubs and I: selling home, buying rv and boat then going world schooling for a bit. You'll see me again in a year or two with a CV with... more experiences.
  10. I've had no responses from any of my programs. You are not alone!
  11. Those GRE subscription emails from random schools are the worst right now! Never should have checked that box. "I've got edu email!" "It's spam." *ready for repeat* ...
  12. Last year the 24th was on a Saturday, so I guess I need to hold my breath for a little bit longer ;-)
  13. I am officially calling it quits on holding my breathe about any last minute notifications before the holiday closings. Hope everyone has a great next week and that we all get amazing news next year!
  14. It depends on the program, but you can normally find this information for the program you are looking at. For example, I was looking at University of Nebraska-Lincoln's info today (https://psychology.unl.edu/clinical-psychology-training-program/Web tables - Aug 2017.pdf). Last year they had 239 applications, interviewed 30, offered admission to 16, and had 9 who were actually admitted. The year before those numbers were 193, 26, 13, and 9. You can see back to 2007 in the pdf. In the initial rejection notice for this year (currently quoted at the top of this search on gradcafe's survey page: https://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=nebraska&t=a&o=&pp=25) it is stated that Nebraska-Lincoln had more than 230 applicants this year for 8-10 available openings. That's in line for the past year's data, so it can be assumed 25-30 applicants will be interviewed this year. You can find data like that on almost every program site if you look for it. Is there a specific program you are wondering about?
  15. I'm pretty sure this response would be considered normal anxiety as opposed to neurotic anxiety (or so I'm telling myself), so totally belongs on the CV. "I am proficient at finding productive ways to handle normal anxiety by making choices and engaging in actions that allow me to stay constantly apprised of any possible shift in the anxiety inducing scenario."
  16. Someone posted to survey yesterday about an University of Iowa interview.... but I'm about to go check for Nebraska-Lincoln, now- lol.
  17. I managed to zen myself out about the being in a lull until after new years... then one of my schools + programs finally popped up on the survey yesterday. I'm down for that bar crawl.
  18. Would love to hear from the applicant who got the University of Iowa email for an interview about if it was a mass email or not.
  19. The Wisconsin-Madison application was like that, I think. Very glad this worked out for you!
  20. Good point about how from here until after the first of the year there will be a lull.
  21. Not UCLA, but one of my programs did a platform switch in November and had some serious glitches on top with the application process because of the switch. When I searched the invite threads for past years, they had sent out invites by now. I didn't even consider that they might be delayed because of dealing with application issues. Thanks for mentioning this!
  22. Same here! I haven't seen my POIs or programs, but have seen a couple for my schools.
  23. I'm glad it's not just me! This is what I keep thinking, that this is probably the norm. It's hard when people are posting invites
  24. I'm curious as to how many others who have applied to PhD program have just not heard anything, yet? Besides a generic email letting you know your application has been submitted or sent to review or whatever. Just not heard nothing- no interview invites, no rejections, nothing?
  25. Ugh, I keep telling myself there is no point to checking for status updates and that I'll most likely get an email when anything updates anyways. I am failing at not obsessing about this. It's not like I don't have tons of stuff I need to do instead, either!
