*I is stressed* venting thread for Fall 2020 Applicants
PsyZei replied to justacigar's topic in Psychology Forum
Thanks for sharing this! I've heard from five of my eight, and I'm not sure when the remaining send out invites (Couple/Marriage and Family Therapy &/or related programs); so, I'll have to tweak some of the working. Also, I'll probably wait and contact any place I haven't heard from nearer to the end of February- since I don't know when they normally send out invites. -

Thank you for asking about this. I haven't had overlap yet, thankfully, but was also wondering how to best navigate the situation if it does.

School: University of Iowa Type: PhD Psychological and Quantitative Foundations, Couple and Family Therapy Date of contact: December 16th, 2019 Contact Type: Email from Office of Student Services Coordinator Contact Information: Email letting me know that my application "is now complete and is being referred for the faculty review." Said faculty were copied to the email (I replied to all thanking for the update). Other Information: My application was complete on December 1st, but the program's official due date for application completion is not until January 1st. The programs webpage states that "faculty consideration of applications begins January 15 for fall entry." My assumption (which might be incorrect) is that is still the date the application will actually begin to be reviewed, and the email is just a courtesy to let them and myself know the application is marked complete. -

I have a few that I think would be better fits when it comes to the program, but they tend not to be the same few that the location would be better for me. Funding will probably end up being a big part of my decision, if I get multiple acceptances. Did you apply anywhere besides Antioch? -

Thinking along the same lines as SoundofSilence, and also not saying don't leave the program, but I wonder if it would be possible to drop down to part time (so it's cheaper) or would that kill your funding? How many credits do you need to finish the masters program? Maybe you could drop down to part time and then apply to PhD programs with the understanding that you would are interested in starting a PhD program and perhaps transferring some of the credits in, rather than finishing the masters before starting the PhD program. That's not ideal, but was wondering if that might look better on applications than just dropping the program? Plus, staying in the program gives you a chance to continue trying to get the research experience from the labs there, while being part time would give you more time to study for GRE and whatnot.

Same here! I know it's early, but was interested in what the general time frame is. There isn't a lot of chatter about it. I did get a phone call from Adler today with an interview invite for January. I was surprised at how quick that was and am really excited about it. Good luck to you also! -
Was just wondering if anyone else on GradCafe was applying to MFT PhD or related programs? There's not really a perfect forum to post about it in, as GradCafe doesn't have a Human Ecology forum, but Psychology seems as close as anything. I was trying to figure out average dates for interviews and the like but that's pretty hard for the MFT programs. I've applied for Marriage and Family Therapy or Couples and Family Therapy programs at: University of Iowa University of of Minnesota-Twin Cities Kansas State University Adler University Antioch University Mount Mercy University.

Fall 2020 Clinical & Counseling PhD/PsyD

Two of mine didn't write theirs until yesterday afternoon. I just checked this morning, and everything is in for my applications- whew! How's it going for yours? -

Congrats on that!!! I will probably take you up on yoru DM offer. There are a couple faculty members there who I would really, really like to get to learn from. I'm still in the early stages, but suspect UNL will either be my top hope or very close to it. -
Fall 2020 Clinical & Counseling PhD/PsyD
PsyZei replied to dancedementia's topic in Psychology Forum
Hello and good luck to everyone! I'm applying to both Marriage and Family Therapy and Clinical Psychology PhD programs, but there isn't a Human Ecology forum on Gradcafe, so I'm just going to track everything here (Therapy and Counseling are close enough, right? ?). Like OP, I've got some geographical logistics that severly limit the locations I can move to (which is why I'm applying to both MFT and Clinical Psych programs), and when you throw in wanting faculty that match my focus areas that gives me this list for applications: University of Iowa (MFT) University of Minnesota-Twin Cities (MFT) Kansas State University (MFT) University of Nebraska-Lincoln (PSY) University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign (PSY) University of Wisconsin-Madison (PSY) University of Iowa (PSY) University of Kansas (PSY) University of Missouri- Kansas City (PSY) I think I have a good basis for application, though I''m a very non-traditional student. Got a good academic record with a Psychology bachelors (4.0 and completed in 2 years, 3 months) and MFT masters (4.0 so far, graduating in 2020). Only one research poster presented at a graduate symposium, but it won the highest level of award for poster presentations at the event (will also be working on thesis research at time of applications/interviews). Haven't been a TA, but have guest lectured for some undergraduate courses to help out a couple of my professors and get that experience. 165/162/4.5 GRE (though it's going to be 2 years old for these applications, but decided to not stress about retaking it this year and will next year if applying again). Have clinical experience as a student therapist at my university's clinic. Also have some letters/credentials I can list after my name (and hope to have one more set before graduating with my masters) that are related to my research and clinical population of focus. Mainly worried about trying to make sure I have good personal statements, so I took a light credit load this summer (6hrs) to work on them and the applications. -
Ditto for some of mine. I've seen other people both accepted and rejected for some of the programs, but I've heard nothing and my status on the websites is still awaiting decision or under review.
-
I totally feel you. Best of luck, as well!
-
According to gradcafe survey history, we probably won't hear from them for another week, at the least. It will probably closer to end of the month.
-
If anyone is interested in Nebraska-Lincoln, Clinical. I got an email letting me know all interviews have been extended.
-
Can anyone who got an interview with Nebraska-Lincoln clinical please message me with your POI? Thank you

I'm forestalling freaking out until next Friday. I did my Friday sweep of application statuses and still have no updates, no emails, nada. Gradcafe history says my programs still have time, though I'm seeing interviews going out for a couple of them. Next Friday is a good midpoint for when the majority of my programs have contacted people. One of the programs looks like generic rejection emails went out today, so I'm choosing to be grateful I didn't receive one of those.
-
Not yet. According to gradcafe survey past data, decisions for the DPCS track seem to go out in late January.
-
It depends on your program. If you look through the survey, you'll find that for many programs interview invitations haven't been sent out, in the past few years anyways, until January and even into mid-February (though less common). This is actually the case for most of the programs I applied for. Don't freak out, yet!
