  1. I'm still pretty sad to be going to my second choice overall school and not my first (masters). I was accepted at both but the lack of financial aid and blasé attitude the admissions office displayed toward the cost of the program was ridiculous and off-putting. It doesn't matter how much you "believe" in the program and it's value - the job prospects are well-paying but not surgeon, corporate lawyer, wall street, take out 100k well-paying. I still have debt from undergrad and I know how soul-sucking throwing money at interests payments and seeing the balance go nowhere can feel... and even more I would likely have the same job prospects from either program. But I liked the idea of going there more and the location. I should be thankful to have had options considering the cycles other had - but I still need to let out a whine.
  2. IU does not give anyone a full ride - the only assistance is in the form of ta positions and small scholarships. But at 25k out of state tuition + the cost of living in Bloomington even at sticker it’s not nearly as bad as Michigan. Rant/ I just feel annoyed Michigan does not seem to respect the months of hard work and uncertainty that goes into the application process. I have had no idea where I would be in August for at least a year. Asking me to continue the uncertainty for some unspecified period of time, implying if I stay in constant contact and prove how bad I want it - like some hellish bachelor episode - does not sit well with me.
  3. My flight was only $120 so I'm probably going to eat it. I don't see the point in going to a sale's pitch for a program costing 45k a year + living expenses. I might as well have been rejected - or the program could be located on the moon - I can't go. Hope you have other options as well.
  4. Yea I’m with you. I emailed saying funding was an issue - but I’m weighing this with my acceptance at Bloomington which comes with taship scholarship and savings and will require minimum debt. Really wish I had known before I bought a flight for visiting weekend. No point in hearing a sales pitch for a program with 45k tuition. They really seem to think if you looooove the program enough you’ll be willing to take out 100k+ in loans like it’s no big deal. I still have debt from undergrad no way would I take out that much.
  5. I have a feeling Michigan simply accepts everyone then let’s funding filter them out
  6. Anyone hear back about funding yet? I'm getting annoyed at the lack of response.
  7. You can't appeal a rejection I mean, theoretically you can send an email to admissions or the program but it would be a waste of time.
  8. I'm 30, will be 31 when I start and 33 at graduation. Not feeling self-conscious when sitting in a group of mid-twenty-somethings is going to be difficult. I have to keep reminding myself it's not as if everyone sees my driver's license before they talk to me so they might not be able to tell lol However, I'm not married, don't care to get married, and hate children so it was not a difficult decision for me to move and pursue grad school.
  9. I'm speaking about the first round of funding which is based on merit and not financial need. You should email admissions if you're still wondering about the acceptance timeline.
  10. I emailed the admissions office about funding today and they told me first rounds are still being processed and I should hear back in 1-2 weeks
  11. It looks like my round is done. Accepted: Syracuse, UMich, Bloomington Rejected: CMU, Cornell, NC, haven't officially heard from Georgia Tech but it's unlikely and I wasn't super keen on the idea of living in the confederacy I haven't received word of funding from Michigan, but unless it is nonexistent/negligible I'm likely going there in the fall
  12. Anyone waiting for a decision the fb group posted the following: "Decision Notices: Decisions will continue to be sent over the next few weeks so continue to monitor your email and online application portal for updates."
  13. I was accepted and now I'm terrified about the funding I may or may not receive
  14. Hi - I'm from Upstate New York, not Rochester specifically. If you have the option of a larger/mid-size city, take it. You will be surrounded by small towns and small minds the second you walk off campus.
  15. I also received an acceptance today - I specified hci and theories of social influence on the app considering the size of the program if all acceptances were out there would be more responses (?) so I wouldn’t consider it a lost cause just yet
  16. UMSI was one of my top choices. Does anyone know what their usual admittance rate? I mean, I don't know if that would make me feel better or worse, but I'm asking.
  17. Update: I was accepted to Syracuse but the program is new and I don't have much info about the course rigor and acceptance rates. Rejected from UNC but the program was not a great fit for my interests so unsurprising.
  18. I'm applying to MS programs in Human Computer Interaction / Information, specifically: University of Michigan, MS Information U of Indiana Bloomington, MS HCI Georgia Tech, MS in HCI - Psychology Cornell Tech, MS Health Tech Syracuse, MS Applied Data Science Carnegie Mellon, MS HCI U of North Carolina, MSIS and possibly Bentley MS in Human Factors My states are GPA 3.47 - with two notably bad semesters GRE Q154 V166 W4.0 I'm 30 years old and have 6 years of professional experience in web design/development and some product design. I've worked at very large fortune 500 companies and small startups. All my references are professional. I haven't heard from any place and have no real idea what my chances might be. I don't know how much professional experience will be valued over undergrad or if the huge split in GRE scores (97%V 54%Q) will matter.
