Thank you and congrats to you too!! I am also a little nervous.  But I read from a few other people who were interviewed that it's best to just relax and be yourself! I'll see you there :)

jsieges got a reaction from KEIM in University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences??
Hi! An admissions counselor called me today to review my CSDCAS application for the Dallas campus. She asked if I would be willing to go to the Austin campus in the event that I'm waitlisted and a spot at the Austin campus opens up. She said the only difference is the campus facilities and the professors you would have. I would say apply to your top choice location but don't stress too much about it!

jsieges got a reaction from SRod2015 in University of Montana-Distance Learning Masters SLP Program
I was looking for programs that have a distance option so that's how I found them. It is through CSDCAS. Everything I know is through what is provided on their websites! I figured I should apply to as many schools as I realistically can and if I get more than one acceptance I'll cross that bridge when I get there ?

Oh Lord. Those are literally THE worst questions to ask. I mean, you obviously want to be a SLP to help people. Maybe you had experience receiving speech services, but so do several applicants. I understand your aggravation- I felt it too! I was like UMMMM you want me to put it down on 1 page and sell myself? I’m NOT good at selling myself! That’s not my strong suit at all. If you had prior experience with speech such as you received services or a family member did and you had a memorable experience, write it for those that ask why you want to be a SLP. For me, my mom was a reading interventionist and I saw the correlation between reading and speech and wanted to help kids before they hit the reading learning years and became frustrated. That was my first letter of intent. What got me in was that I’ve been a SLPA for 4 years and in order for me to grow as a professional I must obtain my master’s degree... and in my title 1 district 98% of our students only receive services in school and can’t access outside therapy for a variety of reasons. THAT got me in. Lol. Both letters were my truth, but one stood out more than the other and was the difference in acceptance and waitlist!

Thank you. I didn't realize they had an article out about their policy. Regardless of their change of policy, I don't think I want to attend a college that doesn't accept ALL of me. It's not worth me going into debt for.

jsieges reacted to VS-SLP2B in "low" GPA acceptances
I had a low GPA overall a 3.1 and in the major a 3.3. I did take a year off and got accepted for fall 2019.
For me personally, I only sent in 3 LORs. Two professors and an SLP I shadowed.
I think sending in a fourth won’t hurt your chances. Unless of course a school explicitly says they only want 3 but for the most part I don’t think they would mind having a fourth.
If you come across a school that really only wants 3 I would double check the requirements (sometimes two have to be professors) and then submit only one from your undergrad professors, and then the teacher you cover and the SLP you plan to shadow. At least this way they have an array of people who have interacted with you all in different settings.

I took it online at ENMU. Easy A with a little bit of effort. Professor is super nice too. 10/10 do recommend. Let me know if you have any questions!

jsieges got a reaction from Jess3863 in ENMU SLP synchronized online classes. How does it work?
Totally depends on the class/professor. Last semester I had one class where I needed to be on and watching live because we used class time to do group work through google docs. So If I wasn't on then I would miss those points. Also had a class that required us to do a quiz on blackboard in the middle of the lecture. This semester for both my classes the professor has a policy of keeping the lecture recordings available unless she sees that attendance is down. The only real disadvantage of not watching live is not being able to ask questions but that's the case in every class. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions. I was so baffled by the process when I started.

Hi! I'm a current distance student. You're going to be watching a live feed of the class as its happening. We use Skype to type in questions/contributions/take attendance. I like to use the Skype app on my phone to ask a quick question if I have one. I haven't had a class yet where I've needed to "call in" and use my webcam. BUT I did have a class last semester (neuro with Bratcher) and during class we had to work on group projects during class time. I've had other classes where I missed because of work and just watched the recording of class that evening. I haven't taken summer classes but I've heard its really intense so just be prepared to be able to ask a lot of questions and potentially rewatch lectures.
