  1. That's encouraging! I'm confident in my statement and letters
  2. Hi guys! Has anyone received an interview invitation from MWU Glendale yet or have already interviewed? I submitted my application before Christmas, received an "interview waitlist" email stating my application was placed on hold pending a potential invitation for an interview. It's the beginning of February and I'm skeptical now. ? I have a 3.3 major GPA, 3.58 last 60 units, and awful GRE scores below 290. I also received my first rejection from ASU this week. I have 5 more programs I'm waiting to hear from, MWU-Glendale being one of the 5. I know it's early in the waiting process, it's just my nerves I guess, hehe ? #tryingtostaypositive P.S. I'm from California and I have applied to CSUF, Biola, NAU, ASU, MWU Glendale, and University of Arizona
  3. Congrats! I applied to NAU too, but for the Full-Time Track. Do you mind sharing what your GPA and GRE scores were? My stats are low and "not competitive" (less than 3.5 and below 300/gre) so I wouldn't be surprised if I don't get accepted anywhere this cycle ?
  4. Hi! I applied to this program and haven't been contacted about interviewing yet. I applied sometime early December and received an email a few days later about an 'interview waitlist.' Hoping to hear back soon, that was the first program I heard back from!
  5. Hello! My job keeps me occupied mentally; I work in a special day class helping students with autism and emotional disturbances so I have my hands full throughout the day! I also listen to Korean pop music on my downtime and watch walkthrough videos on youtube about games. Anyone who's into Kpop, feel free to message me I actively color in my coloring books and that relieves some tension. It's a good distraction while listening to music. I don't have many expectations about acceptances my first time applying, especially because of my stats (low GPA and GRE scores). I did my best on the essays. I hope my recommendations, experience, volunteering, and essays outshine my stats. Positive thoughts!
  6. Some professors on the first day specifically say no recording lectures. Some are fine with it. I still recorded lectures, but I had accommodations with my school's Disability Services office.
  7. HI everyone, I sent one of my professors a copy of my letter of intent. She emailed me back and told me to include all of my experienced summarized in it. I used an approach where I picked some of my experiences from undergrad (student leadership, volunteering) and working as an aide in a special education day class. I wrote about those experiences, what I learned, and how it would help me succeed in graduate school and as an SLP. I did this because I've read to not summarize your resume in a letter. I'm sort of confused now. My resume/all of my experience is roughly 3 pages long by the way. I can send my letter of intent in a private message if anyone wants to and give me some feedback. Thank you
  8. Hi everyone! Did anyone submit copies of a general letter of intent to professors, supervisors, etc so it would be easier for them to tailor their letter to mention your strengths, etc? And say good things about you apart from academics? Is sending recommenders a general letter of intent a good idea? I already have a list of the prompts of all the programs I’m applying to.
  9. Hello! My boyfriend applied to one school and was accepted. This was 2 years ago and he is finishing up grad school. It was his third time applying to programs. At the time the program didn't require GRE scores. Unfortunately, that is not the case now. I recommend searching on ASHA Ed Find for programs that accept GRE scores around your range. Don't give up! Do your best in building a strong application as well (letters of recommendation, volunteering, resume, letter of intent/statement of purpose, etc). All is not lost! Don't limit or sell yourself short.
  10. Hi everyone! For those who requested recommendations from employers, did you email them documents such as your transcript or a copy of your statement of purpose for them to review while writing the recommendations on your behalf? I'm applying to several programs via CSDCAS. I asked my supervisor and a special education teacher I worked with to write me letters. Do they need supplement items in order to write me a stronger recommendation? Or would it be better if I just submit the request form to them without those items? I would love feedback about this. Thank you
  11. Hi everyone! So, I'm aiming to apply for grad school this fall in hopes of starting a master's program in Fall 2019. I want to begin brainstorming ideas for my letter of intent/statement of purpose. I currently work as an instructional aide in a day class at a school. The students I work with have emotional/behavioral disturbances (EBD). I know at least one student in my class has speech every week. I've also worked with students with Autism at a high school on occasion. Here is my question: Will I be able to connect my experiences as an aide to EBD students with speech-language pathology? Is my experience as an aide relevant to the field? I'm beginning to look for articles from ASHA that discuss communicative disorders in children and teenagers with EBD. I hope that doing research will help me connect my current work experience with speech. I want to show an admissions committee that I can relate my work/job duties as an aide to speech. I would love some advice/wisdom/thoughts; all of that good stuff! Thank you
