If you are out of field and do not have a bachelors in CSD, just do an online post-bacc to get all of your necessary pre-reqs. It will open up more options for SLP programs. Also there are plenty of online/distance parttime slp programs if you are able to do well in your post-bacc and gain experience for your resume. If he retires will you guys be staying in HI? That's also something to keep in mind. Seems like a more flexible option would be to take the time for pre-reqs and apply to slp programs after.

Hey do you know if we can visit the florida campus if we live in FL? I would hate to have to take multiple flights. I definitely don't mind driving to the Miami or St. Augustine campuses though.

Your professor comes across as highly judgemental and unprofessional to me. I think if I was in your cohort due to my anxiety I would've been triggered and left to the bathroom as well. Just because she does not personally suffer from mental illness, does not give her the right to publicly criticize or state her opinion like that to a classroom of students. I would honestly report her to a dean or whoever her higher ups are so that she can be alerted to be more sensitive in the future when stating HER personal opinions/feelings to her paying students. People with mental illness and any other disability can do whatever career they choose so I don't see why she felt the need to randomly speak on that. Definitely report her and also check out your schools EAP services. All universities have services they are able to provide to students don't be afraid to reach out and get some help so you can succeed and prove that professor wrong. Also you are highly capable of earning your degree, don't stress her comments. She is one of the many negative nancys you will encounter on your grad school journey. Just remember these people won't matter in 10 years when you are a successful counselor.

They look at everything (GPA, GRE, experience, letters of rec, statement), you sound like a competitive applicant. I'm sure you'll get accepted into one of the 13 programs...

I'm not a current student but I follow a few SLPs on instagram that have attended the program and they all speak highly of it and loved the program. I considered applying but the tuition is $82,848. You also have to attend 2 immersions in NYC so that tuition price does not include the price of your flight, food, transportation(subway/taxi/uber) and stay(hotel, air b&b etc), and NYC is not cheap. I feel like for that price tag, I'd rather apply to other distance programs which are a bit cheaper or just go to a school out of state. Also its a huge turn off that the classes are "live". There are a lot of other distance programs to consider so just weigh your options. I've done my research and this school is one of the most expensive distance programs. If money isn't an issue then I'm sure it's an amazing program.

What do you mean exactly? Like transferring your credits from one undergrad program to another undergrad program? That shouldn't be an issue.

Yay, I'm glad someone else looked into it as much as I did lol. And thanks for mentioning that you know someone in the program and that it's going well. The price is very affordable compared to Nova and other distance programs so I'm glad here in FL we have another option. Have you attended their info session? They have one coming up on 10/25.

Did they speak about their accreditation? I have a weird feeling about their school but was considering applying.

You'd have to ask the programs directly. Usually there is an email address listed on the program's site on who you should contact regarding their policy.

Yes it's true, if you qualified for an interview the chances are that they will accept you. I'm considering applying soon, did they take a long time to accept you? I've heard some people say it takes over a year to start classes or hear back.

This is awesome. I live in FL and UF does not have a distance program. They just have an online/virtual post-bacc which is why they probably appeared on ASHA EdFind as being a distance program.

For those of you that moved away for school, out of state or to a completely new area how is that going for you? I was pretty set on staying in my town but am considering moving now.

I answered you in another thread talking more about the accreditation, I'm on the fence about applying as well because of it. ?The tuition is $55k which is not too bad but I'm considering just applying to other schools where I won't have to worry whether they'll get the accreditation or not. Hopefully someone in the program will write on here and give more insight. I'm sure the CAA doesn't give Candidacy status to programs they don't think will maintain it.

On ASHA EdFind I couldn't find this school listed in their search either. Seems sketchy at first because in undergrad they stressed to us how important ASHA EdFind was and that we need to make sure the programs we apply to are fully accredited... but I've heard that EdFind is not frequently updated, I think they update it once a year. The University of St. Aug. is a newer program so they may just not be on their yet. On the University of St. Augustine site it says: "It is the intent of the USAHS MS-SLP program to comply with Candidacy status requirements and to seek full accreditation. Currently, Speech-Language Pathology program graduates must hold a degree from a Speech-Language Pathology program that is considered to be in Accreditation Candidate status or fully accredited by the CAA, depending on the state, in order to be eligible to practice as a licensed speech-language pathologist in most states." So basically they are in Candidacy status until 2023, all "emerging and developing" programs have 5 years to get fully accredited if I understand properly. So from now 2018, until 5 years later which will be in 2023 that they should receive full accreditation status if they continue to comply with the CAA standards. Not sure what that means but I'm too worried to apply and be in a program that might possibly be shut down or something. I may wait and see how it goes for others in the program before applying. And sorry this is an essay but I looked into it and thought I might as well share what I found with anyone else who might be curious
