You want to be authentic in your interviews.  You can choose to wear your ring or not, but almost certainly you're going to end up talking about your fiance at some point during the interview - to interviewers, fellow interviewees, or other grad students.  It's highly likely that if you actively avoid talking about him that you'll come across as awkward or reserved (or worse yet, hiding something) which won't give you interviewers a good idea of who you really are and could hurt your chances.  So, if I were in your shoes, I'd wear the ring and be yourself. (I'll be wearing mine for my interviews)

I would agree with the above advice as well. I am married, and will certainly wear my rings to interviews.  The reality is, my husband is a very big part of my life and there is a good chance I will get pregnant at some point during my graduate career.  I don't want to be somewhere that is going to act ugly towards me when they find out I'm married or if I want to start a family. Show off that beautiful ring and find a school that is going to support YOU in both your personal and professional life.

The way I see it is, would you really want to spend then next 5+ years at an institution that would frown upon their students having a work-life balance? There may absolutely be faculty who would hold your engagement ring as a negative factor. I can't imagine the other concerns students may have regarding work-life balance. Most students are at the age where getting engaged/married/having kids is normal so it really shouldn't be an issue.
Congrats btw! It's such an exciting time!

It definitely shouldn't matter but old-fashioned (sexist) advice would say not to wear it to avoid suggesting that you are too focused on your personal/family life, or making your interviewer wonder if you would take maternity leave at some point. It's garbage on multiple levels.

Honestly at this point I'd so much rather just receive rejections (or interviews ?) and at least know where I stand than have to wait anymore. I feel like rejections will be horrible, but at least it's over and you can deal with it and then focus on interviews, you know?

Has anyone heard anything from Washington State? The calendar that's floated around here listed their deadline as Jan 15th, but I'm wondering if anyone had prelim phone interviews or heard something early. (Read as: I'm going crazy, am completely impatient, and just want the wait to end lol)

I don't think they will judge you at all for this, it's something pretty beyond your control, and something that a lot of people experience when they move to higher elevations. Make sure you drink a lot of water the week leading up the interview, as that is what will help you the most with adjusting to altitude!  It can also be helpful if there is any way to spend your first night at a less high altitude (but higher than you are used to).  The obviously depends on where you are flying into, but what would be ideal would be to stay your first night somewhere that is 4000-5000 ft and then your second night at the full altitude and then have your interview the 3rd day.  However, I know that is a lot of extra time!  That gradual progression does help your body adjust though!  Good luck

Needed some encourage mint today! Anyone else feeling extra pressure since this is the last week before universities begin their breaks? Realistically I know many programs haven't sent out interview invites yet, but the panic voice in my brain is still on red alert lol.

It makes you look conscientious to prepare in advance and notify them of these accommodations. I don't think they would see you as a weak person, you might be overthinking it.

I think this is smart if you know you don’t deal well with high altitudes. I don’t think you would look crazy. Even people who live there have to readjust after time away. I’m sure they will understand. I think in general being honest is best. You look crazy when you try to come up with stuff to cover the real reason. You could also say you’re coming a day or two early for vacation if you really don’t want to tell.

Flying in a day or two early (if you can) is a good idea.  Also, talk to your doctor.  There are some prescription medications that can help with altitude sickness that might be a fit for your situation.

My first time applying as well! I did an interview in December and wish I came across this sooner:
I found this while checking out the 2018 threads, and found these to be similar to the questions I was asked in my interview. Clinical Psychology Potential Interview Questions: http://www2.tulane.edu/sse/psyc/news-and-events/archive/upload/InterviewQuestions.pdf Thought this might be a good starting point!

I would also recommend constantly searching through any listings your university has of staff/research/etc positions. I had a dead-end job for 6 months after I graduated before finally finding and applying for a paid research technician position that looked really good on my applications. Don't give up if you don't find something right away - there are always stragglers who put applications out at seemingly random times due to positions opening etc.
I also found it helpful to ask any mentors you have at your university if they have or know of anyone in the department that has paid positions related to research for after you graduate. Most professors know that students looking at graduate programs will be on the lookout for these positions, but if you put yourself out there they may be able to find something for you or send you an opportunities they hear about. A lot of departments send emails through faculty asking if anyone knows a student/post-bac who would fit the job they're looking for - I had my mentor send a few different types of opportunities my way over my senior year and beyond. Definitely not guaranteed, but I don't think it hurts to get your name out there (and show letter writers again how dedicated you are to continuing research ?).

As a caution to people seconding requests for PI information, it's confusing if you're quoting "Same here!"-type posts that don't include details about which school you're inquiring, so please make sure to add that to your post to make it clear.  Thanks!  Best of luck to us all.
