My status also changed to matched, I just checked this morning. At least for me, this must have happened after the email because I also checked right when i received the email and it was still unmatched.

@ray92 I was also reading on last years forum some people were on matched and then changed to held/released, so better not to get hopes up too soon!

@Penelopepie I think you will have a better chance at getting advice from SLP peeps if you post your questions at https://forum.thegradcafe.com/forum/95-speech-language-pathology/
    Good luck!

trust them! And it is not uncommon for schools to accept LORs a bit after the deadline because well, it's out of your control and referees suck sometimes lol

of my 3 LOR writers, only one has submitted them all. 1 got back not long from a trip overseas and now her whole family is down with some bug (they suspect dengue) and my other 1 just let me know he knows the deadline is dec 1st. adrenal glands? what are those?

Hey! thanks for the kind words. Yeah I'm trying to bring up that MCB background as a positive haha. I'll check out this schools thanks for the recommendation.
BTW, I saw on your post that your research interests are in biomaterials/tissue engineering/regenerative medicine. I have a decent experience in this area so if you have any questions about it feel free to PM me.
Thanks for the response and the recommendations! Calms my nerves a little.

Teaching Faculty Wannabe got a reaction from elx in Is it presumptious to ask LOR writers to submit for 12-13 applications?
I feel like most professors are used to this type of thing. It is common for people to apply to 5-10 programs along with a few scholarships and fellowships. I am applying to nine schools and two fellowships, each with their own separate portals for my letter writers to submit to. When I asked them if they could be my LOR writer, I gave them a list of everything I was applying to as well as any instructions on how they will submit their letters. All three them of them were fine with it. I think if you are upfront with them about how many letters they need, then they should be accepting and understanding. If you just ask if they can be a LOR writer without telling them specifics, it might throw them off when they get all these emails from various programs you are applying to.
I hope this helps! Good luck with your applications!

I got an email as well today and my employer status changed to matched (@ray92) . I am not sure this happened before or after the email, but yeah. I have attached the meaning of the different statuses of the employer status that I got from a previous forum.
    Status Change Definitions
Matched - GEM thinks you're a good candidate and matched you with a company(companies)  Held - A company is reviewing your credentials and is considering an interview extension Release - if you went from Held to Release then the company was looking at you, but decided to pick another scholar. (This can happen after an interview also). Accepted - You got a company sponsor! Congrats! Also, you don't have to be sponsored by a company to get a GEM Fellowship. Just by a university, I think. If you don't get a company sponsor, then you get an associate fellowship and less funding and no internship, I think.

I've found with my professors, less is more. I remind them about two weeks before, then check in a few days before. It's worked so far.

I do not recommend using this tactic. Applicants to graduate programs are not professors' managers and, therefore, should not address professors as if they're subordinates.

@Raghuram Look into North Carolina State University. I did my undergrad in materials science and engineering there, and I love the town, the university, and the department. It's a good engineering school, but not a super competitive school like others can be. Good luck!

Teaching Faculty Wannabe got a reaction from EHIZO in General Advice when Applying
    Hi all!
I am sure some you know this already, but it is a great idea to thoroughly research all of the schools you are applying to. I did that a long time ago, but I don't think I did a very good job, which forced me to again research future advisors and other parts of the programs I am applying to. I have discovered some really cool things and I have also found more professors I could work with. Additionally, I noticed my research interests expanding, which has been interesting! I also looked up professional, academic, social, and volunteer-based clubs I could be a member of at each university.
So, keep researching and making sure that you feel comfortable with the schools you are applying to!
    Good luck!

At University of Michigan, this essay is also used for other fellowship consideration, such as the Rackham Merit Fellowship. For several students I've heard an ok essay didn't hurt them much, but a great one was instrumental in getting additional funding.

@Stat PhD Now Postdoc: Thank you for your advice. In that case, I will move forward writing the diversity statement. I will be sure to discuss my experiences in an honest, neutral manner and avoid any entitled or grandiose statements. I am glad to know that my experiences will probably be viewed favorably by admissions committees.
@Moods: I was mostly worried about being "judged" by researchers on the admissions committees, but you bring up an excellent point that those researchers would be unpleasant to work with anyway. The conversation you linked is very helpful. Thank you for your insightful comments - you're right that the statement will offer another glimpse of me to the admissions committee. Good luck in your application as well!
@Gauss2017: That is true, I am an American white female. Unfortunately, I was not very active in any clubs at my school, so I did not participate in any women in math or women in STEM groups. I can't say I have experienced any blatant issues from classmates or professors as a woman in math/stats. Of course, I am one of a few females in my theoretical math classes, and there have been subtle comments or incidents with causes I can speculate.

In my opinion, I don't think this is strange. I think it's a bonus to have the person you want to work with say good things about you.
    Good luck!

First off, great job with your GRE scores. Your GPAs are great, so you have those two things going for you. LORs are good. Maybe replace your second one with your boss if you want to switch them. Great research experience with some presentation skills. You could maybe mention in your SOPs that you have published memos, if you have room. It's super impressive that you obtained two degrees in four years with the GPAs that you have. Amazing!
Even though you may not have extensive research using computational tools in biomedical engineering, you do seem to have experience and skills using computational programming. Like myself, I haven't done any research in the area that I want to do in graduate school. However, in my SOPs, I am talking about how I can easily adapt to different labs and research projects being conducted. Also, if you show your passion in the subject, then I think that will be sufficient. Maybe others will say differently, but I am betting on that myself.
I think you are an great candidate with all that you have accomplished, especially in a short amount of time! Good luck with everything!

So, something that I have done that has helped me manage my anxiety a bit is to have two different goals per assignment written in my planner. The first goal is a "This much has to get done by this date" goal. Bare minimum so that way I don't get swamped later. The second is a stretch goal that I can reach if I have the energy/inspiration/impulse/etc. This has helped me make sure that all of my assignments are done on time without having to worry too much about how I'm going to get a larger project done during the weekend.

My mentor is such a great guy. He lent me his umbrella today because I had to walk further than him in the rain and we were going opposite directions. He is very attentive and encouraging, and we share a lot of the same values. It's funny because I was placed with him by chance to be his RA my first year, and I didn't think I was going to do research in his area. But now I am doing research in his area, and I've worked with him for 3 & 1/2 years, and I don't think I would be as comfortable with the other professors in this area. I'm very thankful that I get to work with him.

Not necessarily. A lot of programs in the humanities wait until after deadlines have passed so they can evaluate applicants at the same time.
