It really varies per university. I think on the SSHRC website it should say how many awards are allocated per institution. So it depends on how many people are in your program as seen below. I copied this from the McGill website, but it depends which institution as some Universities get more quotas for awards than others. Also its up to the committee's discretion to pass along the maximum amount of award quotas per department. So that's where it gets tricky. Less than 20 SSHRC: 4 NSERC: 2 CIHR: 2 21-40 SSHRC: 8 NSERC: 4 CIHR: 4 41-60 SSHRC: 10 NSERC: 6 CIHR: 6 61 and more SSHRC: 12 NSERC: 8

I feel like Ineligible is for those who did not meet the basic "requirements" outlined on the NSERC web page. Whereas "Not Offered" could mean that by the time your university of choice receives the application (once passed through the department that is, and is handed off to the head committee), they may feel that the application is not "meritorious" compared to other applicants. I saw online that the committee ranks applicants, so I think they consider 1) your department's quota (mine is 12 applications) and 2) whether yours is strong outside of the application requirements. But this is all hypothesizing, so I'm not quite sure. I went online and found docs for McGill's webpage, so I'm going off that lol

It's so creepy. My timestamp changed to Monday at 11:30AM. What's brutal is the department 100% knows who won already. I just wish I knew!!
-
Actually I just realized it says "Ineligible (First-class average)"
-
Unfortunately it does say "Ineligible" on my research portal from last year, not "not offered". But I also received my status update prior to April 1st last year. Perhaps that's what the difference is?
-
They didn’t! It said the generic ineligible message about not meeting the requirements. I think was due to not having a first class average. Which made sense as they didn’t count my grad school grades at the time, as I applied for SSHRC during my first semester of my program. Now though, I got that daunting email on Monday stating the results are in but “you won’t know for 3 days!!!!”
-
I mean if it makes us feel any better, its likely we made it past the department. When I applied last year, I was informed a few days shy of April 1st that I did not receive the award and my status on the research portal was immediately set to "ineligible". So I have a feeling no news is better than some news? It's extremely challenging not to think about it. I have a lecture tomorrow morning I have to attend at 9, so I'm praying I don't have to do some groupwork amidst possible tears (lol). But at the same time, we gave it our all so that's all we could have done.

Thanks! I have been reading up on the process to no avail. No new info, and feeling so helpless! I wish you all the best of luck!!

I’m literally dying to know my results ? I applied once for SSHRC and didn’t get it, this is my last chance as I graduate come October. Such an excruciating wait!!!
-
Is there not a page for CGSM applicants? I applied, but can't find any info on value of award if received towards the end of your degree (6 months left). Any info is helpful!!

Thank you so much!! I am really excited and quite nervous now. I just realised that, I will actually be doing this now. Lol! I really hope you get in off of the waiting list soon! Keep your head high, someone told me once that rejection is a huge part of academia. And to be honest, it is so true. If you don't get in this year, Im sure you can beef up your application for the next and you will get accepted. Don't give up, don't take it personally and keep at it! It will all pay off!!!

After much anticipation and years of hard work, I got into McGill’s Masters Program!!! The wait list moves!!! Good luck to all of those waiting, it is possible!!

I applied to McGill's QY MSW program last year, and felt exactly the same way. Much like you, I have a lot of experience. I have 7 years of work experience as a counselor, I facilitate groups on a monthly basis, and have worked in three different social service settings as an employee. I have a BA and a CEJEP diploma in social services. Plus, I supervise students to train them in the field of social work. On top of that, my grades were good too. I had been waiting to apply for McGill for 10 years and on the first try I was immediately rejected. I was completely crushed. However, this year I applied again and I was put onto their waiting list, and I made contacts in their department and started doing more alongside my full time job as a crisis counselor. I took more classes and boosted up my GPA, I got lots of feedback about the application before I submitted it, and sent out emails to people in the department. I think that revising a statement of interest always helps, and going directly to their department and asking them how to improve it for next year can go a long way. I did that, and now im on the waiting list. Despite how frustrating that is, I still find that its better than an outright refusal. It also depends on how competitive the program is, so don't take it personally either. For example my program of interest accepts 20 people every year out of hundreds of applicants. I really think that it's important to remember that your value or your capabilities are not validated by an acceptance to your program of choice. You are already awesome and doing your best. It really is the luck of the draw sometimes, and try not to let it get you down! I'm sending you good positive vibes!!

If you have already sent a letter of continued interest, and they didn’t respond, I would suggest just leaving it at that. Honestly if you get the job, you could always stop by the department afterwards if you get rejected or accepted just to show your interest. It’s such a tough waiting game, and trust me, the wait has definitely been killing me too! Just hang in there and trust that the work you have put in will be recognised, and you will get in one way or another. If not this year, then the next. positive vibes to you!! I hope you hear back soon!

I am honestly in the same position. I was waitlisted at my dream school, and it is my second year applying there. I find out next week if I am in. I have 0 clue what my rank is, and am uncertain as to how large the waitlist even is. All I know is that they accept 20 students a year. I think that there is a lot more to the application process than if someone works hard enough to acquire an acceptance. My credentials are really good for my program; but I have seen people get in with less credentials and slightly higher grades. Hang in there, I can relate to the feeling you have!

I was waitlisted March 5th. I am totally freaking out. I applied to this graduate program last year and was rejected. This is the second time applying, and now Ive been waitlisted. I am nervous and hopeful, as I truly cannot handle not being in school for another year. Im hoping the waitlist is small and I dont have a poor rank...when I called them last week to tell them I want to be on the waitlist I asked if I could know my rank, and they said they couldnt share...SOS this is brutal!! -
