@carlrogersfan98 Awesome, that's what I did too pretty much 3 lines for every section. I did keep the "top 3 responsibilities" section italicized though, because for some reason the form had just that section in italics.. not sure if that was right though ? wish they had more detailed instructions haha. best of luck to you -

That makes a lot of sense-- thank you for your useful advice! Did you bullet point anything, or just go to the next line and list the top responsibilities/accomplishments? *edit: carlrogersfan98, this is in reply to you! the quote function isn't working for me again :') -
Counselling Psychology Applicants 2022 CANADA

Has anyone looked at the McGill CV form yet? They have a separate one for Counselling , and it's my first time looking at a designated CV "form" to fill out and I'm struggling to write the "top 3 responsibilities and top 3 accomplishments relevant to application" bit.. any tips on how to condense this and not make it sound like a repetition of the SOP?! ? -

Thank you both so much for your detailed feedback! I really appreciate it. I am leaning more towards highlighting and focusing on my strengths, rather than unnecessarily drawing attention to my weaknesses.. it's been a while since I've been out of school, so it was nice to hear opinions from people more recently involved in academia ❤️ thank you so much *edit* I tried to use the "quote" function, but I couldn't get it to work for some reason... thank you PBbread and Vanessa!! -

Would any of you mention any withdrawals/weak grades in the first semester of undergrad? I have one W and a C- (both non-psych related) because I experienced the deaths of multiple close family members during my first semester of freshman year, but the rest of my academic history is pretty solid. I was considering mentioning it briefly in my SOP, but wasn't sure whether I should or not because of word count restrictions and the rest of the transcript speaking for itself on my improvement. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. TIA -

Hello, all! I am looking for a bit of advice. I am an international student looking to apply to Canadian M.Ed Educational Psychology programs with thesis components. I have already identified a few PIs with great research fit, and am preparing my applications for submission now. I have a Psychology B.A., average (3.6-3.7) GPA, but no research experience. Following graduation, I worked in the education sector for 3 years and had 1 year of volunteering (counselling/crisis line). Writing research proposals is a bit daunting, and I'm concerned about my lack of research experience. Considering that all of these programs are thesis based, is it even worth applying with my background? I understand that research based psychology programs are incredibly competitive, and I've heard from faculty this year that they have even more applicants than they did last cycle. Does anyone have any general advice on how to write very concise, but specific, research statements (100-200 words) for M.Ed programs? I would really appreciate any kind of input and/or feedback. Thank you for your time

Can someone help me with determining my eligibility for OGS? I still haven't received an answer from any of the programs I reached out to and am wondering if I can apply.. To be considered for an OGS/QEII-GSST, an applicant must be a Canadian citizen, a Permanent Resident, or a Protected Person [under subsection 95 (2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protections Act (Canada)] as of the OGS/QEII application deadline. If an OGS/QEII-GSST applicant is international student holding a valid Study Permit as of the OGS/QEII-GSST application deadline, they may be considered for one of eight (8) OGS awards that the MTCU has allowed Western to provide to International Students. I am an international student without a study permit -- I reside in a different country, and I will not have a permit by January/February.. so just to confirm, does this mean I cannot apply for any OGS at any program?- 2,510 replies

For anyone that applied to Guelph's Clinical program -- has anyone else had any issues with recommendations being lost or not processed? One of my professors said she got a double request for the recommendation, and she submitted the letter + supplement form for one of the requests. Then, she got a confirmation that they received it.. but the portal says it is not received and she is still receiving reminder emails to complete the recs. Due date was the 1st, and I inquired about it a week ago but I think they must be super busy because I haven't gotten a response yet. Not sure what more I can do at this point, would appreciate it if anyone had any thoughts on this!- 2,510 replies

Hi again guys How have you all managed to whittle down your SOIs..? Mine is insanely long and unfocused, and I am having a lot of difficulty trying to get it down to the bare bones and just say what needs to be said. Also, if I am applying for a clinical program at University A but also submit an application for, say, experimental psychology at the same school, would that be frowned upon/not taken in a good way? There are a couple of schools with faculty that make me want to apply for the clinical and nonclinical programs.. just wanted to know what you guys thought TIA- 2,510 replies

The 'Am I competitive' thread - READ ME BEFORE POSTING
Kresen replied to fenderpete's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Hi, everyone!! I'm so glad I found this thread. Please don't go easy on me and tell me everything I should/should not highlight in my apps! What are my weaknesses? How competitive am I? Thank you so much in advance!! Undergraduate institution: U.S. university, top 100, but attended a campus overseas in Europe for the entirety of my undergrad yearsUndergraduate GPA: 3.65 /3.79 psychology GPAUndergraduate Major: Psychology, Spanish (both Honors degrees)GRE Quantitative Score: 167GRE Verbal Score: 167 Schools applying to: Canadian universities: UBC, SFU, UWestern, etc. for Psychology M.A.Years Out of Undergrad (if applicable): 3Years of Work Experience: 3 Describe Relevant Work Experience: Teaching children ages 7-13 / an employee in R&D in a prominent company in my home countryStrength of SOP (be honest, describe the process, etc): Still in the process, but will be pretty strong once it is finished. I have a published article (albeit non-peer reviewed), have had experience as a TA (the only undergrad to do so), have given a TEDx talk, am multilingual, and have had varied experience living abroad/working in various professional environments. Will tie in my previous/current experiences to relevant research interests.Strength of LOR's (be honest, describe the process, etc): 2/3 professors have agreed-- both will be very strong, they are my former advisors and heads of their departments-- the remaining professor is yet to respond, but mentioned that he might want me to write my own letter ?Other: I am an international student. Unfortunately, I have no research experience in the field of psychology, which puts me at a huge disadvantage. My home country only gives lab research roles to MA/PhD holders. Very worried about my lack of competitiveness, as Canadian graduates seem to go through a very intensive and research heavy BA if they have an Honors degree.- 1,791 replies

Thank you so much!! I heard from people in Korea that Canadian schools were very competitive in terms of the GRE (avg. 165 V!!) so I was freaking out about that a bit because I thought I was on the lower side.. T_T- 2,510 replies

Hi everyone.. this is my first post. I just signed up today and I'm so happy to have found this thread I am an international student (not American) looking to apply (finally) to graduate clinical psych / psych programs for the Fall 2021 intake. I graduated from an American university 3 years ago in Honors Psychology + Spanish Literature.. I took time off (the three years) to return to my home country and to work and save up money to go back to school. I took the GRE once last December and got V 163 / Q 166 / AWA 5.0 and I am currently studying for the GRE to improve my scores hopefully I can raise my verbal score a bit and get a 5.5 on AWA. I'm really anxious about everything because I don't know anyone around me who is pursuing a degree in this field and I will be the first in my family to pursue graduate studies at all. I just started my school search today and I'm just really nervous about everything!! So relieved to read through the comments and realize that there are others like me with similar questions. I have NO IDEA what I'm doing!! Sorry for all of the "I, I, I" sentences!! I wish everyone the best of luck ^^- 2,510 replies
