  1. Wait until January then it gets even harder on you to answer these questions. Also, if you applied to the right places for you its when not if but just because you think they are right now doesn't mean its the right place.
  2. Every program is different. In my field I have noticed, you get into one you get into must of your schools. I wasted so much money visiting and app fees since I got into my first choice so I wish that I only applied to one. Its a personal decision that you must live with and I hope you all get into your top program
  3. You are right. Grad com. are all different and looking for different things. I found it best to just be myself, tell them about me, and why I deserved to be their choice and how we had similar interest.
  4. First semester is the worst. I felt like dropping out every other week. But after that it gets easier.also if you on ta and not ra your be fine taking the break off.
  5. She will need a work Vista and to get that she will need an employer to sponsor her.
  6. Being specific without being too specific is the key. First time I applied I was too specific, didn't get in. Second time I broadenmy material but still alittle specific and I got in with multiple offers. So make sure you stick to a theme but I caution not to be too specific.
  7. People need reassurance sometimes. It didn't come off as bragging it came off as I really want in and need to talk about it to someone. I know I drove my Sign other crazy a clipped years ago. Even after I got. In and accepted the offer I had doubts the offer was real until I started classes.
  8. I think weather does play a small factor. I had the choice a couple years ago. Warm vs cold. I moved to the cold because that is where the better choice was. Not to mention its only five years then I get even less say. I'll move wherever there's a job. Every climate has its pro and cons. North you have beautiful summers, south you have beautiful winters. Besides san Diego and Hawaii in the US your have one horrible season.
  9. I don't mean to scare people. When adding names to your paper you are saying you worked with them and trust them. Let's say 10 years from now they are caught fudging data. You are now looked down upon due to this association.
  10. This should be in the physics section. Also, research this site to find the answers. This question does come off as your being lazy.
  11. It is acceptable and if your school is a powerhouse in one of the three major sports its almost required
  12. Not to mention people stretch the truth here. An example is like saying you have a 4.0 when really you rounded from a 3.7. Another way is saying you got a 1210 on gre when the really for a 1160.
  13. Well grad school is a huge commitment and your heart needs to be in it. But for anthropology people the job market is nonexistent besides being a shovel bum making 8 dollars an hour with just a bachelors. Masters would allow a career in anthropology without a phd.
  14. Its been a couple years, I believe it had no form they had to use. They just typed out a letter and mailed it in if I remember correctly
  15. At least there's no competition here.
  16. When I applied there a couple years ago I had my recommenders mail it in. Also there online status will drive you crazy when midmarch it changes to decision has been made and a letter is in the mail
  17. When I applied to phd: 1. Waiting....had. to wait until Feb. But felt like forever 2. Decission...I still have doubts and what if I chose to go to one of the other places. 3. Applying 4. Preparing to apply
  18. And forgot to add. Many schools like mine claim you can get both here but in practice they never allow it
  19. I don't recommend that. Most schools take 2 years worth of course work not one year and most require a masters in anthropology to get into phd for anthropology.
  20. Ok Michigan is the beat at least to a lot of people and berkley top 10. Gre is fine but I would expand my list unless your parents are best friend with your would be advisor at both places
  21. Ghost- If they have rolling admissions any time, if not your have to wait till after deadlines
  22. I would keep it in the field
  23. Enjoy your time now. Come Feb your whole life will revolve around thinking and agonizing over this process. And this site will take over your life.
  24. This sounds like getting into undergrad advice. In my field languages doesn't matter except one and they know your be fluent before graduating. So do some research and get published and present at conferences would be my advice.
  25. A thesis does help because you can proof with your thesis that you are interested in a certain aspect and that your not just all talk to try and get in. I think proof of fit goes a long way
