OK thank you for the input. It just seems that things are so competitive that any blemish on ones academic record can see you dinged. Guess I will focus on other aspects of my application.

Hi there, probably the most annoying question possible coming your way. I was wondering what the collective mind thought of one "bad" grade on a MA transcript? In short, I took a really hard class outside of my focus and got a B+. Was a super interesting learning experience I just wish the grade reflected that. The rest of my grades are A's with a couple of A-. Overall my GPA should stand at about 3.9~ by the end of my program. So, will this kill a political science PhD application? I am of course thinking top 10/20

What specifically left you that impression of USC? You could have just made my decision much easier!

Anyone have any thoughts from the event?

Can I ask that people who attend put a quick write up or send me a PM with your thoughts? I can only attend the normal admitted students day unfortunately and I don't want to miss any information for the dean's merit scholars. I am deciding between Fletcher, GT, SIPA, SAIS, and USC.

Trying to decide between Fletcher, the GHD, and USC Price here. -
They are running the same event on 7-8 April. Can't make the merit event so will be attending the 2nd one.

I am in with a 50% Deans's Merit Scholarship. Was honestly hoping for a bit more than that as the cost is still a bit high for me (not to mention that I am an international student so most decent loans are out of the question). Will most probably see you at the Merit Scholars event on the 31st if I can get the time off work.

Hopes, Dreams, Guesses (2017 Gov. Affairs)

My only dream is to get a funding offer that does not result in financial punishment for the next decade+ -

I did mine through UCSD and it has been a pretty good experience.

Hey, sorry I missed this message for a few weeks. Yes, I am going to go for a graduate degree in 2017! Looking forward to a break from the field for a couple of years (I also got your PM, will reply to that today).

I don't usually weigh in on threads (long time lurker!) But I have to say that I do not agree with this statement at all and I am struggling to understand what your factual basis is. In fact this is certainly not my experience at all. Could you please clarify? -
I am in a similar situation to you and I get it. I also work for a similar organisation (and within the same region, hello!) and I completely understand the desire to break into a more "normal" routine. Like you I have tried for the past couple of years to break out of the region we are in and work on something a bit more longer term development and less humanitarian / emergency in other contexts and have found it extremely challenging. As such I am looking forward to taking 2 years out starting in 2017 to get some perspective on the past 5 years and work out a next move. Remember you will be in a great position while in school to do numerous consultancies should your schedule allow. Also there are the summers, where short term consultancy posts could seriously offset the cost of tuition (as I am sure you know!). Anyway, good luck. I know all too well the challenging situation in and I wish you luck as you attempt to find that much coveted piece of normality that many of us are scrambling to find. -B

Same here. I tried to negotiate USC with no luck. Very unfortunate as I was hopeful for full funding.
-
First MPP cohort.
-
Rejected also!
-
I am going to hear to either USC Price, Fletcher, or Georgetown. Will get myself to the admit days then decide. Yourself?
-
Same here, no funding. Will not be attending. Very surprised, since this is a new program I thought they would invest heavily in their first cohort.
