  1. Awwwwwww this is the truth. Even people I have classes with say this! Um.... there is a difference between programs with cohorts of 40+ (MA) and programs with cohorts of 5 (PhD) !!!! My chances are significantly smaller
  2. Yayyyyyyy!!!!!!! I've been meaning to make the drive over to Yale, but I keep putting it off. I applied to Yale, but not in Anthro. I was sorta nervous about going because I was afraid that I would fall in love with it. Tell us everything! I've heard really great things about the environment: students and faculty are overwhelmingly nice, beautiful campus, great restaurants and plenty to do! Sounds amazing... Let me know if it lives up to this.
  3. Agreed. It already sounds like you have a strong closing- the reason why your perspective is necessary in that field. Good luck!
  4. It's totally cute. Cozy up on the couch with a blanket and a warm cup of tea and enjoy!
  5. Super cheesy romantic comedy about a PhD student at Harvard? Yes, please. I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't fall back asleep and found it randomly on Netflix. Losing Control if you are wondering. It did make me smile. Awwww... and many pretty Harvard and Boston shots.
  6. Every time I get a new email at my school email address I'm all like this:   Then I see it's from Twitter and I'm like this: :( :(
  7. I think the safest best is to ask the admissions office. I've heard some schools just trunk the statement, others get annoyed, and others don't mind as long as it's not noticeable. My school has a strict word limit on coursework. People get papers kicked back all the time for going over the word limit- even one word. They have the philosophy that you have to learn how to succinctly talk about you subject matter and learn to follow directions. We don't get wiggle room. It's interesting to hear that many schools let you push 10-20% past word limits. It's also a lot more work for professors. Imagine if everyone pushed past just 100 words on a 1000 word limit assignment for a 50 person class, that's tantamount to having to read an extra 5 papers. Not. Fun.
  8. Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's so awesome. I love good news. Makes me wanna dance in my living room.
  9. For interviews or class? There is a huge difference if the program is research or professional. Business, policy, and law folks always seem to be business casual. Research programs are more relaxed, it seems. Also, if you have clinicals, practicum, or rotations, those usually have a standard dress. I dress the way I always dress. Jeans, boots, blouse. Comfortable, but neat.
  10. I think the 3000 applicants is actually for the entire school. Not just EDLD, if that makes you feel better. The gap just closed a bit... I know, I know. Not enough...lol
  11. No... My profile is basically my grad institution and research interests. However, I have colleagues that have their CV up and links to papers they have written or co-authored. That seems pretty common.
  12. I can't stop LOLing... wow... it's come to this. Sadly, we can all relate. Virtual hugs. OOOOO
  13. Was the acceptance on your UCSB application page?
  14. i have a pretty common name. so, I wonder if they google your name in conjunction with your current school, your UG, your hometown to try to get the real you?? all would yield varied results with multiple people with that name... another thing to worry about.
  15. I know the program I applied to doesn't.....
  16. Congrats to the person who received an interview at UCSB!
  17. Ahhhh... I applied to the criminology program there- January 25-ish they announced last year. I applied to a mix of Anthro and interdisciplinary programs.
  18. UC-Irvine... I ended up applying last minute and they apparently have a quick turnaround. I'm nervous... I applied to three UC's in addition to my list.
  19. YAYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!
  20. I've never been so happy to cut my vacation short and go back to school. I'm so nervous! I'll be happy when it's Feb... at least I hope so. hahahaha. I just want to know already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. Irvine announces pretty soon- two weeks!!! Kind of a shocker since their app is due on the 15th. Can they really have a wk turnaround time?
  22. Just got off the phone with Stanford Anthro. My application appeared incomplete and she assured me that they are just barely updating applications so many applicants will appear imcomplete. Sounds like theyve been getting a lot of calls about this. So, if you applied and still have an incomplete app, don't fret!
  23. I wish all my POIs were Twitter.
  24. WOW... I thought I was the only one that took it that far. You all are amazing. I'm sitting here laughing. It's finally funny (but only for a couple minutes...then I go back to the nervous fretting).
  25. LOLOLOLOOLOLOL me toooooooo!
