  3. I honestly don't know. I think it depends on the program.
  4. Thanks, Dust! I should also add that my GPA in sociology was 3.8 or so, and my major GPA was 3.7. It was the required math and science classes that gave me grief.
  5. When I correspond with someone I don't know, I tend to address them as Ms/Mr/Dr/etc unless told otherwise. When someone addresses me by my first name without any prior contact, it seems disrespectful because they think they can use my first name solely because I am a student or I'm younger than them. It also feels really personal, and I don't always like that -- but this is all just my personal preference.
  6. "Why are you so eager to check the mail?"
  7. This is small and nitpicky, but -- I really hate it when they address me by my first name when I haven't given them the permission to do so. This also bothers me in follow-up emails with POI. I'm not sure why it irks me so mcuh.
  8. I can't wait to try genuine poutine.

  11. I might be taking summer courses online to catch up with my program. I minored in sociology in college, and I'm going to grad school for sociology. There are a few classes I didn't take in undergrad that I might have to make up before attending graduate school in the fall.

  13. Sure. Undergrad GPA: 3.4 Undergrad Major/Minor: Anthropology/Sociology I did an undergrad thesis on an original topic and presented the findings at a major anthropology conference. I received a research grant for my research during undergrad. I was a teaching assistant twice. All in all, I don't think I was a fabulous candidate -- however, they received a research grant that fits almost exactly with the research I did during undergrad. I'm a great fit, and they know it.

  15. Oh, and would there possibly be a tuition waiver at UVic?
  16. Mer, does anyone know about funding for international students at UVic? I'm going for my M.A. in sociology. I was told I would have funding, but I don't know how much yet. The suspense is wreaking havoc on my nerves!

  19. I have, but mostly because I find it the easiest way to tell everybody without having tell them all individually... I guess I'm really lazy.

  21. Thanks! I'm going to try to visit there in the next couple of weeks to get a real feel for it.

  23. Would you say that Victoria is more of a small town or a city? I haven't been to Victoria since I was 12 or so, and I really just cannot remember the feel of the place.
