I'm applying to four schools: New Mexico State, University of Redlands, Midwestern - Glendale, & St. Augustine. My GPA is decent (3.69), but not confident in gaining an acceptance within my home state, hence the majority of my chosen schools being out-of-state. I also have terrible GRE scores so really hoping my extracurriculars make up for that. I've officially submitted all and am now playing the dreaded waiting game. I'm most nervous at the moment for an interview I have coming up at the Midwestern campus, if anybody has any tips that'd be amazing! I've read through posts regarding the topic but maybe someone has some additional tips. Good luck everybody, we got this! I saw your comments on the thread below this one, I have an interview tomorrow at Midwestern as well! I'm super excited and a little nervous. I've heard that it's not bad at all and to just be yourself We're going to do great!

Ive heard the same, and am hoping that’s the case lol. Goodluck!!
TW143 Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 (edited) Is there a reason you're not applying to university of Mississippi's graduate program even though you were in their undergrad program? I've been considering it but I don't really know much about the program itself and can't seem to find much info other than what's on the website. Anything helps! And good luck with applications! Thanks! Edited January 15, 2019 by TW143
slptobe! Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 Hi everyone! I know I'm super late to the game on this one, but the waiting is killing me already so here it goes at a distraction. - Where are you from? I'm from southern California, but also live in Colorado because I went to CU Boulder for undergrad. - Which programs are you applying to? I'm applying to the schools listed on my sign off, so no reason listing them again I guess. - What are your biggest concerns about applications? I have several large concerns about applications. The first one is that I do not feel I am competitive enough and I just want to get into one school, I have a lot of experience, but my gpa is set off because my first year at uni was a tough one to get used to. I also wish my gre scores were higher. My second concern is forgetting something and getting disqualified, I am extremely organized and did the best I could with all the apps, but it did happen! I accidentally sent transcripts to the wrong place for one school and didn't get any reminder emails until after the deadline, so I'm not being considered anymore My third biggest concern contains a lot of "what if's", if I do get into somewhere, and if I can afford it, I'm afraid it will be so difficult for me to attend. If it's not in the location I am hoping for (close to home), it might be too difficult. My father is very sick and my hope is that I can be there for both my parents being closer to home. Good luck to everyone! I believe in you, it only takes one. Toya 1
jjess313 Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 Hey everyone, I'm just curious if anyone who has previously gotten into schools in Michigan would be willing to share their GPA and GRE score that they got accepted with? Also when did you hear back from schools? Particularly interested in Grand Valley, Michigan State, Calvin, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, and Wayne. Thanks!
Procaffeination Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 Surprised nobody has responded to this, but they're actually my undergrad currently. Obviously that Quant looks low compared to the types of people they accept here. It's great that you have research experience since it is such a research-focused school. Also, having those big awards and honors should look great -- just making sure you emphasize them in your "experiences" portion of the application/resume. I'd be happy to talk to you more about the types of students that I see in the graduate cohorts here if you want to shoot me a message.
A-1 Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 Hi! I do not have any information on past applicants but I applied to Michigan State as well and I would like to know.
rosejoy Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 (edited) Where are you from? Orange County CA Which programs are you applying to? San Diego State University, San Francisco State University, San Jose State University, University of Washington, Chapman University What are your biggest concerns about applications? I'm really nervous that I won't get in anywhere! I was hoping I could get some feedback from people here about whether or not I have a chance of getting in. I am worried that some schools might be a reach since I didn't have CSD background in my undergrad. I am doing postbacc classes now. I got my BS in Cognitive Science minored in linguistics, (didn't have CSD at my school). 3.73 cumulative GPA during undergrad, 3.87 GPA last 90 units, 3.78 GPA postbacc (current). 165 Verbal 157 Quant 5.5 Writing. I have been volunteering/observing at a speech clinic since July. Relevant work experience (behavior therapist). I should have gotten good letters of ref (but how do you really know if they're good or not?) I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on my chances! I'm feeling pretty anxious rn haha. tulipz Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 Hi everybody! I was wondering if anyone here has applied (or is applying) to UMaine? I won't be applying until next year, and this is one of my possible choices. As a Canadian applicant, I wanted to apply to one or two US schools to increase my chances of being accepted. I've heard that UMaine has been known to accept quite a few Canadian applicants, and I know it has the option for an additional prereq semester, which is useful to me and my Linguistics undergrad degree, lol. Besides that, I haven't heard much about the program or seen anyone mentioning it on forums. Does anyone know the programs reputation/culture or have any opinions about the school and its SLP program? Thanks!! And good luck to everyone currently applying :-)
emilymstar Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 Hi everyone I'm super stressed waiting to hear from programs so here I am! I'm from Houston and I'm applying to UH (my undergrad), UT Dallas, UTHSC in San Antonio, UNT, and UTHSC in Knoxville. I think I have a pretty average concern that I'm not going to get in anywhere. My biggest applications weakness is probably my GRE score, and I don't have a whole lot of observation experience or anything. But I have been an RA and I've been working while I'm in school so I'm hoping that that will help! But also one of my professors didn't submit my LOR by two of my deadlines, so I'm hoping that the programs will still consider my application. Tennessee said I'll be fine but UNT was much more discouraging. I know UTD does rolling admissions so I'm hoping that I'll hear from them soon! Has anyone heard from them yet? They're definitely one of my top programs so I hope I get in!
Kandykane Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 Has anybody else been invited to interview with NYMC?
BioCook Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 Hi! I got invited for an interview and had it last week (1/11). They got back to me on a decision fairly quickly too! Let me know if you have any questions.
ave_slp Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 I know this is old and you may not see my message but I am currently applying to ULL & I wanted your opinion if you think I have a chance based off of my scores! I have a 3.81 GPA, 3.9 in speech path classes. My GRE score is Q: 151 V:154, but I'm worried about my writing score its my biggest concern its only 3.0.

BioCook Posted January 20, 2019 Posted January 20, 2019 Hi everyone! I need a complete distraction while I wait for decisions to roll around! I've heard back from one school so far, but that's it. The waiting game is BRUTAL! Luckily, I have this forum and r/slpgradschool to help me push through... I graduated from college in 2017, so it's been quite some time since I've taken classes. And I miss it! - Where are you from? Boston, MA - Which programs are you applying to? Boston University, Columbia University, Ithaca College, MGH IHP, NYMC, University of Minnesota, University of Pittsburgh, University of Vermont, University of Washington - What are your biggest concerns about applications? Definitely cost! I'm really hoping to get considered for some funding or scholarships. I'm otherwise pretty comfortable with my stats... I try not to get too bogged down from some posts on here! Best of luck to fellow applicants!!

It's not the cheapest program out there but there are some scholarships available. I think it's a pretty high quality program and I'm enjoying it (as much as I can be, considering it's grad school).

This can be for anyone applying for the Fall 2019 cycle! Maybe it's a bit early, but knowing the type of people who tend to go for this field, I feel like a lot of us have probably started preparing for applications already. ? In the spirit of copying the thread from last year's application round: - Where are you from? - Which programs are you applying to? - What are your biggest concerns about applications? I'm from Maine but I've been living abroad for the past two years, getting some work experience through English teaching. I'm applying to five schools: the University of New Hampshire, Bridgewater State University, North Carolina Central University, the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, and New Mexico State University. Perhaps it's a bit early to be starting applying, but I want to make sure I have everything together! I'm most nervous right now about my low quantitative score on the GRE, and how to make my statement of purpose stand out. I'm from Illinois and I plan on applying to SXU, Governors, Midwestern, and Lewis! My biggest concern right now is my GPA...it's a 3.5 which I know isn't a bad GPA but it's not a very competitive one either. I haven't taken the GRE just yet but I'm hoping I get at least a 290.
Kandykane Posted January 20, 2019 Posted January 20, 2019 How long did you have to wait for the email that you were accepted? Also what kinds of questions do they ask specifically? Any scenario based questions? Or questions about past classes?

Thanks! Well its a few reasons I am not applying. I loved the program in undergrad but I didn't meet the minimum requirements which was a 3.0 gpa. I wouldn't got accepted but they told me because of that it was no way around that rule. Then another reason is that the program is not diverse, because all the graduate students in recent years has been umm white. Asides from that I say go for it because the city is great and I love the faculty and everything. PM me if you have anymore questions about the school. I can get you in contact with some of the professors.
M_SLP14 Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 Hi! I figured I’d jump on this bandwagon. I’m from North Carolina and am in school in an undergraduate CSD program also in NC. I’m applying to Appalachian State, UNCG, and UNC Chapel Hill. My biggest concern is my GRE scores. My GPA is strong (3.95) but my GRE scores are right at the 300 mark with a 4 in writing. I know my GRE scores aren’t competitive and I’m worried it will weed me out. However, I have TONS of experience in working with children (10 years) and have worked throughout my whole college career so I hope this makes me stand out. I am also on our NSSLHA exec board and have been thoroughly involved with that. I am also worried about funding if I do end up getting into a program. I could only (barely) afford to apply to three schools so if I don’t get an assistantship or some sort of scholarship, I’m screwed. Anyone else have this concern?

Yeah, I've basically been wondering how anyone can afford it. ? Applying just to six schools was ridiculously expensive (especially at Chapel Hill - I'm almost wishing I didn't apply, what with that ridiculous supplemental application fee) and looking at the 2-year tuition, it's not completely outrageous but I just have no idea how I'll do it, apart from taking out about a million loans. I'm hoping to either get into my current top-choice program, which is about half the cost of all the others I'm applying to, or miraculously get some type of funding.

They do have a more pediatric focused program. I actually worked as a undergraduate clinician in the H.I.L.L program that they have and its with autistic children and it was the best 6 months of my life. All the graduate students have to spend a semester in the H.I.L.L program I think. Any other questions just PM me.
