Accepted to UofT!

Update on Acorn first!

Final GPA: 4.0, extensive research, psych major

Applied: UofT 2 YR MSW  (accepted on acorn)

Undergrad degree: Anthropology/Equity Studies double major.

Fourth year GPA: 4.0 

Experience: a mixture of research assistance, short-term contract work in community organizations, independent research, volunteer peer support experience, a few publications/public presentations, and completing M.A right now.

I applied to UofT last year for the first time and was waitlisted. I had almost no related paid work experience but this past summer I was able to get some. I know how stressful this all is, but it dissipates over time. My fingers are crossed for everyone. I felt so defeated last year but tried to remember there was still next year to apply and that I had the control to improve my application. The year passed by so quickly. It's not over.

Just saw my acceptance on ACORN this morning! I'm a first time applicant and I only applied to the 2 year program at UofT, so I'm both shocked and relieved.

GPA 4.0, BA from York in psych, extensive work (2+ years in a hospital/community mental health setting) and research experience.

I might have to defer my acceptance for a year though. I'll have to think about this more. Does anyone know what the deadline is to confirm/defer for UofT is?

Congrats to you and everyone accepted!!! I was also invited last night  I am not sure when the deadline is, but there is a payment due on April 19th. Has anyone recieved their official letter or know when this will be sent???

Hi, I also just saw on ACORN that I've been invited to the 2-Year MSW at UofT!! :) This was my first time applying and also the only social work program I applied to!

Education: I graduated from UofT last year, 4.0 GPA in my last year and a final cGPA of 3.95. I was in the Psychology Research Specialist program and did a ton of research (paid and unpaid) in social psychology, including a thesis project last year. I also was in Equity Studies and most of my 3rd and 4th year courses were within the realm of equity studies/critical social justice :)

I also have several years of experience volunteering with misc. equity-focused student groups and local orgs and grassroots community projects. e.g., volunteering with Planned Parenthood Toronto, as well as a nonprofit volunteer peer support line for 2SLGBTQ youth, and a food serve group started up by a bunch of my friends and local organizers... etc. etc.! I currently have no paid/formal work experience in the social service sector, but lots of paid exp. in research project/lab management in psychology.

Had to do stats and several research methods courses because of the Research Specialist program so I think that definitely helped!!

I'm so happy <3 Congratulations to everyone else who's been accepted!!
