Definitely just got rejected by WUSTL, and I know that getting into any one of my top three after that is going to be really hard. Maybe I should invest some time into finding a backup plan in case this all goes south.

I'm so sorry about the rejection. As @rbr542 has said, it's all subjective. Just think some day they will include your works in their reading list. That's my survival strategy whenever I got rejections or bad grades in schools. Haha.

Aww man! The best revenge is your paper, says the goddess Beyoncé. So I say you put this energy into your writing. Echoing other responses, send some stuff to be published.  And remember that you are worthy and good enough, a rejection doesn’t take that from you! The odds are stacked against everyone that applied really.
You’re going to find the school, program, job, next phase that’s for you and this feeling will fade. Keep your head up!

The right program will know if it’s the right fit for BOTH of you. This is a very subjective process – everyone else is spot on suggesting you keep writing and striving for publication. It’s just school.

Just a random post, Iowa acceptance and rejections have the best notes of any school. Some notes are hilarious, others painful, others exciting etc

hahaha I noticed that too!

Also, to all other WUSTL rejects - has your online application status changed to rejected? Mine still says ready for review... I know it's a long shot... but... could this mean waitlist? ughhh

Since there aren't any waitlisted posts on the results board, I'd say it's possible...good luck !

The earliest Iowa result for fiction was February 15th last year. Hopefully it's the same this year as well! One more week and the truth shall set us free.

I'm searching my inner peace garden for this week. I've waited this long already (as have we all), so why is the reality of waiting another one or two weeks feeling so impossible? Going into this process, I believed I would be devastated if I was rejected from all of the programs to which I applied. Now I'm not so sure. It is just school, after all.

It's been the same with me. I submitted all my apps in early December and yet this week's been the hardest. Now I kind of don't care tbh. Gave it my best possible shot, the results are not within my control.

I sort of hope all 5 of my schools alert me this upcoming week. I'd be stoked.

Another random post to pass the time: Does anyone here enjoy film?

Ha, very random, very vague :) what type of films are you talking about? Snuff? Rom Com? Animated porn films with narrative arcs? Which types of films do you enjoy? ?

???

Really I asked because I was rewatching the squid and the whale and thought it had fantastic writing. Also some of the main characters are writers.

However, personally, I watch all types of films. I must admit though, I've never seen animated porn with narrative arcs.

Hehe, wanted to give you a hard time, but check out some manga or anime ecchi (if you’re bold, check out some hentai — NSFW).

not sure what you have access to, but there’s a US tv show, Bull. This past week it aired an episode, S04E13, child of mine. It was absolutely the best piece of tv writing I’ve seen in years: sharp, timely, complex. Hits the intersection of race, class, and technology in a retelling of the biblical Judgement of Solomon in very fresh and surprising way. I was shocked at how good an episode it was. I’m really stanning the episode writer, Marissa Matteo. Ridiculously talented. Watch it and you’ll understand how amazing her accomplishment for a platform not known for originality.

I have access to that show so I'll definitely check it out. Thanks for the recommendation.

Sounds super cool, thanks for the rec!

I'm hoping to go see Jojo Rabbit today, if I actually manage to get rid of my migraine in time for the movie....

Hi I’ve come back. Life circumstances are wearing me down and the thought of waiting another year to reapply while dealing with the same issues makes me want to rip out all my hair strand by strand. I desperately need good news from anywhere at this point.

Sorry to hear about the life circumstances. I can relate. Be strong. There are 5 more opportunities. And even after that, you never know what life holds. I'm pretty sure some poetry candidates here wouldn't mind reading your work and giving feedback if that'd help in some way. If not, forget I mentioned it. No matter what, I and many others are cheering you on.

Curious about opinions on this. I did a lot of research on *almost* every program I applied to. However, I didn't thoroughly look into the New School before applying and now that I've done some digging, I have some concerns. I get that it's private, doesn't offer enough funding, and has way higher acceptance rates than anywhere else. My question is, what's the reputation of the actual substantive quality of the program? Anyone know?

All I can find online are people disgruntled with the price tag, and of course the New School's own website is hardly objective.
