It's officially the latest they've responded in at least 4 years. The nerves, they're wracked... Congrats to those who were chosen! Hi, again! I just called IIE about this today. They said they hadn't received anything yet, but they will give us the news as soon as they know. I know how you are feeling. I just want to know at this point, and start planning. ikjadoon Posted April 3, 2013 Share Posted April 3, 2013 Well if all goes according to plan, I'll be a Divemaster by the end of May and will be able to legally assist with trainings and stuff. It's such a wonderful way to explore our world. It's the closest we will ever be to exploring another planet. The states we could be placed in are all on the east coast, which appears to be where most of the diving is. I guess it would depend how far placement is from the ocean and particular dive sites. I will likely bring all of my stuff anyways. This place looks sick: http://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Perhentian_Islands. Well...I did want to be an astronaut when I was little. Congrats on the Divemaster; it looks like an awesome position! BlueLight: I wasn't joking about those SCUBA lessons, -- If anyone is curious, the email subject heading was "Fulbright Application Status (P)" and it was sent at about noon (updated the Google Doc).It has that extra (P) which I hadn't seen before...not sure if that means anything. -- Whatever your status is, I know things will work out! I applied for a scholarship in October and got rejected on the first stage. Other things will work out! I'm so glad you got it!! Yay! CrystalDee: For the group I want to research with, it would probably actually be better to learn Swedish. It's also the second official language of Finland, so that's one more reason. But honestly, everyone speaks English quite well so there's no real proficiency needed for any of them. It would still be good for me to learn it though, since it will probably be helpful in the future -- I'm working on it, but haven't been able to give it quite as much attention as I'd like since I've been kind of swamped this semester. I'm teaching a class and have to write my own exams, lecture notes, etc. On top of that I have 3 more talks to prepare this month (I just got done with another one a few hours ago), a challenging class, and my regular research... altogether I'm not left with too much time. Going there and holding a baby panda is at the top of my bucket list!!! OMG!! Such a great idea...I think holding a panda might just be all the therapy a person could ever need in this life. Pandas are such noble creatures. If I do end up going I will make sure to go to Chengdu and then check out the pandas. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board with further details of the award." - snail mail Good luck to everyone still waiting and I wish you all the very best in whatever comes next, regardless of what the email says. Although I wasn't a very active participant in this forum it was a really great source of information and just a good way to remind myself that I wasn't completely by myself in all of this. As that day is fast approaching, what are you guys planning on doing if you don't hear by this time next week? I'm considering accepting an offer and giving up the Fulbright even if I'm selected. The gigs I've been offered are pretty good, and even though it'd be tough to give up the grant, I'd be able to sleep at night knowing I gave someone else the opportunity . If I get the Fulbright I would just defer my admission for a year, which is no problem with the program. Program-wise (versus volume of number of participants per program), there still remains 10 out of 16 Google-Doc-Reported programs for Western Europe. We only have a record of Austria, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Netherlands, and UK reporting awards. We're still waiting on Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Italy, Malta, Norway, Spain, Switzerland, and Turkey!
