Also e-mailed Mabel and she told me I'm on the waitlist! Wooo this is a great day!

Anyone knows who much the waitlist at U of T clears up ? I don't know on average how many declines they get per year.

Thanks Kats, Its reassuring to know that many other great applicants were turned down as well.  I had a good cry this morning but am still not feeling great.

That being said, its another year to build on our applications right? I definitely will be trying to get involved with more volunteer opportunities this coming year.  That being said, has anyone heard anything about the speech and language sciences certificate program at Brock University? It is a one year course and you are awarded a graduate certificate at the end. Although it is too late to apply for this year, do you think this would be a good stepping stone?

I'm currently completing the program at Brock! If you have any questions please feel free to message me, I'd be happy to answer them :)

Hi everyone! I have been following this forum for the last few months and have finally decided to post as well. I was a first time applicant this year and I have been accepted to U of A, Western, and Dalhousie, waitlisted at Ottawa, and rejected from McGill. I'm also no expert on how the schools are making their decisions but I am open to sharing my stats for anyone who didn't get in :(  I'm also hesitant to post stats on the forum but please PM me if you want info.

On another note, any advice from anyone on how to pick between U of A and Western?  Those are the 2 schools I'm most torn between!

I got this response from U of T for anyone still waiting:

Please be informed all admission decisions will be sent via Canada Post today.

Hi everyone,

This is my second time applying at UBC and first time at applying at Toronto and Western. Unfortunately, I got rejected from all schools  :( . I honestly thought I could at least be waitlisted at UBC since it was my second time applying (I did my undergrad there as well) and my references were even UBC graduate professors of the masters program. I don't know what else I could have done since I thought my SOI was well written and had 400+ hours volunteering with children AND adults in both clinical and school settings. I also have a sGPA of 3.9. Any advice? Today has not been going so well  :(

Hey guys! I applied to Alberta and Dalhousie. By this point I know I have not been accepted but how would I know if I was waitlisted or not?

Posted

I emailed Mabel as well and she told me I was rejected, also I still haven't heard anything from Alberta so it looks like I'll be headed to Dal!

Congrats everyone on your acceptances today and good luck with the tough decision of choosing a school! It's been such a long process and I'm glad the waiting game is over!

Hey guys, I wanted to chime in and note that this is my third time applying (but not to the same schools) and I have yet to get an acceptance or waitlist as well. I was told last year to apply to American universities, and I did so- and was accepted to NYU and waitlisted at Dal (sidenote: I have a 3.7 sGPA, research experience, conference experience, participated in an MA seminar in my final year, and 30+ hours of SLP volunteer work, and taught ESL). Unfortunately, I couldn't go to NYU because no Canadian banks would agree to help me fund the degree (although I do understand the price is ridiculous). This year I was a bit more hopeful applying to Canadian schools, but it looks like I was mistaken.

So this is my final year applying- my brain is also very busy coming up with backup plans. But perhaps it's a good thing, perhaps we're meant to be amazing in other fields.

Stay positive. I'm trying to!

Sorry to hear, you and I are in the same boat! How did you hear from UBC? I have yet to have an answer, but have basically realized that it's probably a rejection as well.

 Hey VanTech,

I have been e-mailing Sue for the past few weeks and she said that "no final decisions have been made. It will be a couple of more weeks." But this morning, seeing that I did not get into Toronto and Western, I decided to e-mail her one last time. I asked her if applicants who haven't heard from her means that they were rejected, and she replied and said yes and that letter mails have been sent out. Is this your second time applying to UBC? Whats your plan b?

I am also on the wait list for uoft.. I've heard there are 30 ppl on that wait list. Anyone know how many are on the wait list for western?

I have 2 friends of mine wait listed at Ottawa...  Do someone knows how many people got in on the wait list last year ?

Hi, oh, that is sad. :(!! Rough day for sure. I am not sure of my Plan B, I am on a rollercoaster ride that's for sure. I've been working towards this for YEARS and I'm getting old and I'm not sure what to do next. You?!

I will see you there!! How did your visit of the campus go?

Hey! Quite a few people got in off the wait list last year...I don't know an exact number but definitely AT LEAST 5 but probably more (a lot of the people that got interviews were from Quebec and also applied to UQTR and Laval. Given that Quebec's tuition is cheaper, most of the people that got accepted to Ottawa and a Quebec university chose to stay in Quebec).

I'm so sorry to hear that ineg. It seems like you're so accomplished in numerous aspects too! Off the top of my head, I remember reading something either on this year or last year's thread about an applicant who thought they had great references, but found out one of them wrote a bad letter. Is that a possibility for you? In any case, I hope you apply again. Your application will only get stronger each time around, don't give up!

Yay!! I'm glad someone from here will be there with me.

My visit was fantastic. I loved my PI, my future research team, the city, the food (it's showing on my belly)...everything. I turned down a wonderful offer with more funding to go there. Although turning down that other offer has given me an ulcer just thinking about it, McGill is the place for me.

Congratulations to everyone who got accepted! I was not admitted.

Sorry to hear trejsi, don't give up.  I got in to U of T, it was my 4th year applying!

Thanks Kats,  as I am in the same boat (applied to McGill, Western & UBC...have not heard from UBC but I'm guessing since I haven't heard from now and others have been accepted/waitlisted, I'm just waiting for the rejection letter in the mail). It's a difficult process and this was my 2nd round of applying, and I haven't even gotten on a waitlist. It's gut wrenching, really.  If anyone can share their stats/what the did/etc that would be so appreciative, as I'm not sure which way to go now. I have direct work experience, great LOR, upgraded my GPA this past year through Athabasca, and still nothing. All morning I have been googling Plan B ideas but nothing is half as appealing, but I'm not sure if I can go through this process again!

Hi Kats, VanTech and all who are feeling discouraged

I applied to U of T for my 4th time, and I got in!!  I am thrilled.  I know how tough it is to not get the acceptance.  The main thing I did different was I quit work to take more courses to really boost my GPA (which seemed ODD because I am a CDA so, I work doing speech therapy).  I volunteered in a research lab to diversify my experience, and I took enough courses to pull my GPA from a 3.3 to a 3.7-3.8.  On this years application I included my work experience in volunteer experience (and stated is was paid) because I found previous times that there was no way to fully account for my 8+ years of experience.

Don't give up!!  Feel free to ask any more specific questions

Has anyone not heard a thing from ottawa? Im thinking this is really strange as people here have posted about getting in and some about being waitlisted too. I figured we would hear something today regardless of the decision so this is really bugging me now
