Does anyone think the loss of Russ Shafer Landau will impact people's decisions on whether to accept admissions offers to UW Madison, or take themselves off the waitlist? Is UW Madison's wait list ranked? How many people are on it? I imagine like 30..,.

I think it will affect people's decisions, especially those who want to study metaethics. Keep in mind it's possible their wait list is grouped by AOI so if your field is unrelated to ethics, and a bunch of ethics people start declining, it may not have an effect on your position on the waitlist.

Actually my AOI is ethics, so I hope I'll be in a good position!

Waitlists: Columbia, Wisconsin Madison, Cornell.

Anybody planning on turning down Columbia? Anybody think there's a shot I will get in off the waitlist? :-D I'd really like to be in New York.

I removed myself from the UW Madison waitlist last week.

Acceptances: UNC, UCLA, northwestern, UCSD, WUSTL, UC Riverside, Maryland, UCSB, Johns Hopkins, georgetown, Miami

I have declined all but the first three. (Some fairly recently, so this could mean someone on the waitlist being accepted next week). I will decline NU this week.

Also, a note about UCLA. I was told on the phone that they have an internal waitlist. So if you haven't heard from them yet, you may be on it. (And if you're on it, there's hope that I at least may decline UCLA. Right now it's between UCLA and UNC (and columbia, IF I get in off the waitlist.)

Rejections: harvard, yale, mit, CUNY, Rutgers, nyu, Berkeley, usc, Chicago, brown.

Hope this helps! Any info about Columbia would be much appreciated. :)

Wait, wait, wait... did you just say you turned Maryland down?

I am high on their wait-list. So I owe you a cake or five.

Awesome, congratulations! What's your AOI, only if you don't mind saying? UCSD is my top choice, and I'm waitlisted. Mine are ethics / history of philosophy.

Thanks!

Epistemology/ mind/ metaethics.

Good luck with ucsd, it's a great program (and wasn't easy to decline!).

Just got an e-mail from Mitchell Green telling me that I am on the waitlist at UConn. I wrote back asking for the size of the list and where I stand on it.

EDIT: The e-mail was solicited.

Congrats, good luck! Keep us posted if he responds, I'm also curious how many are on the list.

Does anyone know about Ohio State related to a wait list? I've been waiting ages to hear back from them (they were one of my top two choices when I sent out my applications), and can't tell whether they even have a wait list, or whether they let people know?

So far I've been admitted to BU and wait listed at Purdue (seems like a ton of people are wait listed there) and Texas A&M (will likely decline).

My wait for them is slightly agonizing. The application center still says "Pending." There is but one post on our results page for being on the waitlist for OSU, and that was a month ago. I emailed LD and she hasn't gotten back to me -- it's been a week.

Even so, they are my top choice. And LD is one of my major reasons for wanting to go there.

Any word you receive on this helps me too.

Same. I really want to work under LD on Berkeley and Malebranche.

Bingzactly.

My guess is that is why you applied to TAMU: for Stephen Daniel, the pres. of IBS.

From what I've seen on TGC philosophy forum, in addition to the one person who posted on results page, it appears they have already notified ppl who are on the WL. Not sure what goes on behind the scenes exactly, but I'm pretty pessimistic about my chances and hoping they'll send out their official rejections soon bc it's kinda annoying that they haven't.

Ohio State does have a waiting list. I received an email about a week ago that I was high on the waiting list. I was told they were looking to bring in no more than six students. I turned the offer down. That's all I know

Or I mean I removed myself from the waiting list. I can add also that the email came from Lisa Downing so you could probably send her an email for a response. Good luck!

Does anybody know *for sure* whether UW Madison's wait list is divided by AOI? There seems to be a lot of speculation, but little that anyone knows for sure.

Unless somebody has emailed the DGS and failed to mention it, I'm pretty sure it's all speculation.

All speculation. I did respond to the email from UW Madison to acknowledge receipt and ask if any more information was available, all she said was that she doesn't have any more information but should know my position on the wait list closer to April? Definitely not holding my breath.
