In my experience, this varies by school. I did the same thing you're talking about (community college to university and hopefully to grad school), so I can answer specific questions about what my classes were like, but I'd be hesitant to generalize those to other schools. BTW, I'm from Portland (though I didn't go to school there), so if you have questions about Portland, I can answer those too! I'm really glad I returned to school after all these years.

Yes! From what I understand, none of my schools have started seriously looking into files/contacting people. I applied in December for the first one and just finished my last one a few days ago. Excruciating torture this is, especially watching the invites come in for US schools.

York invite sighted! I didn't apply there, but it's nice to see the Canadian schools finally popping up in the results! Congrats on the Guelph invites. That campus is beautiful.

No interviews yet (not a peep), first application cycle. Two deadlines haven't passed yet. If history is any indication, two of my schools with December deadlines don't start contacting people until February (OISE, UOttawa). Of course, none of this has stopped me from obsessively checking the application portals and TGC.

OMG...I'm a TA in a class with 115 people, and I get copied on all of their assignments. Not only that, I have a sound notification on my phone when I get a new email. Needless to say, until I created a filter and finally got it to work a few hours ago, it's been driving me MAD.

Along these same lines, should I update for a 3rd author poster just accepted at APA in Denver 2016? One of the schools I'm applying to uses a ranking grid, and it says: 0.5 = one or more conference presentations (including regional conferences, hospital research days, provincial undergraduate thesis conference, excluding the honours thesis conference at UOttawa) 1.0 = one or more peer-reviewed conference presentations at scientific meeting(s) My first two posters fall in the first category. I need all the points I can get, but I wonder if this is worthy of update or just mentioning if I get an interview.

You can do either. I picked up sealed transcripts from my school and mailed them to Ottawa in the same package as everything else, and they were accepted.
