  1. @karita - yeah. I found out when I was about five, if you take your finger and put it in the crease of your eyes and push forward... it happens. I guess because I have big eyes. Not sure. But please don't try it! haha @autismadvocate - "regularly interrupt and call out people who use the r-word" YES! Thank you. I do this all the time and people call me the PC police. Don't care! It grinds my gears like no other. So unnecessary.
  2. @argslp - nice choice in sports teams !! & @jesstrom - 6 years?! omg wow thats lovely. Now if I can just find a man! My name is Mari. I'm 21 years old. From Queens, NY. I just graduated from The Ohio State University in December in Speech and Hearing Sciences with a minor in Human Development and Family Sciences. I'm on the Audiology track, but I like to chat it up with the SLP people on here, who are way more lively! I have a hearing loss which got me into this amazing field, and my goal is just to give back. So cliche but so true! Main interests include: Aural Rehab, FM systems, working with the elderly population. Outside interests include: Boxing (boxed for my school, and two years strong now), Exercising everyday with my grandparents (They're 75 & 81 and they can lift almost as much as I can!), eating good food, trying new types of Tequila, and binge watching Netflix. Fun fact: I can pop my eye ball out of my eye socket.
  3. Look for a suggested schedule for each semester so you know how many credits you are taking, then multiply that by the cost per credit. Then look on the Cost of Attendance section of your schools website to see a list of the fees, and add that to the above. Lastly, add any miscellaneous costs such as books, insurance, room & board etc. So, $828*(12 credits lets just say)= $9936 <-- Tuition Tuition + (Fees) + (Additional Costs) = COST OF ATTENDANCE for the semester.
  4. Congrats! I heard from them today as well. In the letter it did say that if you were awarded a scholarship, you would hear in the upcoming weeks. But all the schools are saying that and not a peep yet!!
  5. To add on what the above poster said, you can take the LIRR to the Adelphi, and there is a shuttle from there directly to the school.
  6. Why did I just get accepted to a school I never even applied to?! I don't even understand where they got my information lol

      Vandy ... I was just like 0___0

  7. Same with me with my schools. All they had to say is that awards would becoming out in the up coming weeks. My program is also usually unfunded so I think that's why theyre being tightlipped about it.
  8. The people at Rush University are such sweethearts. They're going above and beyond to answer any questions that I might have with calls and emails. The other schools should take note instead of leaving people in the dark!

  9. OSU is an AMAZING school. I am biased as I went to undergrad there. But there is always something to do, places to go and things to see (this coming from a person from NYC). If you like action and being around people, it's the place for you. Also, the city of Columbus is nice. It's an up and coming city with nice suburbs nearby if you want to have your family there. And if you want to have your family on campus, the apartments there are pretty cushy. Here's a little info graphic about the city : http://writehuman.com/columbus-ohio-infographic/
  10. Funny how grad school acceptances that come via snail mail don't come in big envelopes like they did in undergrad. Twice, I received acceptances in regular sized envelopes that I was afraid to open because I thought they were rejections!

  12. edit : I was going to say what @Lwill said but whoops I see what you are saying now
  13. Yes, they were wrong. Personally, I would confront them and let them know that it's not okay. By saying nothing, they think that they could do it to other people in the future. Who knows if you have to work with them or see them again. At least then they would know that you don't take any shit and that you can't just be walked over. But that's, just how I would go about it. And make sure you tell the professor in case it negatively affects your grade.
  14. It goes out in waves. They pick out their tops first, send them notifications... let a few of them reject the offer. Accept their medium in a second wave to fill up those spots, let a few reject the offer and so on and so on. I have been accepted to a school a week after the first wave was given their acceptance notice, so it does happen! I have no clue why they do it this way (perhaps, to torture us more?). As long as you don't get a rejection flat out, since they usually send those out first, you are somewhere in the running!
  15. Having better luck at acceptance from a grad school, than acceptance from a part-time job. Something is wrong with this picture.

  16. Yeah same here. I think what happens when you get accepted is that the program/department accepts you. But then you have to wait for the actual Graduate College to accept you formally to make it official.
  17. I can see this. Syracuse as a city is pretty drab. But, um, sorry for that. Finish out strong, get out, close that chapter of life, and be a successful Speech Language Pathologist.
  18. This little exchange was a gem : University Of South Dakota Audiology, Other (F14) Wait listed via E-mail on 28 Feb 2014 ♦ A 1 Mar 2014 Person 1: "Wait listed, and my stats are better than the person who was accepted and offered a partial tuition scholarship and LEND traineeship. Hmmm, very interesting." Person 2: "That person with the "worst stats" could have better LOR's, experiences and/or SOP than you did. Applications are more than just statis.. Don't get bitter, get better." Person 3: "Again to the bitter applicant wait-listed, your 3.0 on the AW writing isn't good enough to be considered for admission into some programs. And with that type of attitude I'm sure you LORs weren't that great either." well, damn!
  19. On the same day I got accepted to SDSU, I got news that my beloved Grandmother passes away. I dedicate that acceptance, and my will to excel to her. I owe her everything, and just want to make her proud, always.

Congratulations on your acceptance and I'm sorry for your loss! That's a beautiful sentiment and I know she is proud of you :).

That's sweet of you. Good luck! Congratulations on the admission!

  20. @ AuDCSL - knew you weren't going to be rejected like you thought! Your signature looks amazing with all those schools in the green category. Congratssss!!
  21. Ugh, found out that my hair is literally falling out because of the stress of this process. Thank God hair grows back. This grad school stuff is not for the weak hearted!
