  1. I am currently looking at Cal State Sacramento's MA in Studio Art, but I may even put applying for a MA off for years and get remarried first?

  2. I tell people to drive around Lane County, OR, and do not even drive through it. I graduated from the U of O in 2017 late summer. I had turned in something like 58 police complaints in living there for 2.5 years. PSU is awesome, and I'd rather have finished my degree there if I had enough funding, but only 1/3 of my degree is from PSU. Just don't live in the dorms, there is a drug dealer on each floor and people get killed outside of Montgomery Hall. Look up police reports online for the last 2 years.

    For Artists

I went to tour a certain school's studios and they were all joint. This means partitions, not real walls that go to the ceiling to separate the rooms. So the ink, and oil, and other very toxic chemicals get to mix and everyone gets to breath them all together. Do studios matter to you? The health of your lungs? Wouldn't you be concerned that you may develop cancer of the lungs at some point by or after graduation after all of that hard work? I'm going to ask for accommodations and work in a different bld. or I may not be able to attend if they accept me. It's my only reasonable choice given I moved states FOR MY HEALTH as I'm over 40 and I have arthritis issues.
  4. I spent 6 years getting my first BA, I skipped a year in the middle to get residency back in my old state so I could go to that U. I don't even think of how the schools would focus on this. They don't really know if you had office of accessability support and took your classes slower? For all they know you had a baby or your mom may have died. Anything could have slowed you down even just temporarily.
  5. I decided this week that going to school and teaching or being an asst. in a school at the same time will not work for me. So I must wait and apply to a school when the situation allows that and I live elsewhere since my favored school is in Las Vegas and I'm still in OR. I must get in state residence in another state or my second favorite state(CA or AZ)? But I had already started an ap. and was just about done with it. And I sent the request for a recommendation a second time, since I had asked 4 years ago after only 6 mos in undergrad. studies(post ba), and post-8 years as a stock illustrator/photographer. 1. She said no the first time because as she said, "I didn't have a large enough body of work."(this after sending her the portfolios to 5K images(graphic art illustrations) for sale on a stock site. She thought they were thumbnails when most were 16 16 in images SHOWN in large groups on ea. page as thumbnails you can click on. (No she is not a graphic arts instructor). 2. This time it's because she hasn't worked with me in an upper div. level as an instructor, and also because I don't have a cohesive/consistant body of work in clearly "one medium." Yes she ONLY WORKS IN ONE MEDIUM folks! I knew it was a 50-50 shot. But she's old school, very mentall limited I believe artistically. And she is like 2 years younger than I am? Oh well. It was worth a try. The programs I'd read for grad schools that are like her in thinking, "You must chose a track, only one track-one medium" like in undergrad programs, I ran from like the plague. They are NOT PROGRESSIVE in their thinking AT ALL! Not forward looking. I am damn proud of my mixed media works. I moved from simply a graphic designer mostly self-taught to a much more multi-focal person who approaches creativity from many potential angles to complete my works while in college again.
  6. For a grad art program? I'm having the hardest time figuring out if I can apply anywhere for scholarships/grants for artist attending grad MFA programs? All of the so called organized websites to join and search from, give me SCAM like info. or nothing at all. How about ADHD? I'm Norwegian, Danish? I was born in MN? Over 45?
  7. I have almost always felt on the outside, with very few acquaintances in college at all! I consider myself 40% extrovert, 60% introvert.
  8. I had a ton of issues trying to get dental work done. It's still not done. The weather is FREEZING in oregon today. I really think I'm going to watch tv online all evening and go to sleep as soon as I can. I looked up astrology online and the date and it says, "Winter Solstice" USA today printed, "https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/nation-now/2017/12/20/winter-solstice-worst-day-2017-astrologers/970249001/ Astrologist calls it Worst day of the year, 2017!
  9. Sigh, someone got an acceptance...........................ahhhhhhh sounds nice!
  10. Ug., kind of depressing. How would I look these things up exactly?
  11. I'm not sure how to get through. I want just 1 application to get successfully turned in. But finances do not exist. I'm simultaneously filing for SSI of all things. Maybe I cannot apply.
  12. I am an Artist. And I got through the second BA in late Aug. No PH. D., MFA is where I'm headed.
  13. Ok so 1 school in the state I wish to attend in states, "provide 3 Letters of Recommendation" and the other, "provide 3 professional letters of recommendation." Ok, I'm an artist, and this is about art. Am I really expected to have 3 professional letters from employers/art galleries, etc... for my art? I'm a stock artist, most of my art is sold self employed through websites. I cannot get professional web site mgr.s to give me recommendations. I really want to be accepted at this second school, but I'm uncertain they will accept professors letters of recommendations at all? I am asking 3 profs., and 1 art gallery Dir, and hoping to get the Art Gallery Dir., and 2 Profs. to agree to write them for me. (sigh).
  14. I am confused. If there is no upload location for the letter of intent that is required for a school, do I include/attach it to my curriculum vitae pdf? It's U of Nev.
  15. Is there a federal page that explains this code for a grad work study program, #2326? I don't see any kind of reference to it through the U of Nev school, but there is one at Cal St. Sac.
  16. I used to appreciate shining under pressure like that. But more often than not, it seems I have come off as a non-team player. And this is goofy. When I'm in a group I tend to carry the whole load. I had to delegate projects broken up and teach in my own class while I was an undergrad in an intro to sculputural art course. I wasn't the teacher...
  17. Can I really vent here. It seems there is too much to think about. I FINALLY got my second BA in late August. I've been a crazy mess trying to confirm where I really wish to apply for grad school. I want to move in advance but it's still in the potential works. And I'm temp. staying with my sister(who has only got a BA) and she keeps saying, "With all of your debt, what makes you think grad school is a good idea" AH, DUH, I will need to pay off some of that debt before I die and an Undergrad Art Degree or like it was with my Undergrad Psych degree before it, a hopeless proposition to make payments on the income I could make at that ed. level. *She cannot see my dreams, she is a downer at times. I want others to understand me. But I need to talk with other grad people(like the walmart pharmacy girl). I'm staying with a child in the "terrible 2s!" my sister's grandson. Do I need to say more?
  18. Ok, this is my work. https://www.pinterest.com/lauranybeck/

Is there a forum to discuss specific programs at specific schools? I was sure there was, but cannot find one? I want to know if anyone has applied to the Art dept. at University of Nevada, Las Vegas?
  20. I'm personally looking at multiple grad schools for illustration as a focus, but it's for digital only or mostly.
  21. Hi all, I have been on here before but it was a while back. I have bounced back and forth between two undergrad programs 100 miles apart and got most of the training in one school. 1. I have major sanity/safety/housing issues as I'm in that location now, and do not think I can stay here to complete 14 last credits. 2. The other school is the one I'd consider in the same state for an MFA in Studio Art if I were to choose to stay at all(I want to go to CAL State in a perfect world). *I'm in OR. Does anyone have experience with being just shy of a second BA for the new study subject and applying for grad schools? I literally am now out of undergrad aid as of this term. I may be able next fall to squeeze out two more courses that are very germane to my grad school goals/focus and the Cal State Modern/Contemporary Art History Req. Do grad schools look down on you or is it a significant limitation for me to almost have a second BA(so it's pretty nearly negligible). I mean as far as Cal State schools, I think it might be short 6-9 semester credits as compared to their requirements as an equivalency for and Art BA. It's beg. Ceramics and a couple of other odd ball non-studio courses if I remember right that their degree has as compared to my current hrs. standing in OR.
  22. I'm planning on moving to Sacramento and applying for Sac and Fresno, hoping I get into both or at least Sacramento. I heard the college isn't downtown Sacramento, and where I am it is now. So that would defiantly be a plus. But I'd like to learn more about the school area as well and possible decent low cost room rentals/apartments near by that are reasonably safe too.

I plan to apply likely to Fresno as well. So I'm glad to see this post.
  24. I am at PSU right now! I married someone who graduated from Murfreesbor's College, LOL too. Such a small world. Maybe someone is at Sacramento State right now reading this or Fresno, where I plan to apply in about 24 months.
  25. When writing my personal history and including my work experience, 1. I only realized how much my ADHD affected my ability to work until after I graduated college the first time, and 2., I jumped around from temp agency to temp many times over several years among other attempted jobs I hated and left rather quickly, and 3. ,I have 2 resumes on two topics? How would I even begin to explain this sort of work history? Just leave many jobs that lasted less than 6 months which I basically tried and gave up on, out? And focus on my resume with the most art related experience and down play my post degree and the work most relevant to that as it isn't what I'm apply for grad school for?
